I think they should remove the start and finish line, then you can turn up when you want and finish wherever you are to prevent any competitiveness or PB’s. In fact they should limit the speed you can run at and all run at the speed of the slowest, then everybody is a winner, yay! Utter madness from Park Run.
Thanks. I was a bit surprised to run that time after slowing down for the puddles and taking care not to slip up on the leaves. Gives me hope of going sub 21 when things dry out.
Good update Derek. Not happy with developments myself. Parkrun has found itself in an awkward situation, but it could have engaged in proper consultations with regular parkrunners before issuing what amounts to an Orwellian edict. Incidentally, three Southampton records established this year have been consigned to oblivion : Zak Mohamad's course record; Louise Small becoming the first woman to cross the line first and Alan Rushton smashing the VM80-84 record just last week.
I agree cant see them changing their mind, for two reasons, one they would then be forced to deal with the real issue around these changes, which they lack they lack the gumption for, and 2 they are just arrogant. @@derekrunsagain .
Cheers! There's a chap in the strava 'Hips Runners Club' that did a 2:45 marathon at Valencia. Probably a world record for someone with a double hip replacement, especially considering such problems don't usually come in isolation.
Brilliant Derek, I should have recorded conversations today as quite a few said that I broke the Internet posting about parkrun.... Will recommend you... plus I was in no shape to record after chasing a course pb 🏃♂️
Athletics Data (Power Of Ten) allows Uk athletes to submit performances so presumably this is a way a "masters" time for a parkrun event can be recorded? and updated?
I ran a 21:20 last week I'm 64 years old and came 9th overall 2nd in age cat but 1st overall by age grade if you are over 30 the age grading is very relevant to see how you are doing against your peers it just adds a bit of fun motivation.
@@derekrunsagain that's the thing not everyone is about how fast you go that's only for the hard-core strava crowd who seem to think they are entitled to commandeer the event..
Congratulations on a great run. I have been leaving polite comments on events’ Facebook posts with a link to the petition, but they are being deleted or hidden by parkrun HQ. So much for free speech. 😢
It's fantastic you can do this with a cyber-hip. Curious if the surgeon knows about your runs and what were his thoughts or recommendations. Thanks and great job!!!
Asked my surgeon about running before the operation. He replied, 'parkrun should be okay but I wouldn't try marathons.' However, if it wasn't for the MS I would be doing marathons. You only live once!
The full results are still available for each event. It's mostly the historical records that have been erased. A lot of people, me included, found those very interesting and motivational.
Just stop any volunteering. Run around a park if you want to run. Abolish finishing tokens as there is no point in recording results. Parkrun you got this wrong.
She's certainly spent a good few years questioning their categorisation policy but parkrun's decision was even worse than doing nothing, so I don't think we can lay the blame at her door.
Sharron Davies is quite right. Trans women have a physical advantage over biological women and parkrun should be asking people to register their sex at birth and not which gender they identify as. They took the cowardly way out and instead of making this simple change, fudged the issue by removing the records.

Agree completely. A lead jogger that nobody is allowed to overtake would help :-)
I ran a new Pb at Southampton today of 22 47. The massive puddle at the bottom of the first hill was back in full force though!
What a great time! Well done. Great video too

A great shame that those records have been binned. It would be nice to think of parkrun doing an about turn but I'm not holding my breath!
We'll see. I think there's a good chance of a re-think on this.

Amazing achievements with a hip replacement.

Cheers. My voice went a bit croaky too!
I identify as a tree and was holding the course record for my category for years !!

Sounds like a good idea.

That's an excellent time, well done!
Well done, excellent time on what looks like quite a tough course. I have to say, the guy at 5:25 looks great (and runs great) for 65!
Thanks! Yes, Brian did a fantastic time for his age category.

@@vikroy3777 We all enjoy parkrun in our own way.
So this will mean only the overall winners will be credited with any sort of victory? So only men from 20 to 45. Progress!
Makes a mockery of their so called inclusion policy.

Thanks! Would love to see the stats back but not that hopeful. They were a great motivational factor.
Congrats on a brilliant time!
Was well pleased with the time. Now hoping for it to get a bit drier so I can finally get that sub 21.

And to you.
i hate this new world we are living in. removing gender and age records is pure madness.
So how do you find out your times?

Parkrun definitely messed up on this one.

Thank people like bloody Sharon Davies…..she just couldn’t leave Parkrun alone

@@derekrunsagain Not solely to blame perhaps but she certainly hasn't helped matters.
