Thank you for a detailed review of this guitar! Thanks for taking the extra step of getting a 2nd sample to verify the issues, that was an awesome move on your part!!! A guitars neck is a make or break issue for me. I prefer a low action and I want a top quality neck!

The neck is my connection point to the guitar... It has to feel right to me. After that the sound of the guitar comes in...
If you get the feel and the sound... THATS A MATCH !

And I am just now seeing it...
Thank you so much for your kind words... When I see comments like this it really lets me know that all my efforts in doing these reviews amounts to something.
When I first started I used to get beat on a little bit due to the length of the videos... But I pushed on knowing that there was other people like me that wanted a more detailed review of these instruments.
Again thank you for commenting and letting me know you appreciate the work!

Ya.... Form what I have heard. Leo Jaymz in the pass has had fret leveling problems. I don't if they did or didn't... The two Tempests guitars in this review was my first look at this company and their products.
from what I have seen their fret work seems to be a miss... None of the models I have had a chance to go over have good fret leveling.
This model with good fret work could be a good seller for them along with the Monsoon Model. They could even ask 250.00 to 275.00 if they fret work was good. That would be a great guitar at a great price. They have a good feel to them... Both the Tempest and the Monsoon... But their QC is just all over the place.
I have a review of the Monsoon model as well...
and the Upgraded Tempest with the Burl Epoxy Top. Both reviews are detailed reviews of the products

With that backbow of course the frets will rock. Neck has to be straight to evaluate the frets.

    • @DominionFretWorks
      @DominionFretWorks  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Not Really.... You have to have a lot of Relief before it well show on a fret rocker... The fret rocker is only checking about 2 inches at a time up at the nut .... and maybe 3/4 of an inch at the 24 fret.... If you have 2mm of relief at the 10th fret... Spring measurement ... that would be .01mm @ .75 inches...Adv.. based on a 25.5 inch scale...
Fret rockers are great tools.... But understanding the total spring angle of the neck and understanding that .001mm across three fret can run out of true 4mm from the 1st fret to the 24 fret.... omce you understand that then you can start looking at the fret board with a straight edge. They both need to be within spec to be right.
You can have level frets .... True to themselves and still have a measurable relief in the neck. This just means the fret work was done and leveled with a neck that wasn't true.
In this case the fret work was just BAD... even after I have the neck at .1mm of relief the fret rocker was still showing a ton of problems.
      Thanks for joining in ! ! !
I hope this point of view opens up some new ways of thinking about your frets and the level work done in relation to the neck. There are many ways of looking at it...
      Thanks Again for commenting !

Everyone looks at things differently. Some maybe want to know weight... Others the Finish.. Or just how it plays.

It looks Great from a distance. If it does not feel good in the hand, play right and sound right, it is just a wall decoration. At $100, a person could justify 2 hours of bench time with a good luthier. Above $200, it should be a LOT closer to right without being repaired.

    • @DominionFretWorks
      @DominionFretWorks  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

This guitar needs a full Fret level and crown ...I full bridge tweaking ( play around until you find the right spring ) and the nut dressed and cleaned. To be a player....
But you will still have the BAD inlay work and the Bad 3 way switch.
I would say as bad as the frets were ..... 4 to 5 hours to do the frets right and another 2 hours for the bridge work and nut....
This guitar is a DON"T BUY..... poor construction. and poor workmanship everywhere.

    • @DominionFretWorks
      @DominionFretWorks  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

it is not a locking tremolo.... So big dive bombs are going to take the guitar out of tune. You can get NON-LOCKING systems to work well... Make sure the nut is cut right so the strings can move freely... and lube the nut.
But of the box it needs some tuning to get right just as most factory fresh guitars need.

@@DominionFretWorks Yes I did. Like you I really want to like these guitars because they are so beautiful, however they are too much for a guy like me to deal with. If I’m going to upgrade with tuners, pots, fret work etc I’ll just get a better quality guitar. I’m hoping that they will follow other brands like Firefly and Harley Benton and get better quality control. I also do lots of bass fishing. Many fantastic looking fishing lures catch more fisherman than they do fish.

The Volgoa TN2 and the Volgoa VTL-2 one with the HPL finger board...
and I have have good luck with both the Volgoa headless models... If you can find the Grote version of the Volgoa headless are the best. The Grote has the Rosewood finger board with the better pickups.. Like the higher grade Volgoa with the HLP finger board.

would you buy a used car online without first checking it out & having it shipped to your house?

Now days ..... AND I HATE TO SAY THIS... The brick and mortar stores are slowly going away......I love going into a store and looking and checking things out.. Talking to the people and just hanging out...I still support my Local Music Store.. Just picked up a Yamaha Pacifica... NOT CHEAP AT ALL.... but ... I would have never done an on-line buy for this guitar... My better half went down and with their help picked this guitar for me... I LOVE IT ! ! ! !
They know me ... So, they were able to help the better half ...pick something I would like. Best X-mass present ever !
I picked up 3 guitars from them this year and 2 cases... Strings... and pedals ...
Today the On-Line ordering has just become a thing.... Some of the shop dont have a store front so it keeps there cost down... but you can't go over you pick.. you can try it... I get it...
I have picked up guitars from Sweetwater 1 was an on-line order and 1 was an in-store order... The in-store order was changed after I played what I thought I wanted...... I didn't like it... So, they helped try other guitars until I found something I liked...
I hope people start to see the this... Things change... I still love my rack units.... but no one likes or uses them much anymore.. Shame as they are still better than the new stuff.@@Mr.PhatsVarietyVibesShow

@@DominionFretWorks hi, I was thinking the same thing ,& planning to buy a used Yamaha Pacifica in that 330 buck range, or a new one for the same range price at my local shop; I own an acoustic Yamaha, & a Fender Newporter acoustic ,but no electric. you know what the shocking thing about all this? I bought a brand new Hard top Yamaha 20 years ago of which I still have, for like 90 bucks.. the store just wanted to sell them to make room with tax total paid 100 bucks the shocking part is that it's held up no cracks in the top, & the fret work has little to no issues & were polished already i used that fret rocker tool you used there's hardly any fret buzz at all , while my Newporter I bought 3 years ago has some minor issues... but getting back to the Yamaha it can't compete with their Red Label or higher end Yamaha's but it has stood the test of time.
I think their entry level Yamaha Pacifica would be far better for the buck than any cheap affordable guitars such as the Leo in my opinion with less risk of getting a dud.
      I personally wouldn't buy a Leo..
      you done a good review..
For anyone in my opinion thinking they can save money, but for a little more money they can get a good built Yamaha & forget the Leo.
you done a good video.. My opinion the off brands aren't worth it..

I hung out till the end and must say i like your honesty! I think every company has a bad apple or two or three, but then again at the price point of these particular instruments, eh what's to be expected? Of course guitars that run thousands of dollars can and do have issues as well. Before stumbling on to this video i was eyeing this exact guitar out. I still would and just may buy this guitar as a knock around since the price is right (I've spent more on worse) and it does look and sound awesome.

That's what my channel is about .... YOU MAKE THE CALL....
My job is to point out what I see...
I will say I like the way this guitar sounds... and it looks great !!! but again there are just to many problems with the construction. The inlays would just drive me NUTS !!!!!! LOL..... Everything else I could deal with and address....
I may order one more..... I want to.... I hate doing reviews that I'm on the fence about... I understand its a 230.00 dollar guitar... But is it a good 230.00 dollars guitar... What else is there at that price point.
When picking a guitar is better to have a good base.... Solid body and a solid neck... Pickups can be changed easily... If the neck is not right... and the fit and finish is not right... It will always be just an OK guitar.
Start with good bones as they say...
Check out my Firefly Guitar review on the FFST...
Again ... LOL I ordered two of these guitars ... The second on is up for review in the next two weeks or so.
The fit and finish is really good... and the fret work is also great... On both guitars... I will say the pickups are just to HOT ... To much bite the can get muddy at times. Another Honest review on a great budget guitar... it is a strat... so the volume knob is a thing to think about. But all in all right now the Firefly FFST model I reviewed is the best 200.00 dollar guitar I have reviewed. The do make other FFST's so be careful ... there not all the same.

Firstly, I appreciate the super detailed reviews. I have the older version of this guitar (neon green - it was on sale). It is very similar in fit and finish except, the back covers appear to be better on mine. No gaps or protrusions. The finger board is not rolled off unfortunately. Frets are more level, but snaking like yours. The screws on the bridge were sharp and sticking up, but I screwed them down and it didn't affect the intonation or action in any meaningful way, so that was an easy fix.
The Wilkinson bridge goes out of tune after each use... BUT... I discovered a workaround. Apparently the saddles misalign after a bend. Strangely, if I place the side of my hand on the tip of the trem bar, bend a little and let the bar pop off my hand, the saddles snap back in position and it instantly goes back in tune. I hope I explained that in a way that makes sense.
The pickups on mine are a bit hotter, so it's a bit noisy for my less than meticulous playing style.
Thanks again for the great reviews.

Everyone wants to know something ... I never know what that maybe. Thats why I try to cover everything... And I don't cover every single thing.. The video would be 3 hrs long for a FULL TEAR DOWN...
So I do as much as I can in 1 hr to 1 hr and 30 mins.
My view on this guitar is NO .... Don't buy..
The workmanship on the inlay's makes this a no go for me...
Even if you fix everything you still have a neck with BAD INLAY WORK... That would just bug the tar out of me...
For someone else .... Maybe they will be OK with the inlay work ... and get an Active guitar with a little work that sounds good and looks good from 10ft away.
My job is just to tell you what I find.
I love the way this guitar sounds.... and believe it or not.... even with the HORABLE fret work on this guitar it still played well....

I'm not sure where they are made.... Cort makes many different guitars for many guitar companies... Some are good some are not good. The factory doesn't matter. If you pay the factory to make a good guitar, they will make a good guitar ... If you pay the factory to make a guitar to a price point.... well they make to that price point.
If you have a price point.... the more you add to the specs... the lower the overall QC will be.
You can make that guitar with everything they are wanting and spec-ing for that price point...something has to give...
Gibson tells the China factory to build their Epiphone to this level and spec... It has nothing to do with that factory not being able to build a better guitar... They are paid to build it as it is ..... @@JoeHasGas

@@DominionFretWorks I am the after-sales person in charge of Leo Jaymz. Amazon has been shipping the wrong items several times recently, and I have asked Amazon to investigate the matter. We welcome all buyers to provide fair, objective and professional suggestions and comments about our products, and we will also evaluate the reasonableness of these suggestions and improve the products. If you are not satisfied with our product, you can apply for return or exchange after receiving the guitar, or you can leave any comments you want to say. But you should not record a video on a guitar and then return the guitar. If all buyers follow this shopping method: 1. Place an order to buy 2. Record a video 3. Return the guitar, it will seriously affect the shopping experience of other consumers. Of course, we think this may not be your original intention, and we believe you are a true gentleman.

You are right about returning a guitar that functions as it should. If said person orders a guitar just for a review and then returns it.
The Guitars here are reviewed and sold to cover costs on my end. I still have the first Leo Jaymz here in the shop waiting for repairs. Leo Jaymz cannot expect US " the reviewers " To eat the cost of a product that has factory flaws as these guitars have. I'm not the only one that has received this product in this condition.
My only concern after hearing the above is this.... Will these guitars be inspected by an Amazon employee that knows nothing about the product .... Marked OK and put back into inventory .... To be sold again to the next Amazon buyer? There is a side of me that is saying that is true...
These guitars are factory 2nd's at best and should be sold as 2nd's
As far as Amazon .... Amazon ships .... HOLY COW ... they ship and receive millions of products per day... It blows my mind how they do what they do and track things as they do.
On your end you should be concerned about the product... Not Amazon shipping me the wrong guitar.. Amazon will stand behind their mistake. I have never had amazon say NO you can't return... If there is a problem with the product you received.
The only thing I know .... Are the two products that I received. It's up Leo Jaymz as a company to make a decision on what to do with the product.
Again, you are welcome to send another product to me....

@@DominionFretWorksAmazon doesn’t inspect product it isn’t their charter, they are a distributor not an OEM and the second they have no legal right to open new product, it is a liability.

No.... I don't think Amazon is doing any inspection when they receive the product from there Vendor.
But if the wrong product is sent out to a customer and it is returned... I'm sure someone there has to review the product and inspect it before it can be resold...
This would only be the case if the wrong product was sent the first time.
I'm sure if the customer returns due to a problem with the product it is sent back to the vendor... Or I would hope.,@@bluwng

I have the 1st Tempest, the price increases would be ok if they fixed and added stuff. Looks like wavy frets, high frets are still an issue. Mine took so much work. I found out the neck was cut wrong. Short nut,bad neck pickup etc. So at 250.00 shipped sure it's 'cheap' but I can't buy this. The purple was gonna be the one. S by solar is my next 'cheap' guitar I'm looking at

Ya ..SOLAR, I heard they were doing a budget level guitar.
So, another Tempest with bad everything ....THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT !

@@DominionFretWorks it sucks ,I love active pickups. It's hard to find a guitar with them stock under 600 bucks. I even did a 18 volt mod on the 1st tempest. It sounds great but like you said fit and finish is bad. The saying oh it's cheap so u gotta 'deal' with the issues. That's B's to me. How do you know 2-300 bucks is not a lot to me? On to the solar it's 279 shipped for the black/white strat. I got the black one and a string dampener added. 286.40 to my door ,I'm tired of sanding fret ends so I just wanna see more review of the S guitars. The one pic of the fret board u can see the edges are rolled a bit,but 12th-24 fret the ends look sharp to me. I've done enough 'cheap' guitars to know when the frets look sharp .

Don't know Boss? it looks like a Ibanez GRGR221PA Gio. And the, "Ibanez" is like $40.00. more. I think I'd pop for the Ibanez ,, Just Say'n.

I would have to agree with you...
Leo Jaymz has gotten better . . . As far as the guitars I have reviewed.. But they seem to be HIT AND MISS . . .
Ibanez products are good... The product consistency is also good.
The Leo Jaymz need some work to get the guitar "RIGHT". Even if you have to do a little work on the Ibanez.... It will always be easier to sell as it is a name band people trust.
