it was night and day difference once i started adderal (mix of dextroamphetamine salts) after finally being diagnosed with adhd in my mid 30’s. i expected a sudden energy rush, but instead, I calmed down, became more relaxed, became way less impulsive, could focus on prioritizing one task at a time due to hyperfocus, and my thoughts finally went from a mile a minute to a normal pace. It costs me around $35 per month, but is worth it. keep in mind, no two people will have the same results with any given problem or its many solutions nor side effects that result, but i wish everyone luck.
31 years old and I've recently been diagnosed with ADHD, 20 mgs of Ritalin, which seems to be doing nothing for my "befuzzled" thoughts, although it does help with anxiety a bit. I really want to try Dexaphentamine instead because I keep hearing it's better for ADD-ADHD adults. Thanks for sharing your experience and the head's up about symptoms =)
My experience was that immediate release tablets (5 mg) of dexamphetamine last several hours longer than immediate-release Ritalin tablets (10 mg methylphenidate). IMO, Dexamphetamine also has a more potent spectrum of effect. My dose of dexamphetamine was 10 mg on rising at 6:00 am and 5 mg or 10 mg before lunch (with 3-days drug free each week). Here in Australia, methylphenidate products are available as immediate release, extended-release (Concerta) and long-release (Ritalin LA). There is no long-release preparation of dexamphetamine. I liked this as it markedly reduced the risk of insomnia. I guess you've tried dexamphetamine by now--how did it go for you?
Its weird because ive heard from other people that when they start meds they notice a really big difference. Im taking dex (15 mg a day) but I don't notice that big of a difference. I feel like I'm generally more focussed and less chaotic and more aware of when I'm being hyper (but that might also just be because of my diagnosis) also I'm more tired in the evening, but the changes are not that different that I can really point out specific things . For me I haven't really noticed any side symptoms or sadness (I do feel more upset for a few days when I go off them, for example if I cant get my new prescription in time). But overall the fact that I don't notice that much difference makes me worried that its not working or what if I'm misdiagnosed? (imposter syndrome at it again) which is also why I'm nervous to bring it up to my psych ("what if I don't have add but I'm actually just lazy its my own fault yadayada")
Lol, i somehow missed the 15mg A DAY part. But have you felt it get less effective overtime? For me it sorta felt like it, but also the appetite issues also lessened.
@@bigboyboris150 Drug holidays of 3 days per week, on your least demanding days, help to maintain optimum effectiveness of this type of medication. BTW, is being on 15 mg daily an issue? What dosage did you find worked best for you?
Which medication did you take and did you experience any mood swings, GI issues, headaches, nausea vomiting spells, or any psychosis or voices in your head?
After taking dexamphetamine for about a year in 2016, can say that for me at least, it was definitely not a sustainable medication. The effects on my sleep, mood and appetite were definitely not worth the improvement to my concentration or motivation.
This is sad to hear, I was going to start taking the med, but the side effects seems like it is not worth it.😢 Was really hoping that it would cure me.
I found personally that it actually diminished my ability to concentrate and focus on the same thing for anything longer than a very short duration of time, which is contrary to what the medication is supposed to do. I agree in terms of eating and sleeping, as I lost a considerable amount of weight, was staying up to 3 am practically every night, mood was dreadful when the effects had worn off. Despite this, I stayed on them for quite some time, but think this is only so because of the euphoria that comes with taking them. They’re extremely addictive and by far the most debilitating meds I’ve ever been on to treat ADHD.
I'm 28 just got prescribed it two weeks ago. Aspen dexamfetamine sulfate 5mg. Its what they give us in Australia. They want me to take 6 a day on day 20. I feel weird. The come down isnt good. But least i can sit still. I often offended people by saying inappropriate things and just walking out mid conversation so they shun me and I couldn't sit still or finish anything before. Thank you i wanted to see what other people like me are like on it. Because its too early for me to tell much. My moods everywhere but i can least focus more.
