My step father was an umpire for a very long time and he used to say that most of the times he ever threw someone out of a game was because they kept running their mouths or making smart-ass comments after he had warned them. In his nearly 35 year career of umpiring he was awarded an award more times than any other umpire in our area. It was an award given by the local and larger area teams to the most consistent and fair umpire. There were guys that he threw out of games who would vote for him because when they had calmed down they would admit that they brought it on themselves. In my opinion the MLB, just like the NBA, NFL, NHL, have created many of their own problems and refuse to look at fixing them. Most players are giant cry babies and their coaches are just cry babies in charge.
So you're saying that umpires are saints that never make bad calls, it's just that the players and coaches are cry babies...because, you know, your stepdad was an umpire, and he was a great guy...good to know that Angel Hernandez is really an extraordinary umpire, and it's just players being crybabies because they don't agree with his brilliant umpiring...🙄

Baseball is killing itself and while most umpires are not at fault, a few are, but 90% of baseball's death throws are self inflicted. Cry babies.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….umps have to much power to throw out players. They can do whatever they want but as soon as a player responds they throw them out!!
At 2:32 Martin the catcher shouted the words "I did not say that!!" But whatever"THAT" was that was not said he should have said it to the ump because that pitch was definitely a strike.
Every one of these umps should be suspended at a minimum, many of them fired. Umps need to be held to a higher standard. If they start a physical altercation with a player, that should be end of career on the spot.
I think in the last clip Lester was pissed at himself, not the ump. It is frustrating as a pitcher when you have those games where you just can't throw accurately.
The problem with this song is all the energy that both of them spend talking to each other to prove how dumb the other one still is, which undermines the argument that they don’t care about each other and proves that they do care because they spend time communicating with each other to prove a point

@@mlbashanti8885 First, who appointed you the arbiter of who is a fan? Second, your argument is stupid since almost no one goes to a game to watch the umpires. Technology affects sports all the time, whether "real fans" like you like it or not. Tennis adopted electronic lines, and it improved the sport. Just about all sports (including baseball) have now adopted instant replay, and most people feel it has improved the sports. Frankly, a "real fan" feels the outcome of a game should be decided by which team performs better, and not which team got lucky due to an umpire's mistakes.

The umpires act like little babies that can't handle it they need to get out of the game. How can they yell and scream at the players and the coaches and get away with it.
Umps have waaay too much power in a game. Only sport where you can get thrown out just for disagreeing with a call. You don’t even necessarily have to say anything. Even giving the side eye or your body language can get you thrown out. Unreal that has gone unchanged for all these decades.
@@DrakeHunter324 Umps already make the game needlessly longer by taking everything personally and stopping the game to yell at people for noticing their bullshit. With the tech we have these days, it's easier than ever to see and analyze bad calls. The fact that the MLB does nothing to put a stop to it says nothing good about them. People complain about games being too long, but whats the point in watching a game of any length if umpires are going to blow calls and eject anybody that calls them out? @@riverdog1643 it is and it doesn't make it okay to do that because a ump made a bad decision now yes it is annoying as HELL but and it feels weird to say this but at the end of day it's just a game
Yeah but you can see there were two borderline calls before that pitch that look like they were strikes but were counted as balls. Pitcher probably wasn't complaining about that specific pitch but the ump's general calls that day.
Umpires are some of the biggest divas. Like literally nobody comes to the game to see the Umpire. Fans pay money to see their favorite players. For an Umpire to get in his feelings and eject a player because he isn't happy with your terrible strike zone is unreal. I am all for electronic Umpires
Try NHL refs. They average one fight a game that they have to break up. Some games they can have a line brawl go on for several minutes. Just last week at the U18 World Cup, a ref took a accidental skate to the arm, needing dozens of stitches to close up.
Yep. It happens. If you throw something on the field or cross the railing onto the field, you're getting tossed quickly. And I've seen some cases where fans got tossed because they had a little too much to drink and got out of hand. I remember one Braves game where an ump called timeout and tossed some drunk dude for screaming racial slurs and f-bombs in front of a bunch of kids.
I was a season ticket holder in a AA franchise market. Had four seats 8 rows behind home plate for years. On 25 cent beer night I got kicked out of a ball game by an Umpire. Every ball in the dirt, obvious balls, I would call strike at the top of my voice. This guy had a strike zone the size of an elephant's ass. In his defense, I was warned twice to knock it off. Come on Ump ..... it's 25 cent beer night!
Honestly fans are getting way too comfortable thinking they can do whatever they want, more should be ejected and some that really cross the line should be held responsible for their actions and actually brought up on charges.. fake tough guys when they're hidden in a crowd of thousands but wouldn't say or do anything 1 on 1 with an athlete.. they get the malice in the palace treatment
Actually, it is against the rules. An Umpire can only eject a fan if he comes on to the field or interferes with the players on the field or the game. He had no right to do that and security and Police should have known that.
Umm, by an ump?? Nahh..the ump's authority extends to the field of play ONLY.. unless it's interference with what's on the field, the ump can only REQUEST a fan be tossed..if I paid big money and some jerkoff ump can't handle a little criticism, I be damned if I am leaving..screw him..they might get the cops and physically remove me, but there is nothing that gives him any authority
Why argue and give yourself an ulcer? Just don't attend any games in which you pay a ransom amount to attend and see crap. Go to a local little league game and enjoy!
When an umpire shows immediate aggravation or “temper”, THEY should be immediately thrown out of the game. They’ve reached the point of irrational fair decision making.
All sports have at least one official with ultimate authority over the contest. Difference is most other sports the officials are far more accountable for their actions. I ref soccer, I could never behave like this and keep my job.
I've heard umps threaten players.. the usual "I'm gonna kick your ass" and as seen in this video, they get in your face and poke you in the chest and shit. And nothing is ever done to them for this behavior. But if a player loses his cool and pokes back or threatens an ump, they get suspended several games if not the whole damn season. Something doesn't quite add up. Baseball needs an overhaul regarding the umps and they're qualified immunity..
I'd understand if the fan had thrown something, or had done some other disruptive act, but outside of a little heckling, it didn't seem like he was doing anything wrong. It seems like the ump was just extra butt-hurt that day.
Because, in any sport. Or, sporting venue, no less. If you disrupt the the play or game in motion. It’s cause for ejection or banishment. It’s in the fine print. Any time you attend an event.
No other sport allows its officials to start an argument and then eject the person he started the argument with. Baseball has an umpire issue that they created themselves.

Yep. Also, if an Ump chest bumps a catcher trying to protect his pitcher, that catcher has every right to retaliate and put that ump on his ass
It's not fair game because he's literally the one in charge. Oh my word what is this cultural generation coming to. Take me to Asia. Bunch of whiners. A person who doesn't know how to show honor to the one in charge (even when he makes a mistake) has no honor him/herself. None.

They've done it in Pro Tennis, it is time to let technology call balls and strikes behind the plate and take the human error out of it. But I know it will probably never happen. I was glad MLB initiated instant replay into the game but it should be used for every close play.

I hope there is some sort of accountability when the league reviews these incidents, whether it's a verbal or written reprimand, or suspension.

@@tomsmith5216 maybe you should read again. I never said any of that. I think you must have umpire issues. And reading issues. Players and coaches are mostly cry babies. Why do you think the MLB has had such a huge attendance and viewership drop. It's down around 60% compared to 20 years ago. Steroids, cheating, fights, and the rest. Baseball is killing itself and while most umpires are not at fault, a few are, but 90% of baseball's death throws are self inflicted. Cry babies.

Back in the day loved Earl Weaver argue with the umpires. He got his moneys worth.
Umps have waaaay too much power and it goes to their heads
These umpires nowadays love to provoke and antagonize the players managers and coaches with their attitudes and egos and it needs to be stopped .
Barring something like interference of some kind an umpire shouldn't be able to eject fans, that's complete nonsense.
Every one of these umps should be suspended at a minimum, many of them fired. Umps need to be held to a higher standard. If they start a physical altercation with a player, that should be end of career on the spot.
The power of unions
Or fighting is allowed at that point. They'll start acting right real quick
I think in the last clip Lester was pissed at himself, not the ump. It is frustrating as a pitcher when you have those games where you just can't throw accurately.
Umpires shouldn't be instigators and they look like that in this video.
The problem with this song is all the energy that both of them spend talking to each other to prove how dumb the other one still is, which undermines the argument that they don’t care about each other and proves that they do care because they spend time communicating with each other to prove a point
Umpires have too much power, there should be 2 umpires or at least another person who can challenges the calls
This video is like an advertisement for MLB converting to electronic strikezones.
Id stop watching
Yeah you really are justadude because if you were an actual baseball fan you wouldn't freaking want electronic strike zones! They are the stupidest idea someone has ever considered, and only losers want them. Get off this video non-fan.
It sounds like a good idea but baseball is 10% drama. And without bad umpires, baseball will die
We're seeing this more today, in this day and age, than we ever did in the remote past of professional baseball.
Maybe because in the remote past the players and umpires would straight up fight each other instead (e.g. Ty Cobb vs. Billy Evans)
Funny thing is, you almost never see any accountability for these umps and their tantrums.
Yeah. Same goes for nfl its getting ridiculous....

I'm surprised how often they're right on bang bang plays.
The umpires act like little babies that can't handle it they need to get out of the game. How can they yell and scream at the players and the coaches and get away with it.
One day an umpire will have both managers coming out to argue at the same time
Umps have waaay too much power in a game. Only sport where you can get thrown out just for disagreeing with a call. You don’t even necessarily have to say anything. Even giving the side eye or your body language can get you thrown out. Unreal that has gone unchanged for all these decades.

Umps already make the game needlessly longer by taking everything personally and stopping the game to yell at people for noticing their bullshit. Paying to watch a game like that almost feels like a scam.

They should make ump's stand next to NFL refs for a game so the ump's can see how good they have it!
Try NHL refs. They average one fight a game that they have to break up. Some games they can have a line brawl go on for several minutes.
Just last week at the U18 World Cup, a ref took a accidental skate to the arm, needing dozens of stitches to close up.
Umpires are such punks

"How can you eject a guy if he paid for his seat?"
Umm what? Fans get tossed outta games all the time 🤣.
Yep.
Bad Umpires have the same personality type that crooked cops do. Out of control ego.

Umpires seem like the most paper skinned officials in sports. Like they have waaay too much power compared to refs in other sports
All sports have at least one official with ultimate authority over the contest. Difference is most other sports the officials are far more accountable for their actions. I ref soccer, I could never behave like this and keep my job.
