    Set up looks good but you should check on the code for the gas line. It looks like galvanized pipe coming down the wall of the house feeding your generator. I believe you need to use black pipe and not galvanized.

    Great job. Very impressive but shut off the choke after you start it and it will get alot more quiet and run smoothly.

    Kevin, for people who want a generator shed on the cheap, a plastic garden shed is the way to go. It is so easy to blow out your budget on a project like this. Your install is neat and clean. Your video got hung up on sound treatment. If you are serious about sound control I would suggest that you install a sound barrier against the wall (MLV) and then on top of this re-install your sound absorbent material. Also consider a hood over the intake and exhaust also insulated to redirect the sound waves as they like to travel in straight lines and think about a muffler on the exhaust.
    You really need to think about inside compartment temperatures. Buy a wireless thermometer and check the operating temperatures inside. If, in warmer weather it goes above say 110F I would be concerned. It is hard to find info on max ambient temperatures for air cooled generators online, but the weak links are the cylinder head and windings on the alternator. I have just gone thro this on my install and temperatures inside got to 125F inside the compartment before stabilizing. I freaked out and am in the process of upgrading from a 14 to a 16 inch fan with 3,000 cfm (variable speed). These generators pump out a lot of heat and when I see people with a 10-12 inch fan putting out 300-500 cfm I shudder. I shutter because most don't think about operating temperatures inside the compartment because you rarely see it discussed on TH-cam.
    I just met a man who told me he used an 8 inch fan and ran it 6 hours without a problem. He just assumed it was okay and when I questioned him he responded that it it still works but for the question is for how long?
    In defense of what you have done, it is for emergency use only and who knows, it may never be used. However these machines are not cheap and are not easy to fix so it is better to be safe.
    I did not notice if you put a shutoff valve on your gas line close to the generator; if not consider it.

    • @kevinh125
      @kevinh125  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thank you for all those tips! Its very helpful! I will probably change to a 14 fan. I also have a wireless thermostat in the shed now. I can see the temp in the shed in the summer months. As far is the sound, it actually doesn't sound that bad, i can barely hear in in the house. The intention is emergency use so even if we hear it, its ok too. Agian thank you for the feedback. Means a lot.

    Kevin the plastic base that the gen is sitting on will allow for a lot of noise transfer. I found this out with a swimming pool pump the customer complained was too loud as it was right under her bedroom window. That base is probably the same type used for HVAC units? It might have some Styrofoam under it but it doesn't really seem to matter, they are still pretty noisy. A solid base of some sort on the ground will quiet it down a little more. Great job on the video!

    Probably needs a muffler and I don't think that U turned the chock to run position. My firman run on gas and propane, so I would need a pad for the propane tank. Where is the power hooked inside the panel? 50A might too much.

  • @Teleman01
    @Teleman01 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was so excited as I was going to do the same thing with my Firman. Then I realized that whoever wired my main breaker panel in the 90s, did not really install a main breaker lol. They installed the 100A main breaker which controls the main breaker panel inside my garage, but that 100A main breaker does not control my HVAC breaker nor another breaker on the outside panel. So there is no "main" breaker that literally shut everything off to the house at once. So there is no way I can install an interlock.

    Nice video. After starting are you sure you’re not supposed to move the chock over to run? It sounds to be running rough and not at 3600RPM/60Hz. That will probably make your noise levels better and let you run more of your houses electrical loads.
