- We build a homemade invention with springs, a pipe and wood. In principle, the spring is what gives impulse to the projectile. Its system and assembly is super simple and easy to do since you do not need many tools.
The reach of this reaches about 5 meters with the same power, with an 8mm diameter ball bearing.

I made one of those back in 1974 when I was a freshman in high school. I used a Bic pen that shot bb’s. I used a needle thru the bottom of the barrel to hold the spring from flying out and another needle on top of the bb trapping it and holding in place when it was tilted down, thanks for the memories.
Sounds like you could use a long staple...pull both "stops" out at once
You could put silicone on the plunger and give it a smoother action. Also, creating a simple flip lever as a thumb trigger would be easy.

When we were kids, we would make frog gigging dart pistols and would use what was called blood rubber hose from a hospital that a family member worked at. This stuff was super kinetic .You could gig bullfrogs with wooden darts fired from these homemade pistols and it would pin the frog to the ground making it easy to retrieve your dinner.
This powerful rubber hose also made sling shots you could take wild rabbits with.
When us kids went camping we never wanted for a good wild game meal. What fun memories you brought back to this ole man.....thanks

You need to mount a magnet on the bottom to hold steel ball in until fired. Or into the wood under washer. Also a smaller barrel would work better. You guide path is about to break through at the end of the barrel. It could be easily made with 1 and 1/2 inch pipe with a reducer. The spring and guide path being in the 1 inch part. The wood tapering to 1/2 inch size for about an inch to hit the ball. With magnet glued on reducer that joins them.

Excellent job with all that ingenuity I would have thought somebody would put a blanket on that brick wall so the ball bearing didn't ricocheting bust you in the head hopefully everything turned out all right love your Channel

Youve got the basics of a buffer tube design down pat.

Anyone else notice it’s only seconds away from blowing out the end? The slide bar is about to blow it’s way out of the end of the barrel and become a projectile itself! Watch at the end where he’s shooting cans. Perhaps the slot needs to end long before the barrel tip to prevent this.

I made arrow launching canes outta pvc and a spring from a roll up blind ... Throws a 3/8s aluminum dowel about 60 feet straight up.. its great for spearing bait mullet and small game. Made an even bigger one otta copper pipe. Wish i could post pics here
