    Tracy Nice job, I been around and around with sellers in Alibaba, 1) nobody wants to pay PayPal fees so how can you pay and have your money secured? 2) I requested samples their response was samples are at full price and if I wanted my own logo I needed to purchase the minimum 500 pcs. or even 100pcs but still high to test an item on the market. 3) I found out by a good source in China that they want to always know your selling market, they will research Amazon for that product and sell it to you at a higher prices and also compete against you with the same product on Amazon. We have to pay at times broker fees that includes customs and warehouse fees for bigger loads, I Pay PayPal fees because my money is secured, and and try to sell the product at a decent price but come to find out China supplier is selling the same product at dirt cheap price. do not give China Your selling marketplace tell them you have your own local store. my 2 cents

      Hi, Raider!
      1) I had to walk away from distributors that wouldn't use Paypal. Now, that I have a little faith, I will work with companies that have 10+ years experience, with bank transfers. The truth is, if they want to scam us it will be hard to get our money back no matter what method we use. I used Paypal strictly at first, and then am just branching into bank transfers with companies I am now comfortable with and with companies that have been a round a long time.... figuring they wouldn't still be in business if they were scamming people (also google search the company)
      2) I was getting these same responses until I used the '10 samples to our 5 distribution locations'. This seemed to make them more willing to work with me. I did have 1 product that stuck to needing 500 units for logo work, and I had them send me the product no logo and had a fabric iron on logo square made from another company, and put them on myself. I know that seems crazy, but it was cheaper, faster, and I could test the product without being so financially invested (I just had to invest some elbow grease)
      3) I always gave them my business name and website, but have never been asked about Amazon or told I was their competition until the one I showed in video. Something else to consider as buyers.
      GOOD LUCK!

    Great video Tracy! You mentioned how you changed the wording to getting "50 samples to send out across 5 different offices" rather than putting in a regular order small order of 50 units as they
    typically do not accept such small orders. How much did they charge to send out those 50 "samples" to you? I hear many sellers say receiving just a SINGLE sample can cost upwards of $100.

    • @EntrepreneurGirl
      @EntrepreneurGirl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find that the expense is in sending the box, whether there are 1 or 50 items. Of course, it's more expensive but I felt it was minimally so. Does that make sense?

    Congrats Tracy! It's good to hear that you have conquered this mission! I have to tell you that I had found a product line and followed it on Jungle Scout, spent $300 on samples and discovered that suddenly, the manufacturer in China was selling them on Amazon. Also, another product, Amazon started to sell. So by the time I had gone through all the steps, we had lost out and Amazon and the manufacturer had already taken over the line. The more of a niche you can find, the better off you are.
    BTW we had elected to have our copy and our pics done professionally. 6 weeks later, we finally received the copy and we are still waiting for the pics. Word to the wise, we will follow your lead and do it ourselves. I wish we would have done it ourselves and we would have another $300 in our pocket. We are beyond disappointed in this company we were dealing with. No more!
    Congrats again! You are amazing as always. XOXOX

      SO glad you added that... honestly, Alibaba selling it too wasn't even on my radar. Here in the states, most distributors, just stay, well.... distributors. I can see where this could become a huge obstacle not only for PL but for regular sellers, too.

    Tracy, Thank you for your detailed info. explaining your experiences, issues and just the basics of how to succeed in selling private label on Amazon. Most other TH-cam videos give sketchy info. which does not walk you through the process. I realized these are usually the people who make their money selling a course on Amazon FBA for a hefty price. I want you to know that your videos have made me feel more comfortable and confident with getting started with Amazon FBA Private label and I am in debt to you for the help you have given me (making sense of this process). Your also very attractive and pleasant which adds to the invaluable information your your graciously providing. Thanks. George S.

    Your journey and my journey is very similar, but I am still researching! I appreciate your videos so much. They make me feel more comfortable. I am a penny pincher and it gives me great anxiety to think about shelling out all the cash and I just feel like I am going to get scammed. Honestly, I started inquiring about products and then MOQ of 1000 and freight forwarding scared me and I kind of feel stuck. You have given me some new found hope.

    • @EntrepreneurGirl
      @EntrepreneurGirl  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I wanted the videos to be more about the emotions and behind the scenes, then how to because I feel 90% of the obstacles are truly in our minds. I doubted what I was doing every single day, and still just did it. Figuring, I wouldn't know if it worked or not, unless I tried. I would rather try, know, and fail.... then always sit around feeling bad that I didn't try and what if it is the next best thing..... :)

    Love your authentic way of helping beginners. Wish you were my neighbor.. Here's my question: I received my beautiful samples from China in just 13 days (including weekends) I sent my prototypes to my China manufacturer 21 days (including weekends) ago via USPS China keeps asking me where my package is. I went to USPS and learned that sometimes it takes 30 days from California to China??? No - I didn't buy a tracking number because it cost $15. more than my $22.00 shipping..So am I screwed ...is this normal from the US to China shipping time wise?. I'm so worried that all my prototypes and hard work are just lost forever :(( Thanks so much for answering !!

  • @FloridaExpunge
    @FloridaExpunge 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello Tracy! Quick question. I want to know how you gauge competition when doing the research on Amazon. Is it better to find a product that has a single seller? Is it ok if a few different versions exist? What criteria are you using for this factor?

  • @leah8221
    @leah8221 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Maybe a silly question but... When you are requesting samples and sending a small shipment to a distributor (for example, Amazon)... are you getting the sample first before approving the small first shipment? I'm a little confused on that because you said you get a few sent to you as a sample when you order the 50 piece order...

    some companies in China will drop ship your PL with logo to amazon's warehouse. the bad part about that is that amazon finds out where you got it from and if it is a good selling product, they will sell it themselves.

      Amazon can offer a better price because they purchase in very large quantities. They have been establishing themselves and building relationships with manufacturers since 1996. They are not assholes, they are a well established brand offering quality products at a good price for their customers.

    • @imapineapple15
      @imapineapple15 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      cgisf I had Brita filters on amazon for something like 18.99 when amazon's price was 19.99. I just wanted to simply clear my inventory. You know what amazon did? They lowered their price to 16.79 until I brought my price back up again and then it was mysteriously back up to 19.99. That's an asshole move. But it's part of the game. It's not wrong, but it's an asshole move, knowing most of us new sellers can't get anything for that price. Luckily, Amazon was backordered so I got my sales back briefly. Not doing that product again unless I get it for like $5-8 which won't happen.

    Hello Tracy. I have few questions if you don't mind answering? You mentioned that you got almost 20 different samples. So, are these all different type of products from different suppliers ? Or they are different products from one supplier.because each supplier is asking for at least $50 for shipping. So if you order 20 samples. That will be $1000 for initial samples only?.. Please advice me.l am stuck at this stage where l have to order samples.. Please please please.

  • @BloomWherePlanted555
    @BloomWherePlanted555 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Congrats!!! Job well done!!! Q1 : do you check if they take small order (50 units) before you order sample or after you order sample? Q2: how did you pay for sample and actual products? Paypal?

    • @EntrepreneurGirl
      @EntrepreneurGirl  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      SOOOOO glad you asked this, because I should have told you all this....
      I always get a per unit price FIRST (including my logo and packaging), ask if they accept Paypal, and see how long it takes to manufacture once the order is placed. Once I have that information, and it's harder for them to change their per unit cost drastically, I use the '10 units to 5 distribution sites' letter to request my sample of 50 units.
      I have always used Paypal only, up to just recently when I did my first wire transfer with a company that I have been working with for a few months.

    • @BloomWherePlanted555
      @BloomWherePlanted555 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you soooo much for your reply :) I'm a little confused, sorry. "I always get a per unit price FIRST (including my logo and packaging)" -> you get the per unit price based on their minimum order quantity (let's say 300 units) or you ask per unit price based on 50 units that you want? After that, you will ask about 50 samples?

    The reason why Chinese direct sellers can undercut their US wholesale customers is that the Chinese factory direct sellers don't pay customs when they send one item to the US. When you order 100 items for your FBA account then you end up paying customs and you end up competing with your supplier who can undercut you on amazon.

Also, if you watch the item the price can drop and you can get discounts if you buy using the app - I'm not sure why they want you to use the app so bad. But yes, I would maybe see if you could buy a few units on aliexpress and then do bigger orders on alibaba. I wouldn't be surprised if a seller sells on both platforms. I think your method of pretending you're a big company, using verbage like "we" and trying to get samples for your "suppliers" or "clients" seems like a good method.

    Do you not have Alibaba manufacturers ship directly to Amazon after you proof the samples?

    Since it's private labeled, do we need to register it or to patent it? Do we need to buy a liability insurance for this product before we can sell it to Amazon? I am a private seller in Amazon, if I private label, do I need to shift to the Profesional Selling Plan?

    Hi Tracy,
    I am an small business owner ready to place my first order from china through Alibaba, but i am not sure about which freight company or shipping method would be more secure and cheaper, i heard you talked about Fedex but i've been told that their prices are way too high from freight shipments, I am looking for a company that also take care the taxes and duties process.
    i would greatly appreciate it your comments on this, thank you

      If you use air FedEx, Ups, any of the larger american side companies they will handle the duties and taxes for you. Only if you are shipping by boat do you need to get a customs broker like Farris Custom Brokers.

    great info. I'm trying g to research on my own because even the cheapest course is over $600. kind of hard to start if you have to pay all this entry fees. I like the info you put out. how do you deal with customs for large orders? is it built in in the shipment? or is it extra?

    • @EntrepreneurGirl
      @EntrepreneurGirl  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I started, I stuck with air cargo and using Fed Ex or UPS as they take care of customs for you. The small part you have to do, they will walk you through if you need help (I had them on the phone while I did my first order). China manufacturers will include this and handle this for you sometimes, just make sure you request air cargo and door to door shipping.
