    I agree looks like jurassic Park for a simpler Dino theme game for Two players I would recommend Raptor

    Fantastic, great humour and yet an insightful review that covers those key “should I buy?” Decisions. I particularly like the alternate choices at the end - a great money saver for going “Oh good, I already own that 🙂”

    There is a fan expansion for Robinson Crusoe that is basically Jurassic Park themed in co-op mode. Yes, there's a can of shaving cream.

    Minor correction: "After all players have had three turns in this phase, evaluate the remaining DNA dice. Take the die with the most threat pips (1, 2, or 3) and move it to the holding area (in the top right corner); that number will be added to all players threat levels during the Park Phase. If no DNA dice were unclaimed, then no die is moved to the holding area"

    I've come so close to buying this game so many times. Love dinosaurs, love park management games (long-time Zoo Tycoon-player), and I honestly love the color scheme and overall visual style. I just wish it was a bit crunchier and I'd bite the bullet.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. It just needed a bit more crunch for me too.

    I decided on Dinogenics over Dinosaur Island. I preferred the more realistic aesthetic over the neon fever-dream.

    Worker placement is one my fav game mechanics but i don't know why i don't like this one... Maybe its the choice of colors, gives me a different vibe to the theme.

    I'd definitely agree at the weight vs appearance assessment and the opinion that this is a good game but not an instabuy classic. Expansion rights some of the first issue but still not totally.
    For me I suspect dinogenics is the better game but I own dinosaur island because it is exactly the game for teaching the basics of a few mechanics and even just getting people comfortable with the flow of what looks an overwhelming experience at a glance. Taught it to a few folk now and everyone had the same "oh that was really fun, was expecting something far more complex" response. It is stupid big but that's sort of nice if you want to get people into stupid big games. Dinogenics seems the game for me but not those I will be playing this type of game with.
    Dinosaur island is also nice to solo when you're not feeling like a brain burner and I love the retro art style. Bangles and slap bracelets oh my.

      Dinogenics has a series of solo scenarios to play through as well that were more interesting than the DI one which want really implemented fully in the end.

    Jared, did you ever get a chance to try out Diogenics? They're doing a reprint (KS) this summer and I've been curious about it, as well as Dinosaur Island and the comparison between the two.

    What do you think of DinoGenics, the obvious competitor, as well as Raptor and (the upcoming) Tiny Epic Dinosaurs?

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dinogenics, not played but a bunch of people in the comments here and in other places are suggesting i would like it. I'm not a fano f the tiny epic games, and really did not like that they borrowed Dinosaur Islands colour palette either so gonna pass on that one

  • @Brotzkopf

    Love the game. The only thing that makes me sad is that the plastic dinos all look the same :( Make them out of wood and make one for each type. Carnivores, small carnivores and herbivores. In Parks you have way more different animals, so it can't be that expensive...

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think the deluxe Kickstarter version had different dino type figures, which was one of its big selling points. But I reckon the base game needed at least 3 types.

    What to say more about dinosaur island. I think the comment i make at the end, that its not as deep as it looks like it should be is important. This is very much a medium euro with a big foot print. Theres also a few things i didn't like mechanically, such as the small carnivores being a very poor return on investment compared to the other dinosaur types, and an overall lack of feeling like the dinos had character. Still, a pretty good game i'd be happy to play more, but not the instant classic many said it was on release, at least not to me.

      Try playing this with Totally Liquid. The PR events and Blueprints modules improved the game for us.

    • @militiaunderground
      @militiaunderground 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      but I agree with what you said about the small carnivores

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been on the fence about getting totally liquid. I mean i like the game, but its definitely not one of my favs. So there is that thing of "do i spend to fix, or just pass". The theme though, hot damn i love the them.

    • @BenBoersma
      @BenBoersma 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@militiaunderground agree those aspects do make it a better game, but the expansion dinosaurs in the expansion are just all over the place balance/value wise.

      I’ve tried this game multiple times and just can’t get into it. I think it really is the table hog aspect and it’s hard to get a good flow of natural decisions between phases. It’s a game I was super happy I tried before I bought it.

      @@3MBG I'd say the art in Dinosaur Island is more neon and pop art-y, whereas TED's art is more generic cutesy and colourful. Which is perfect to hook my girlfriend into playing lol.
