I used to hate off camber corners now I love them they are challenging but fun and If you have the skills you can ride them fast , there even more fun when they are dusty / loose !!
Scotty looked amazingly happy near the end! That's how happy I'll be on my first ride yet to come after several weeks off from an injury - Great vid guys keeps me improving even while I'm off the bike hurt!
Excellent tips guys :-) These skills are essential for ripping across open hilly terrain in Scotland with so many off camber sections. Making the most of proper knobbly tyres with aggressive side knobs is the only way to get grip on the stuff we ride without throwing it at the scenery :-)
We don't recommend this! If you're sliding you're speeding up not slowing down! And on terrain which could be loose or have hidden slippery roots a controlled slide could quickly become uncontrolled! Try and feather the brakes in order to control speed - then squeeze harder to slow the bike down when it has grip!
Ive been riding around town a bit since its winter, and the snow on the side of the road can force me onto the side walk. This is fine until you get an angled driveway end that is covered in ice. I kinda ride these like wall rides or if there is space ill just jump on the more level portion of the driveway right above the end
Here's a video to help out: th-cam.com/video/gPcTflbkRJE/w-d-xo.html We don't own one of each type of these bikes but we have a couple from most of the different categories!
I've recently put maxxis shorty tires on my bike and i love them. One thing i struggle with though is knowing how much grip i have on off camber, i slow down loads and im not confidant to keep the speed and find the sweet spot where i would grip, ant tips?
You've got to build your confidence and explore that grip! Keep practicing and slowly get faster and push the bike into the ground at where the is grip (flatter sections, hard packed areas, in between roots) in order to get you through the section cleaner.
Everyone prefers one to the other! I'm better at turning left than right and prefer right hand sloping off cambers! - just keep practicing! We wouldn't recommend changing your forward foot to begin with! It would feel more foreign and add another obstacle to getting your technique dialled! Get the technique first...then you can try different feet forward as a practice option!
With the low pressure on a Plus sized tire, would the side wall of the tire collapse/squirm if you ride an off camber rooty section aggressively? #askgmbn #askneil
hmmm, we do a video on steep descents, technical descents and switchback descents so all the points are there...just not all in one video haha! We'll see what we can do!
GNX157, if it's so steep on the side that u will hit then u can try half pedals on one side to keep your speed up, or lean the bike away from the slope while keeping your body weight toward the slope if your top tube isn't too high. Last resort is a skateboard push on the ground
Off cambers are difficult to pedal on for sure! You should always try and chose a proper entry line in order to have all the speed you could need and then control it with modulation of your brakes! You can always loose height on the camber to generate speed but it complicates and changes your line choice!
#AskGMBN have you guys been to Aston hill bike park in the Uk, there is sort of an off camber but full of roots on the ricochet run, I always get thrown to the bottom every time, any tips?
I've been once but too long ago to remember exactly where you're talking about! Sounds like its something that can be remedied by the corners set up! Set up low, and really push down into the bike so that when you 'pop' onto the off camber the bike is light and can track better across the roots! Try to identify where it is that you're losing traction and slipping down and make sure that you avoid that bit -either higher or lower! Sometimes going under an obstacle on an off camber means that you can hold your line better - you don't have to go high every time!
Edan Dolan Honestly you won't find any dropper posts that are new for under 350, especially internal wired, if you want, get one second hand. The best ones that I found gotta be made by Bontrager and KS. Rockshox and Fox dropper posts are way too expensive.
should i buy a used Rockshox pike rc with 160mm travel for 270e he says the stanchions dont have eny scratches and everything works fine what do you guys think?
MikuThePro LOL yeah, depends on the price but yeah if it's possible to look at them in person then thats a good idea way to check if they are worth it but I buy all my stuff second hand
Hey Neil I see you're rocking the Conti Trail Kings and i'm thinking of purchasing the 2.4 for my 26" hardtail. Can i get your honest opinion on them??
nashboy 123 I wouldn't try landing a jump on a off camber landing dwd....But if you do have a jump that has an off camber landing, I would suggest to try and whip it to land sideways to the take off but as trait as possible into the down slope ;)
We film all over! But yes this was filmed near Malaga in Spain. Be sure to follow us on snapchat (@gmbnsnaps) and Instagram (@globalmountainbikenetwork) to see where we are filming :)
Haha, no, that's not what I was after. Saw the preedited post in my notifications, so I can reply to that as well. I for some reason didn't realize that you'd have sponsors. So now I #askgmbn do you have to return the bike to get the latest model, or do you have an option to keep the last year model if you so wish?
they probably are but it's not an endurance sport it's not like you ride hours like road cycling Downhill is an explosive sport where you have to push for 5 at max heart rate it probably would help to dope but not like road cycling

Phil.R. Boosting their reaction times could be benefical
We do the odd giveaway through the dirt shed show or when we have product available! We're based in Bath in the UK so spend a lot of our personal time riding in South Wales
Global Mountain Bike Network thanks for replying. I live 45 mins from bath but I'm 14 so I can't go all that far to ride do you guys know of anywhere near by that's got more of a trail experiance/feel than some random fire roads or walking paths?
You guys need to pick him up and go for a ride!! I'm 31 and if Neil Scotty and Blake showed up at my front door wanting to go for a ride I would squeel like a 12 year old.
WumpusRX ha ha ha that comment just made my day (I've been ill so it cheered me up) but some kind of gmbn mtb skills workshop or big ride sounds like it could be really cool and with the amount of subscribers I'm sure there are enough in the south west of England that it would be worth while
Much the same as an off camber as there will be flatter points for grip and lots of loose or slippery points where there is less grip and you need to make the bike light and point and shoot!
Hey guys i want a new bike but don't have the money should I just buy a frame and put it together or save all my money and buy the bike I want #askgmbn
Its often cheaper to buy a bike as a full build when you actually break down the cost of all the different components! If you're very specific and want something bespoke then you can buy a frame and build it up!
This is probably one of the best how to videos so far, since almost everyone can relate. I know I struggled with off camber for a long long time.
Scott's cheeky dab at the end. 😎😃👌🏻🚲
I used to hate off camber corners now I love them they are challenging but fun and If you have the skills you can ride them fast , there even more fun when they are dusty / loose !!
Scotty. Please don't dab again. Lol
we've told him...
Global Mountain Bike Network Haha. I expect to see my comment as one of the comments of the week 😜
Scotty looked amazingly happy near the end! That's how happy I'll be on my first ride yet to come after several weeks off from an injury - Great vid guys keeps me improving even while I'm off the bike hurt!
Haha Scottys face when he dabbed got me laughing. Keep it up boys, fuck the dab-haters!
I love those Poc helmets
so do we!
Excellent tips guys :-) These skills are essential for ripping across open hilly terrain in Scotland with so many off camber sections. Making the most of proper knobbly tyres with aggressive side knobs is the only way to get grip on the stuff we ride without throwing it at the scenery :-)
This is perfect I just started building a trail with camber 👍
That dab must be discussed in the dirt shed show, something must be done!! Suitable punishment?
That dab was horrendous I think we need a how to for scotty
I agree! My Nan dabs with more steez x¬D
+GlobalMountainBikeNetwork Scotty nearly twists his ancle at 1:15 😂👌
#askgmbn
#dirtshedshow
1:41 "loads of pspspsoepeps" hahahaha
When does Enduro vs Downhill come?
Later on this month! Keep your eyes peeled! 👀 👀 👀
To break faster and easier you can also make your rear tire sliding a bit to face up the hill and then break hard both !
I don't know if my English is clear sorry...
Yes you're right thanks !
Are you using the side knobs for grip or leaning the bike to increase the surface area in contact with the ground?
Ive been riding around town a bit since its winter, and the snow on the side of the road can force me onto the side walk. This is fine until you get an angled driveway end that is covered in ice. I kinda ride these like wall rides or if there is space ill just jump on the more level portion of the driveway right above the end
Nice protections!
That dab was so funny !!!
love this channel
Hey guys will you do any bike transporting videos? like in/on cars? roofrack types and reviews type things. ta
OI oi , loved scotts dabbing😂😂😂
What shorts are you guys wearing? They look like they will be good for tall people!
I don't wanna know how many times it took them to do this last scene
That was one funny dab Scotty....!!!! LOL
hi Neil
5:50 I love it : D
I feel like Scott is like the little brother of the GMBN group
#askgmbn how many bikes do you each have and explain what each one is for
Here's a video to help out: th-cam.com/video/gPcTflbkRJE/w-d-xo.html We don't own one of each type of these bikes but we have a couple from most of the different categories!
What's with all the dab hate? 😂😂
Can you do a video on how to dab?
You guys look cold...thanks for the tips.
Anyone else notice that slip at 1:30 from Scotty?
I've recently put maxxis shorty tires on my bike and i love them. One thing i struggle with though is knowing how much grip i have on off camber, i slow down loads and im not confidant to keep the speed and find the sweet spot where i would grip, ant tips?
You've got to build your confidence and explore that grip! Keep practicing and slowly get faster and push the bike into the ground at where the is grip (flatter sections, hard packed areas, in between roots) in order to get you through the section cleaner.
Are we going to get a video from Neil for how to deal with a cold? Sounding like you could do with a honey and lemon tea.
So just do it like you do pump tracks but on the ups pretty much.
Thumbs up if you want to see Scott do a dab no hander on a jump!
How is that I am fine with off camber to the left but when it is to the right I have trouble with balance?
everyone has a dominant side which they feel more confident on, just like writing, kicking etc.
Like everyone else said, it could be something to do with which way you prefer to corner.
nah i dont think its about confidence. its just the prefered way fo cornering
TheProjectX3 You just have to practice;-)
Everyone prefers one to the other! I'm better at turning left than right and prefer right hand sloping off cambers! - just keep practicing! We wouldn't recommend changing your forward foot to begin with! It would feel more foreign and add another obstacle to getting your technique dialled! Get the technique first...then you can try different feet forward as a practice option!
take the time to dab😆
is that bike new, neil?
With the low pressure on a Plus sized tire, would the side wall of the tire collapse/squirm if you ride an off camber rooty section aggressively? #askgmbn #askneil
Great video guys 👍🏻
#askgmbn how about a video on riding steep muddy twisty rutted runs like the black run in the wall or kinder on 3 masts.
hmmm, we do a video on steep descents, technical descents and switchback descents so all the points are there...just not all in one video haha! We'll see what we can do!
Nice!
the dabbbbbbbb😂😂😂
Great video, as always. These bastards caught me off guard a couple of times.
Also, song at 0:10? It's really chill...
So what about if I'm on a straight off camber section and I need to pedal? I'm always worried about pedal strikes.
GNX157, if it's so steep on the side that u will hit then u can try half pedals on one side to keep your speed up, or lean the bike away from the slope while keeping your body weight toward the slope if your top tube isn't too high. Last resort is a skateboard push on the ground
Lean the bike the best you can. And Practice.
Plus my bike is off the shelf and it came with 177 or .5 crank arms god knows why and that doesn't help either.
Off cambers are difficult to pedal on for sure! You should always try and chose a proper entry line in order to have all the speed you could need and then control it with modulation of your brakes! You can always loose height on the camber to generate speed but it complicates and changes your line choice!
Does anyone know how to ride step ups or rocks around 2 feet tall?
#AskGMBN have you guys been to Aston hill bike park in the Uk, there is sort of an off camber but full of roots on the ricochet run, I always get thrown to the bottom every time, any tips?
I've been once but too long ago to remember exactly where you're talking about! Sounds like its something that can be remedied by the corners set up! #askgmbn What are some tips for descending extremely steep and technical slopes?
th-cam.com/video/EhnIo21hi0g/w-d-xo.html ;)
don't mind off camber, but hate when there is wet loots.
#askgmbn I'm looking to get a dropper post what's a good but cheep internally run one
Edan Dolan brand x are good
Edan Dolan KS Lev would be a good cheap one
Edan Dolan Honestly you won't find any dropper posts that are new for under 350, especially internal wired, if you want, get one second hand. The best ones that I found gotta be made by Bontrager and KS. Rockshox and Fox dropper posts are way too expensive.
Edan Dolan The rockshox reverb is on sale on Jenson USA currently, they ship too!
We use Crank Bro's HIghlines!
should i buy a used Rockshox pike rc with 160mm travel for 270e he says the stanchions dont have eny scratches and everything works fine what do you guys think?
MikuThePro LOL yeah, depends on the price but yeah if it's possible to look at them in person then thats a good idea way to check if they are worth it but I buy all my stuff second hand
#askgmbn would a stiff shock fork affect the way your front wheel grips?
A fork that hasn't got enough sag will be less grippy than a correctly set up fork.
Okay thanks
Awesome :D Btw how cold is it where you are? Noticed you're wearing big bomber jackets which must be warm!
This was filmed in Southern Spain! That day it snowed for the first time in 80 years... :(
Aww that's mean :) Well it's supposed to be summer here and it's rubbish! Rain rain rain...
Hey Neil I see you're rocking the Conti Trail Kings and i'm thinking of purchasing the 2.4 for my 26" hardtail. Can i get your honest opinion on them??
They are fantastic trail tyres, roll really fast and enough grip for trail riding :)
Thanks GMBN! Keep rolling, keep it 100.
When's the next unblocking coming?
5:52 any respect I had for scotty just left me
us too
Why is there always a handful of jackasses giving these helpful and informative videos the thumbs-down??? WTF?
So that's what a camber bike is for
What bike was Neil riding in this video? Is it new?
It's his new Scott Spark!
#askgmbn #dirtsdedshow video idea. cheap bike vs expensive bike. base model Scott or canyon vs top of the line. what do you get for your money.
Unfortunately that would be a review and we don't do reviews!
Global Mountain Bike Network. No way. it's a comparison. You do those all the time! Maybe even a race! A "cheap" Enduro vs top line race.
What about off camber landings for jumps and stuff?
nashboy 123 I wouldn't try landing a jump on a off camber landing dwd....But if you do have a jump that has an off camber landing, I would suggest to try and whip it to land sideways to the take off but as trait as possible into the down slope ;)
bruhh ! Thanks for the advice I'll try it!
Cmon Scott, I thought u were better than that 😔
what bike you ride,neil?
scott spark i think
Helmut Breuer scott spark 700
thx guys.
How would you get into slopestyle leagues?
Start in Dirt Jump competitions and work your way up!
in what locations do you film your videos?
Matt Rawlings i'm pretty sure this was filmed in Málaga, Spain :) but they don't film everything at the same spot...
We film all over! But yes this was filmed near Malaga in Spain. Be sure to follow us on snapchat (@gmbnsnaps) and Instagram (@globalmountainbikenetwork) to see where we are filming :)
So if I don't like off camber straights and corners do I dislike the video?
Only if you want to hurt Neil and Scott's feelings....
Global Mountain Bike Network so I guess I'd better like it then
what type of knee pads are those gmbn
DiSneaky g-form.com/knee-pads-mountain-bike-skateboard I think it's these. But I've been wrong before
Close! They are Six Six One recon pads :)
Global Mountain Bike Network ok, so now I've been wrong twice.
Scott polite note:
Just please don't dab
#askgmbn I'm looking at getting a giant reign 2 are they any good or what is a good bike to get with a budget of $4000
#response get a canyon enduro or a yt capra
We ride Scott and Canyon at GMBN and can't recommend them enough! They ride great!
#askgmbn what happens with your old bikes when you get new ones?
we don't have anything lying around if thats what you're after ;)
Haha, no, that's not what I was after. Saw the preedited post in my notifications, so I can reply to that as well. I for some reason didn't realize that you'd have sponsors.
So now I #askgmbn do you have to return the bike to get the latest model, or do you have an option to keep the last year model if you so wish?
How to 180?
dat dab yo
Neil.. Did you get a new bike 👀 if so... Bike check soon maybe? :)
No sure about Neil, but Blake did get a Scott bike.
Bike Check on the Spark coming soon...
I'm sorry Scotty but u should leave the dabbing back on e pedal and in 2016
only helps if you have a friendly bike : )
#askgmbn are poeple tested for drugs when doing downhill racing?
they probably are but it's not an endurance sport it's not like you ride hours like road cycling
Downhill is an explosive sport where you have to push for 5 at max heart rate it probably would help to dope but not like road cycling
Phil.R. Boosting their reaction times could be benefical
in that case it would definitely help, more muscles, more strength , more speed and easier handling it helps everywhere except in your health hahha
OK thx guys
But, I still wanna know from the team about what they have experienced.
#askgmbn Culd you do some bike reviews and bike buy-tips?
We've got bike buy tips! th-cam.com/video/QDBMPfJ0YrQ/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/6hpeLNw9M5w/w-d-xo.html but we don't do reviews!
Global Mountain Bike Network Yes. I alteady knew. But I'd prefer a special one for Dh-bikes. Thanks for your answer.
#askgmbn can you do some giveaways? and what are your local trails?
Hugh Wylie they do give aways on the channel every now and again. Just keep your eyes peeled.
We do the odd giveaway through the dirt shed show or when we have product available! We're based in Bath in the UK so spend a lot of our personal time riding in South Wales

How to ride washed out trails?
Much the same as an off camber as there will be flatter points for grip and lots of loose or slippery points where there is less grip and you need to make the bike light and point and shoot!
#askgmbn how much do I spend on a good downhill bike
lewis earl more than 2000
Anywhere between £2000 and £8000! Depends on your budget! Or if you're looking second hand a lot of good stuff goes around the £1500 mark
Hey guys i want a new bike but don't have the money should I just buy a frame and put it together or save all my money and buy the bike I want #askgmbn
single fun Trails definitely save up and buy the bike you want, that's what I'm doing right now
Its often cheaper to buy a bike as a full build when you actually break down the cost of all the different components! If you're very specific and want something bespoke then you can buy a frame and build it up!
dont fuckn dab scott
Did Scotty just Dab???
#askgmbn How old are you guys?
