Bill is an extraordinary artist. His skill set and knowledge are second to none. Plus, he's just the nicest guy you'll ever meet. I, along with the rest of the audience, was blown away with his performance at The Church Studio and I loved being able to sit down with him for this interview. Can't wait to see him again in Tulsa! :-)
Bill is a wealth of information ~ I could listen to him for hours! He full of compliments, and respect for other musicians too… That makes him special in my book ~ Thanks Bill🌹🌅❣️
I had the pleasure of seeing the Sons of Champlin when they were just about to release their first album. It was at Abraham Lincoln High in San Francisco, and I'm thinking the year was about 1969. They just blew us all away! They were so tight, and Champlin's voice and songs were just stellar! And Terry Haggerty on guitar was absolutely on fire! I still remember that concert so well. And finally, what Bill said about George Duke, absolutely true. I had the honor of giving him some technical support with Passport's Notation Software in 1983. He was the nicest person I ever had the pleasure to assist. He chatted it up with me about a concert I had seen him in at the Fillmore West, years ago, playing with Frank Zappa and the Mothers. That was another outstanding show! RIP George Duke, and RIP Leon Russell, you've both left your incredible marks on the music world.
I remember seeing Bill Champlin and his band at Edna McGuire Junior High in Alto (Mill Valley, CA) in either 1960 or 1961. They were great at that time and showed that their talent would certainly lead to greater things. My brother was learning guitar at the time and said that he had practiced or played with Bill and his band. I remember that they played "Wipe Out" and "Bulldog".
I still don’t get the friction from Chicago’s original members towards Bill. They needed a spark. They brought him in. He delivered a few times for many years.. Ego bs just piss’s me off.. He bridged tbe gap from Terry’s passing in the latter 70’s to the new music world which was MTV.. I was impressed with tbe transition….A simple thank you is in order…
I love playing Lady Blue! I've added a soft shaker to it. It's a beautiful song!

Champlin is one cool dude
He is indeed! Very level-headed. He had tons of insightful thoughts for us!
Love Bill. Love Leon. Enough said. Many thanks CS. God bless you all.

What I like about Bill telling stories is he's not one for exaggeration to be a storyteller.
We agree! It was a distinct pleasure to listen to him discuss his experiences in such a raw and captivating way.
Awesome

Bill Champlin may be “The World’s Most Interesting Man”
The Sons of Champlin was the best horns band of all time. And all the other San Francisco bands thought they were the best band in the Bay area.
