    Congratulations on finishing!!
I ended up 12 minutes short of my A goal (3:10) and covering 26.59 miles with all zigzagging through congested crowds… also, for the first time ever, I had major cramps at around mile 21-22… somehow I managed (with extra salt stick and water) to “recover” by mile 25, but too much time has lapsed… and that extra 0.37 mile cost me of getting BQ (not that I’d get a bib, but still)…
Amazing that we had similar experiences! After the race I’ve heard Sara Hall talk about humidity and so did Matt Fox of the Sweat Elite - turns out humidity was 87%…
Still grateful to have finished one of the world majors!
    Congratulations!!

Thank you for mentioning that last bridge which didn’t have any carpeting and had sharp edges - it actually crossed my mind, as I was fighting my cramps, that it would be really bad place to fall!
I’m from California and totally was tricked by clouds and some early morning breeze… it was quite a “welcome to Chicago!” experience! 😂😂

Cermak Bridge, that's the one! I saw some poor woman bust her head on that bridge during the run, was not good.
We definitely had "okay" weather at best during the race. Had is been down 5-10 more degrees, we'd be in for a real treat!
      Congrats on the solid finish!

      Thanks!
Ya, I think someone described it as “sneaky” - on the surface it seemed like great conditions, even some breeze at times, but humidity was there for sure… explains why so many people struggled with dehydration and cramps!
      Congratulations again!👍

I found the weather deceptively warm/humid. I ran my first 5k power numbers bang on, and noticed my HR was higher than I'd like it...but I ignored it and kicked up at 5k to my goal race power and basically flirted with HR threshold for over the next 20km, which ruined my day. By 25k I run the last respectable KM based on power. Cramping is starting in the calves, body has blown through glycogen and stomach is basically shut off. Which makes me drink less and less which results in more cramping...and around and around it goes. I stopped at just after 30km to stretch my calves, and immediately other body parts start to cramp and spasm...and I realize if I stop running again, I might not be able to run again at all. So I force myself to not stop or walk anymore. I also start to grab water at every aid station to throw on myself, I've never done this before....ever. So I basically do a gradual 15k death march to the finish and end up at 3:19:53 for a 7sec BQ...which won't hold, but whatever, that alone put a smile on my face at the finish. My coach had given me power targets adjusted for middle of the race temp/humidity, but I decided to go with my base power profile which my training supported and paid dearly for it. I went for sub 3:10 and failed. Lesson learned heading into Boston 2025...don't execute power in a vaccum.
It was an odd race, I saw so many people who were really strong at 32k, and I saw others who were having a WAY worse day than me.
Glad that you seem at peace with your day.

Very similar experience here too. The perception is that the people having a record-day were showing it in the first 10-12 miles, and then REALLY fell apart by 13-14. I saw way too many people falling/stopping after that, understandably so. Chinatown was right about where I knew if I didn't run/walk this thing, I was going to fall over/faint like the couple dozen I already saw do so.
      Congrats on the day!

@@FilipLatochaRunning Once I knew I had my Boston 2025 bib, I changed my goals for Chicago and REALLY went for sub 3:10 with the idea that, worst case I blow up and I regroup for Boston. If I had been cut from Boston 2025 I suspect I would have run a much more conservative race and finished in the 3:12-3:13 range (solid 3-4min PB).
Rest up and recover, and keep that training consistency, you'll be back in 3:0X shape soon enough.
