I'm a die-hard Mavs fan so I might be biased in saying this, but I think this was one of the most well-played games by any team ever. The shooting was freaking unbelievable but it wasn't possible without the beautiful ball movement the Mavs had going all night long. I think this was my favorite Mavs game to ever watch (obvs Game 6 of the Finals but come on. This was unreal.).
Dallas Mavericks were unbelievably unstoppable that season, especially the playoffs. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. THAT is how you turn on the intensity of your team and demolish your playoffs opponents on your way to winning a Finals.
Kobe had multiple bad series individually and much of his career is overhyped by a large fanbase. Even his winning peak wasn't as great as other greats. And while I do think he's at a top 10 player ever level, I can easily see him out of the top 10. Wilt, Bill, MJ, LeBron, Bird, Magic, Kareem, Shaq, Hakeem and Duncan all had more impressive resumes imo (and there's no particular order). Wilt: a basketball God who managed to win rings during the Celtics' era etc; Russell: greatest winner and the man who managed to win more MVPs than someone like Wilt (which shows the massive amount of respect his peers had for him) etc; MJ: MJ; LeBron: LeBron; Bird: ROY against Magic, 3 MVPs in a row during Magic's era, same amount of finals MVPs, ~10 healthy seasons and 10 all-NBA, 3 rings during the greatest Lakers dinasty ever etc; Magic: 5 rings, 3 FMVPs, 3 MVPs etc during Bird's era etc; Kareem: Kareem. Honestly, super underrated. One of the greatest peaks ever, won FMVPs as a young player and then as a veteran, underrated defensively (some people talk about him as an one trick pony) etc; Shaq: only dude who eliminated MJ in the 90s, 3 FMVPs in a row, deservedly made the top 50 players ever list as a young player (shows how scary he was) etc; Hakeem: only dude to win DPOY, MVP and FMVP in the same season (next to MJ), worst team to ever win a ring was his Rockets (6th seed iirc), 2 DPOY and one of the greatest defenders ever, 2 FMVP, *ARGUABLY* the greatest big of a generation full of great bigs (Ewing, Robinson, Shaq) etc. Honestly ridiculous how little praise he gets; Duncan: all-star in his first season, same 5 rings as Kobe but with 3 FMVPs and 2 MVPs (so more FMVPs and more MVPs), championship level for nearly 20 seasons, all-NBA from his early 20s to his late 30s, an insane peak that's overshadowed by the slow era and lack of flashy moves, face of one of the greatest dynasties ever, his best team mates were never as praised as Kobe's (Kawhi wasn't 2019 Kawhi back in 2019) etc. Duncan HAS a case as the best of his generation, but most people completely ignore it because of Kobe's flashy moves and the LA spotlight... Duncan and Hakeem are often ignored by people when they're making a top 10 list and I just think it's unfair with them. Of course Kobe has merits and he deserves to be up there with the absolute best to ever play, but his legacy is far from making him a top 5 player, let alone a GOAT conversation (his fanbase usually puts him there)... And in 10 or so years, I can see this top 10 changing but not because of my views on Kobe, but because of Giannis and maybe Curry and Luka. Giannis is on pace of becoming the greatest PF ever (Malone and Dirk are very underrated, not to mention Barkley, KG and obviously TD) and he's already one of the most accomplished players ever before becoming 27; Curry has changed the game like no player in decades and his legscy might give him a case as the greatest PG ever; and Luka is a *basketball* HOF even before playing a single game, has multiple playoffs moments while carrying a bad team against much better ones, shi ton of TDs and all-time great scoring numbers in the playoffs.
In my opinion, there's a clear top 4: 1- MJ 2- LeBron 3- Kareem 4- Magic After that, things get a bit blurry. Wilt, Bird, Bill, Hakeem, Shaq and TD all have great cases and some absurd peaks, but with some weaknesses. Either longevity, multiple all-time great post season moments, both offense and defense at all-time great level and/or overwhelming accolades. After these 6, I can think of Kobe, Curry and Giannis as borderline top 10 players (if Giannis can keep playing at this level for ~7-10 seasons and getting more accolades).
@@calamorta it isn't just fans that put him top ten, I'd say ESPN , TNT etc have him top 10. But please say kobes stats, he also has a lot of all stars, and had a 81 point game. guys to be able to shoot 3's consistently: kidd, stevenson, terry, nowitzki, stojakovic. gives you so many tactical possibilities. that was a really nice team.
I feel like their biggest [roblem was their defense. Chandler handled the paint quite nicely in that sense though. Blocked up Lebron by building The Wall with Dirk and Terry too.
@@injusticeanywherethreatens4810 they had marion and brewer that who can defend the perimeter at that time. Kidd is also a underated defender. The mavs 2011 team was a complete package team both on offense and defense.
Yep. 3 players positioned side by side in the paint. 1 guarding what’s coming inside up the middle bringing help defense when needed, 2 watching back door cuts switching on screens, other 2 closing off any openings on the perimeter.
The first 3 games, the Lakers literally loss the game in the 4th quarter, but this game, they just got they asses whooped. I'll never forget this game as a Laker fan.
The 2011 Mavs squad had the firepower to match the Warriors' shooters- Stojakovic, Terry, Stevenson, Kidd can all light it up behind the arc, Barea can penetrate at will and make Curry play D and that would affect his O, put Marion on Klay, and there's no way Draymond Green can guard Dirk, nobody can guard the 2011 version of Dirk. Mavs in 6 or 7.
As a Lakers Fan, gotta give respect to the Mavericks for their playoff run, although I definitely would’ve been peed off with how the Zen Master’s career ended on a Whimper, plus the fact that we were coming off back-to-back titles.
and that was the beginning of the collapse of the Lakers franchise! I don't know if they'll ever get back to the finals, maybe 10 years down the road?!
This really was the beginning of the end of the Kobe era. The Lakers haven't been the same since this beatdown. And the way the West is looking, it might be many more years before they're contenders again.

One thing I've paid attention to since 2008, if the lakers lost to another team in the playoffs, then that team ended up either making the finals or winning the championship and it's happened in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2021. The Mavs won it all in 2011, the Thunder made it to the finals in 2012, same with the Spurs in 2013, and the Suns in 2021.
CaptainSal Miami took them to six games while Lakers got swept by playing poor defense. There was no reason for the Mavs to keep having so many open shots like this.

Smh I remember this like it was yesterday I was shocked bc I truly thought that the Lakers would be back in the finals to face the Heat but man was I wrong I knew this was the beginning of the end for Kobe & the Lakers.
I was born and raised in LA. When I cut myself shaving I bled purple (or Forum Blue for you old timers). Now, by this time I had relocated to the DFW area for work. By this time I had left my primary job and was now working for both the AAC arena and the Texas Rangers baseball club. The Rangers had a game this day and they paid more. I opted to work for them. There would be more playoff games to work. GUH! As I would walk past the bars that had the game on, I couldn't believe what I was seeing (and I couldn't stop that much to watch). It was dubbed the Mother's Day Massacre. I HATED this game. I have no IDEA why I'm watching this. On the other hand I got to see the Mavs got to the finals and see 3 of those games in person.
Peja was 6 for 6 and Terry 9 for 11 on threes.. you can't lose of you shoot like that. That's no accident they won a ring that year. That moment in time, their offence was too much for anyone to handle.
You know, people give GSW all the credit for changing the game but I think the game was already starting to change here. These Mavs showed that 3 pt shooting was important. I've watched the NBA since 2007 and I used to always hear "you can't win a championship with jumpshots" and the 2011 Mavs proved that wrong. Then came Miami but shortly after Miami came the Spurs (amazing 3pt shooting team) and then the Warriors of course.
(20) 3 pointer massacre on the Lakers. When the Lakers get eliminated in the playoff, its always a massacre of somehow in the elimination games. Examples: Pistons dismantle them in 2004. Spurs crushed them 2003. Suns blew them out two straight years by at least 20 pionts. Celtics beat them by almost 40 points in 2008. Thunders knocked them out by about 15 points. Lakers are great winners. BUT when the Lakers go out, they always go out not fighting but always in humiliation.
billy mockery 2003 the lakers missed a game winning 3 which would have brought the series 3-2 to their favor. 2004 shaq n kobe feud messed up their entire team inside out. 2005-7 lakers had some really bad players. 2008 no bigs =gg for kobe, 2011 lakers definately got outplayed.
The Lakers are one of the most overrated franchise not just in basketball history but in all of SPORTS. They just happened to be a big-market team that's why they attract all these superstars, and don't even get me started on fixed matches where the refs literally handed them titles.
billy mockery meanwhile celtics fight with intensity before they get eliminated.Btw Old Phil retired afterwards after tasting the true art of losing lol.
The difference between a Kobe and a Jordan lead team. Jordan lost one game 7 by a blowout because of Pippens migraine...and that shit never happened again. The Bulls never quit...biggest examples when they were down 0-2 vs the Knicks and when they came back against Portland in game 6. If those were Kobe teams they lose those games and the series. But Jordan kept fighting.
Hadn't noticed but after Heyward grabbed a board, he looked like he wanted to drive it, but then he sees an unguarded JET. Next thing you know, another 3.

Bird: ROY against Magic, 3 MVPs in a row during Magic's era, same amount of finals MVPs, ~10 healthy seasons and 10 all-NBA, 3 rings during the greatest Lakers dinasty ever etc;
Magic: 5 rings, 3 FMVPs, 3 MVPs etc during Bird's era etc;
Kareem: Kareem. Honestly, super underrated. One of the greatest peaks ever, won FMVPs as a young player and then as a veteran, underrated defensively (some people talk about him as an one trick pony) etc;
Shaq: only dude who eliminated MJ in the 90s, 3 FMVPs in a row, deservedly made the top 50 players ever list as a young player (shows how scary he was) etc;
Hakeem: only dude to win DPOY, MVP and FMVP in the same season (next to MJ), worst team to ever win a ring was his Rockets (6th seed iirc), 2 DPOY and one of the greatest defenders ever, 2 FMVP, *ARGUABLY* the greatest big of a generation full of great bigs (Ewing, Robinson, Shaq) etc. Honestly ridiculous how little praise he gets;
Duncan: all-star in his first season, same 5 rings as Kobe but with 3 FMVPs and 2 MVPs (so more FMVPs and more MVPs), championship level for nearly 20 seasons, all-NBA from his early 20s to his late 30s, an insane peak that's overshadowed by the slow era and lack of flashy moves, face of one of the greatest dynasties ever, his best team mates were never as praised as Kobe's (Kawhi wasn't 2019 Kawhi back in 2019) etc.
In my opinion, there's a clear top 4:
1- MJ
2- LeBron
3- Kareem
4- Magic
After that, things get a bit blurry.
@@calamorta Would you put KD and Wade in that borderline top 10 as well
@@calamorta it isn't just fans that put him top ten, I'd say ESPN , TNT etc have him top 10. But please say kobes stats, he also has a lot of all stars, and had a 81 point game. He played against the "super teams"!? Of Spurs / Celtics having 3 all star caliber players. 5 rings, MVPs/ fmvps ( don't remember how much) but I can't persuade you. I feel like people forget that the west was very competitive as you don't know whose in the playoffs until it starts. ( I didn't watch much east) but Houston had Yao / mcgrady, you see dirk / Kidd,. Etc Kobe would carry the Lakers to the playoffs without Shaq / gasol. I'm his fan cause he stayed 20 years with the Lakers. A feature very few can / will do.

guys to be able to shoot 3's consistently: kidd, stevenson, terry, nowitzki, stojakovic. gives you so many tactical possibilities. that was a really nice team.
I had nightmares after this seeing the jet making 3 and I tried to block it and hit my gf in the head
Besides the Detroit Pistons and the Boston Celtics. This is far by one of the worst, terrible, horrific, losses in Lakers history.
Peja with a long awaited revenge.
Most underrated championship team ever!
dont forget rick carlisle. thats good coaching. space the floor.
Stojakovic was an Excellent Recrue for the Mavs in 2011.
Can you imagine the 2011 Dallas Mavericks vs. the 2015 Golden State Warriors? Would've been an incredible series.
dirk would've killed it buy thru lose
+Santana2163 not really warriors would rape them mavericks,an intresting game would be 1995 bulls vs warriors
+jonathan andersen he said 2015 GSW. Not the 2016 GSW
Would've been rough to find someone to lockdown curry.
Lakers will never forget this beating.
Except for the shitty 2021-2022 season 😏
Man the Lakers were so pissed. Odom forearm shoved Nowitzki and Bynum elbowed Barea.
And Artest forgot how to dunk.
Fuck Bynum for that. Absolute bitch move he shoulda been thrown out of the league
@@ck675 His suspension was super light compared to what he did.
As a Lakers Fan, gotta give respect to the Mavericks for their playoff run, although I definitely would’ve been peed off with how the Zen Master’s career ended on a Whimper, plus the fact that we were coming off back-to-back titles.
6:04 mark Tyson Chandler just stopped and went back down to play D. Lol....
Lol he was like "he got it"
and that was the beginning of the collapse of the Lakers franchise! I don't know if they'll ever get back to the finals, maybe 10 years down the road?!

Best shooting all time game. Greetings from Serbia!
the Lakers were simply demolished and humiliated down to their spine by the Mavs on this series much more on this particular game!!
The Warriors before the Warriors
I feel so bad for Kobe, Pau Gasol and the Lakers. They did not deserve to lose this badly
Kobe is the reason they lost
Jason terry deserves his 31 retired.
Jack Azz Yes lol
Mario Vasquez he really did
i think this is automatic!. i hope so.
Yes he does dirk will have his go first
this series simply demolished the myth that phil jackson was the key to all of his championship rings as a coach. without the presence of dominant players such as shaq playing for him... his coaching has really no factor at all. kobe was unmasked too... clearly he cant carry his team when his big men aren't contributing.
His Knicks executive career also proves this.
Kobe is overrated lmao, he can't carry a team he needs big men rebounding his bricks.
wornoutshoes11 The Mavs dismantled everyone like the '04 Pistons, Kobe wasn't exposed, he was just outplayed. LeBron was exposed
wornoutshoes11 big w for the great truth.
Actually Kobe was injured pretty bad during this series
As of Feb 2014 Dirk' s already 24th on all time three point leaders.
That Dallas team was the start of the NBA turning into a 3 point shooting team
I remember watching this game. I couldn't believe what was happening..
*Before Steph and Klay, we have Peja and Jason :3*
And this is where the Jordan - Kobe comparisons end.
Jordan would have never been swept like this.
Pksoze he got swept by Terry Cummings
Yup that game ended the BLACK Mamba's reign
Kobe is overrated
Lmao this 2011 mavs team could prob sweep the bulls. This is the deepest team I’ve ever seen and I’m not even a Kobe fan. This team was just that goid
This game was SO great - only thing better was that the big 3 down in Miami didn’t win the championship in their first year together.
This game showed the warriors how to build a team in the new nba
I remember that game. So hype
From a DEVOTED LAKERS FAN, this 3 point shooting is just BEAUTIFUL & I LOVE when Terry runs his JET, but with the addition of Jason Kapono, & Great 3 point Shooter Like Artest, Kobe, & Fisher, This will Be Lakers shooting
um no
Kobe had no answer for this Dallas team. No one did that year
MJ never got blown out like this
2011 NBA finals
Mavericks 4 Lakers 0
Dallas swept Kobe Bryant who had home court advantage and favorite to win series
Goat 🐐 Jordan never got swept and blow out with home court advantage and favorite to win series
And people have the nerve to say they upset the Heat in the finals. That’s not true. They beat Kobe’s Lakers. Then beat the Thunder with Durant, Westbrook, and Harden. So it’s no shocker that they beat the Heat.
a smart man you are
This was actually so sad.
Personally I don't doubt the legacy of Kobe and Phil Jackson. But with so many players with nothing to lose and possibly there last shot at a championship.... they didn't care about your legacy. They only wanted the championship
This was imo the best part of this championshop run (besides winning ofc) watching the mavs blow the socks out of the defending champs and kobe was fucking awesome
What a great massacre. Lakers was haunted by this loss for so many years. It takes them to get Lebron to be able to go to playoffs again.
Don't care what y'all Laker haters say three straight finals appearances before this happened and game 1 and game 3 was in our pocket but congrats to the mavs and they fans respect from South Central Los Angeles California Laker fan from the 80s
They were firing all cylinders
One thing I've paid attention to since 2008, if the lakers lost to another team in the playoffs, then that team ended up either making the finals or winning the championship and it's happened in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2021. The Mavs won it all in 2011, the Thunder made it to the finals in 2012, same with the Spurs in 2013, and the Suns in 2021.
Add Nuggets this year
LeBron haters be like "Kobe would have never lost to that Mavericks team". Oh really?
not about losing, it’s was his performance that was really poor
CaptainSal Miami took them to six games while Lakers got swept by playing poor defense. There was no reason for the Mavs to keep having so many open shots like this.

The end of an Era
Smh I remember this like it was yesterday I was shocked bc I truly thought that the Lakers would be back in the finals to face the Heat but man was I wrong I knew this was the beginning of the end for Kobe & the Lakers.
Just imagine Luka Doncic was added to this 2010 - 2011 Mavs team. I know he was still a teenager at this point. But can you imagine?
Luka was 11-12 years old!
I'm nervous about the beginning of the 2012-2013 season... That DAL@LAL

Aminoddin Domado I’ll get you banned from TH-cam
fun fact deshawn stevenson got his ring before lbj in came thru the clutch alot for the mavs .
As a lakers fan. I’m rewatching the trauma that the mavericks gave to us. Now dealing with the nuggets doing the same 😢
You know, people give GSW all the credit for changing the game but I think the game was already starting to change here.
All my relatives are laker fans & they make fun of me for being a mavs fan. Mothers Day 2011 is a day I’ll never forget 😂
Kobe couldn't get his 3peat lmao love how everyone just brushes it under the rug since LeBron lost in the Finals
I wish i can rewatch this game in 4K UHD
Kobe’s 63 @ Mavs in just 3 quarters back in 2005 was nice, but this vengeance was even nicer
This is a shooting clinic!!❤🎉❤🎉❤
Yo peja is so deadly with those 3s 😯
This team really was one of those teams that changed the game.
Lakers never bounced back after this.
I'm a lakers fan and I was pretty mad when this happened but looking back I was like, "at least we lost to the eventual champions."
This game made phil Jackson retire.
Unfortunately it’s true & I’m a Laker fan
RIP Kobe

Peja and Jason Terry would be great for today’s NBA
never ever say kobe is the goat, he got swept being the back to back champ going for a 3peat
