- Mario Ritter Jr. and Ashley Thompson host the Learning English program for Friday, October 11, 2024.
(00:57) First we hear from Caty Weaver. She has a report on the powerful crime groups in Southeast Asia that use the messaging app Telegram widely. Investigators from the UN office on Drugs and Crime say stolen data - including credit card information, passwords and browser history - are openly traded on the app.
(5:47) Then, host Mario has a report on Han Kang, this year’s winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. The Swedish Academy’s Nobel Committee said the South Korean writer’s work “confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life.” Kang is the first South Korean to win the literature prize.
(10:16) Next it is time for Everyday Grammar. This week, Jill Robbins introduces phrasal verbs. English learners face the difficulty of learning a large number of English phrasal verbs. Jill explains their history and gives some helpful advice on how to spot and use these verbs.
(17:53) Jill then joins Mario to talk more about why phrasal verbs are especially difficult for some English learners.
(20:32) Finally, we present the Lesson of the Day from Andrew Smith and Jill Robbins. Today they take a closer look at Lessons 32 and 33 of the Let’s Learn English series. The focus is on agents and -er endings.
Mario and Ashley close the show.
