G-Ma X because “sisterlocs” are a trademarked brand. The technique of interlocking is similar to that of sisterlocs, but I don’t have sisterlocs because my hair was not done by a sisterlocs consultant✨
Young lady please appreciate the time and devotion your mom put into installing and up keeping these beautiful Microlocs. If you would've went to a salon it would've been $250-400 easily. If your mom ask you to bring her a glass of water even if she standing in the kitchen, get up and do it😊
My mother wouldn't have even attempted. She would've told me I better find a professional to pay because she's not about to spend all day plus trying to do my hair.
Hey there !!! First , let me congratulate you on starting your Loc journey!!! Your mom did an ah-may-zing job!!! I also installed my loc's via two strand twists ( It took me 3 weeks to do it all by myself!!!) And you are absolutely right about interlocking your two strand twists to make sure the loc is set and does not start marrying into other locs at the roots. Initially, it will take a while to re-tighten your loc's. But, after a while, the process gets faster and easier to do. I have a bit over 400 locs that I re-tighten just about once a month, and it takes me about two days ( working about 4 hours per day ). I can tell you now, you are really going to enjoy your loc's when they start to fill out and look more like loc's. And the wonderful thing about the size you guys decided on... you are going to be able to style your hair just about the same way you were able to do with your loose natural hair. Only difference being, you will never again have to worry about combing and detangling or having another bad hair day ever again!!! Congratulations , and thank you for sharing your journey with us!!!
I have 3 daughters ages 17, 13, and 12.. I took them to a loctician and started with sisterlocs ..it cost me about $2000 to do all three....I started retightening myself a few months in...they are now 2 years in and every 6-8weeks I do retightenings....their locs grew so much...I dont mind spending the time to do it..I also used 4 point rotation...I've saved so much money over the past two years...no regrets....
Yup these look very similar sisterlock! I had sisterlocks installed but i dumped my loctician and have been doing it myself. It's definitely doable. I don't care about using thier specific SL method. I get compliments on my hair all the time and I look damn good 💪💅
@@Thatwomanwith6kids and a sl tool that they try their damness to keep a secret. It's mainly the tool and the same 4pt loc rotation. I have sister locs
For the ladies who are just seeing this video, Amazon hasa loc kit with several sizes of the tool in one packet for $8-$10 and TyKara your hair looks great! You mom is awesome for being supportive and helping you keep the maintenance of your locs up
Your hair is glorious. I love my mom and she tried her best with my hair as a kid but sadly we didn't have access to all this hair knowledge on social media that people coming up in this generation have. My edges came out (the actual hair follicles) and they will never be coming back. My self -esteem and confidence all are impacted. They way I see myself, the way I let people see me or who I let come close to me, all of that is impacted. So yes, your mom is a gold mine you don't know you have. Give her hugs and kisses, always forgive her and love her absolutely unconditionally. 🍩🍩🍩
Your mom is doing a great job. I didn't install my daughter's locs but I do maintain them. Purchase a quilting needle for $0.99 (2pack) at a crafting store like Micheal's or Hobby Lobby. Stretch the eye of the needle at the base and curve it to make it easy to work with smaller locs. I keep a pouch of them for the 3 heads I do at my house, both plastic and metal. Beautiful hair BTW!
Such a wonderful mother, my mom did my box braids all the way to my booty lol, an it took 3 days. Please appreciate your mother, mines is gone now but watching this bring back memories. Beautiful locs as well
Your mom is the whip. She did an AMAZING job on reti. "I see you girl..lol" your hair fresh 🔥🔥🔥🔥Ask your mom if she's going to take the sisterlock class. The more your mom does your reti, the faster she'll get. Before you know it, reti sessions will 2 to 3 hours
Hi there. I’ve had my sisterlocks for almost 3 years. Your hair looks amazing, your mom is amazing lol. One thing I would recommend is to separate your hair at the root after the wash to avoid marrying at the root.
beautiful locks...Ive watched all your videos...i was researching micro locks b\c i didn't know how small i wanted them to be...im doing mine myself. My daughters have had sisterlocks for three years that I started and they were small like that. I started there's with micro braids, then started interlocking. I got sick and started letting them go to a locticion to do it....A NO NO!!! there locks started getting bigger. Now im back on it and and Im combing my locks out.7 months in and will do the microlock installation. Looking forward to your next video. You have a cool mom!!
Thank you for sharing,I’ve had mines for 1 year and 1 month and I just installed my cousins and have to show her how to to the touch up,now that you made this video I just sent it to her. Your video is absolutely helpful
This journey must allow for a lot of bonding time between you and your mom💛 lol. What an awesome mom for spending this much time for you to have amazing hair!
I've found that using a latch hook tool for the smaller locs are go-to and it helped me with holes and such since I did the 4-point interlock rotation. Best wishes to you and your journey.
If been doing the interlocking technique on mine for ten years I use a basic $1.00 small latchhook needle. I NEVER let mine get to a place where I have to do them all in one sitting. I do twenty to thirty every week/week and a half so I don’t have them look unkept. I’m older now an due to medical an internal health reasons, color choices etc, my Locs are thinning in my crown (breaking my heart) I have cut and taken my hairline and top loose an will be starting a new set by January for my new journey as coming soon. You have inspired me to go from. Sister to Micro Locs. Thanks for sharing your journey.
This reminds me If how my mom would sit and do micros for me in. HS. Definitely not this small but same love and effort. Beautiful memories. Moms are amazing!
Lololol! I knew it was going to take that long considering how many locs you have. Your mom has done an awesome job! I always like to divide my interlocking into 2 days so it won't seem overwhelming since I do mine myself.
Your hair is beautiful! And your mother did a fabulous job! My hair is not locked but I enjoyed watching your video as well as the love and care your mother had while doing your hair.
🍩My mom and I are starting our loc journey and this had been super helpful. I've just completed my first interlock session and I'll be interlocking her next week. your videos have really helped us get this done! Thanks.
Your mon did a great job you can go to Walmart buy the yarn needle and alter to the length you for you edges or order the oraje the olocker tool the micro size I use the same one you it’s my fab and I also the o Locker also the lock key is a good one for the short locks hope that helps ...
Good job, check out Oraje O locker tool, there is a micro size that may be helpful. It may take less time going forward. Your Mom did a great job! Keep us posted.
I did my own and my moms. I maintain both of our heads. It takes me about 5 hours to retighten my moms, and all day to do my own. For our edges I had the same issue. I found a video of a girl who got a large needle I believe it's a tapestry needle. You cut it down and take a screw driver and widen the eye of the needle to accommodate the loc. It works well and I use this to do the entire retightening now. Hope this helps.
Your mom did a great job. That interlocking tool is a little on the large side. I was going to initially order it when I was prepping to install my microlocks but went with the nappylocks tool in the small size instead because I felt that it helped to glide through my hair easier.
The same way that you talked about braiding the ends, I also did a couple of braid stitches at the base. I'm so glad I found your videos. I'm starting the same kind of locs on my 10 year old in a few months so she will love your videos!
Girl the beauty supply store was selling that same lock tool for 1.99 for a pack of 10. I asked the asian lady if she knew what they were. She answerd, "BOBBY PINS" ...I laughed so loud🤣
Your mama is awesome! I’m the same way with my girls. I thought once they got old enough to do their own hair I was done. Wrong! I still find myself up late braiding my daughters hair and she appreciates it because the salons never do it like she likes it. Your hair looks beautiful and I really want to do this to mine. Just the time sitting to keep it up I’m exhausted already lol
I got the same tool! And it takes me about 10 hours to do my retightening too, which I hope will improve, but if it doesn't, I need to find a loctician. Btw you slightly misspelled "business inquiries" in your bio. Much love.
I interlocked my whole head and i my locs will still marry at the roots. I learned to avoid this you'll want to just separate each individual lock after each wash.
I love your journey so far!!! Your hair is GAWJUS!!! 😍😍😍 I can’t believe I’m coming up on my one year with SLs. Started my own reties next month. Keep the vids coming! Very inspirational 😊 glazed donut 🍩 😋
Hi TyKara! I have a question regarding your reti. In this video you all used a 3-9, 6-12, 9-3, 12-6 rotation but in your more recent reti videos you all use a 3-9, 12-6, 9-3, 6-12 rotation (of course following the rotation through and still ending with 12-6 so the loc lays properly) Was there any particular reason for the switch? Do you find the latter rotation direction to work better somehow for you? Thank you so much for sharing your journey. ❤️
No, there is no difference that I can see yet. She just uses the clock rotation for guidance, but she also does what's best for the loc. For example, if the loc doesn't look like its "closing" or looking solid, she will try to get the loose hairs to form within the loc....if that made any sense 😂 She's not a loctician, this is all an experiment.
Glazed donut. I have worn mini 2 strand twists multiple times for months at a time. I’m seriously considering installing sister locs now after watching your videos.
Yay so happy for you...I’m contemplating getting either sisterlocs or microlocs you gotta get the easyloc tool from amazon 😃 it will make a huge difference 👌🏾 I’m looking forward to both of your journeys
I'm seriously going to start mine October 1st! You have given me motivation, but I don't think I would do as many, because my hair is shorter and more coarse.
Loved your video. Microlocks look nice. Mom did a great job! You might need a London lock tool or a nappy lock tool. They are smaller and shaped different from the one you have.
Glazed donut but I used a bobby pin I wasn’t spending 40 on a lil tool lol but it does speed up the process I went from 14 hours to 8 hours for a retwist
Looks beautiful on you. Mom did a good job, but I couldn’t.. traditional all the way..this takes too long for me.. excellent video though. I’m interested to see your progression.
You can also use the crochet/knitting sewing needle. Break it in half to your desired length when it comes to your edges. Very inexpensive. Like $1.29 for 4 needles. Wal-Mart, Micheals, hobby lobby etc. Crafting stores.
Just finding your videos, you are super cute. Your mom is a beast!!!! She did an amazing job!!!! She deserves all the hugs and kisses and flowers and cheesecake!
This is why I only have traditional/sister locs. Lol they are beautiful but it takes forever to retighten. It takes me three days alone to retire in my hair so I couldn't imagine if I had gone through with the micro locs
Aquarius locs I knowwww!! I’m trying to learn how to do it by myself as well. The only thing I’m worried about is being able to see in the back of my head and making sure I don’t combine locs🙃
@@TyKaraAnn yeah that's a big one. When I first started doing it myself I made a couple mistakes 😫. But managed to correct them over time. however with micro Locs if you make a mistake it's way more damaging to the loc 😰
My hair would be so knitted up at the roots. I have four little girls with natural hair that I do myself. I just can not imagine spending this much time on my own hair despite how beautiful your microlocs are.
The nappy tool can not be purchased from England and it can be to big for some of the hair, I used a wool darning needle cut it down and smoothed with a nail file. Also i used a metal hoop needle with a plastic hoop at the end. You can buy this in the knitting needle section
FIRST INTERLOCKING SESSION!!!!

Loved your video. Microlocks look nice. Mom did a great job! You might need a London lock tool or a nappy lock tool. They are smaller and shaped different from the one you have.
sonja wright thank you 😊
Glaze donut! I'm laughing at the absolute last thing you said when you tried to end the video too! 🤣🤣🤣 You're just adorable. #NewSubscriber
💓
“Glazed Donut”..... Your mom did an amazing job.... And your hair looks beautiful.
jmarie1719 thank you so much!!!!
Glaze donut ☺️ I enjoyed the video, congratulations on your new journey.
I love that tool ♥️ i started my locs with it and it made the process so smooth.
Danielle Clayton yes i love it!
Here watching
You can also use the crochet/knitting sewing needle. Break it in half to your desired length when it comes to your edges. Very inexpensive. Like $1.29 for 4 needles. Wal-Mart, Micheals, hobby lobby etc. Crafting stores.
Zoey McGauley ok thank you!!!
You're welcome, hunni! Enjoy your loc journey!
Inspirational 🖤🖤🖤 I will be starting my journey soon, with my daughter
Yayyy! I’m excited for y’all 💞
Your hair is so beautiful!!!!! I want to do this!!!
Tracye Carter thanks!
You can use a small crochet needle or hair pin as a tool
And please use a satin pillowcase and head scarf to keep cotton fibers out of your hair
Arlene Bostic-Clarke ok, thank you!!
Avoid using to much products as this cause fibers to stick to the hair
What you eat grow your hair ..... my opinion 👍
Arlene Bostic-Clarke thank you! I have been straying away from using the rose water. I usually only moisturize my hair once a week now.
Your hair looks great and mom did such a great job!
j21589m thank you!
I used that tool for installation and will for my first retightening on 2nd Jan. Way to go to your mum, awesome job. Wish my mum would haha
thank you!!!
Thanks for the videos. I am about to install microlocs on my daughter.
no problem!
Just finding your videos, you are super cute. Your mom is a beast!!!! She did an amazing job!!!! She deserves all the hugs and kisses and flowers and cheesecake!
Thank you so much!!
Great job. Try the O Locker tool, they have several sizes, which could help
msshalle thank you! I plan on ordering it tomorrow✨
Amazing. Did yiu find a smaller thinner tool for your edges??
Best interlocked dreads I’ve ever seen. And I hate them. But watching ur hair is relaxing
Aquarius locs 😭
On your edges you can try using just your fingers to interlock.
How long do you wait for your next interlock? There Beautiful by the way. Job well done by your mom!
Every 6 weeks or so♥️
My hair would be so knitted up at the roots.
Partrisha Gillett thank you! I’m in need of some alternatives!
