It's because the kids who grew up idolising second generation (which is the first generation that got kpop international recognition and success, e.g. TVXQ, Big Bang, Girls Generation, Kara, Wonder girls etc) are now in their late teens so obviously there are way more teenagers wanting to become idols than a decade ago, and the kpop market has been keep growing & and doesn't seem to stop and thus making a lot of $$$ so setting up a music label has become a valid option for businesspeople and big companies not just music producers to make profit. Aaand to create maximum profit it's better to produce one group with many members than multiple groups with 3-5 members. The fans are gonna stan them (aka spend money on them) either way if theres a member they like in the group/s and making multiple different sets of costumes, concepts, albums is pointless and wasting money.
