Fantastic instructional video on making a stuff sack. Thanks for putting this together. I was having an issue trying to figure out the bottom hand hold before seeing this video. This video really cleared up everything.
Last night I decided I was going to sew a couple of stuff sacks for our military bivy sacks. Today I was surfing youtube searching other info and found this video. Your video is excellent, thank you!! You've given me help to avoid mistakes I might have made since I've never sewing a flat felled seam before!! You made it look simple. PS. It looks like you have a Craftsman's magnetic bowl for straight pins... awesome, if that's what it is!
It's a bit of a SWAG but what you can do is put your item into a pillow sack and pin it down until it's the size you want. This will give you a good idea of how big around you need. but make it longer than you think you need. The square bottom takes up quite a bit of fabric, you can cut down the top to the appropriate lenght just before you make the draw string channel.
I set it quite low, somewhere around 1- 1.5. I also iron it on a piece of wood so it takes a crease a little better, and I think the wood acts as a heat sink too so the nylon doesn't get too hot.
Try gluing your seams with 3M super 77 adhesive before you sew them. You don't have to clip or pin your seams. Just a light brushing of spray of glue and your good to stitch away with out wording about pulling pins or slipping clips.
How do you know what size to make it? I want to make a fleece bed for my dog , but I want to have a stuff sack small enough for him to carry on his own pack.
+Derpiest Derper Thanks DD. If what you're asking about is just a roll top bag or something similar it shouldn't be too hard, sealing to be completely dry would be the hardest part I'd imagine.

I tried this once and failed, thanks for the demo.

I'm not too sure what the dimensions were, something like 18"x26" IIRC?? But this process works for just about any size bag you want.
thanks so much for the help
+Sue Campbell My pleasure.

@MrPoppabear255 Thank you Poppabear. Hope you put the info to good use. :~)
Awesome video! Now I just have to get a sewing machine. lol How easy would it be to make one of the modern kind of dry bags that bikepackers use?

Thank you kindly sir!
You're welcome. :)
@ChickenWingHammocks Thanks Chickenwing, I'm glad you found it helpful.
What material did you use?
Re: Ironing silnylon. What temperature/fabric do you set your iron on?
LOW! Use a sample piece to test your iron so you don't melt the material. Some iron settings can be off.
@MrHatManS Good luck on the next one. Hope this helps.
That is sil-nylon.
