Nobody in the Portugal team cared about anything else, no route to goal, just possession and eventually penalties, we all thought getting to penalties was going to be the hard part but we forgot that penalties aren’t a given and that we actually have to score to advance. If we were going to loose anyway we might as well have gone to hell with possession, pressured our chances and taken those corners well.
The truth is that our national team played 5 games at the Euro's with 10 players on the field. Thank you to them for making it this far, Pepe was a beast, Dias/Vitinha/Palhinha/Mendes/Costa all had great tournaments, especially Vitinha, by far our best player. You are right, France is the team to beat cause they truly are unbeaten for the past 8 years in tournements, they did loose to Portugal at the last minute in extra time in 2016 but otherwise they only lost in penalties, switzerland freak accident from being way too relaxed in 2021(which I think made them way stronger, cause they really dont underestimate, loose focus anymore) and the final against argentina, btw loosing in penalties shoot out is not considered a loss in the rules of the game, it is just a way of "declaring" a winner, but in FIFA rulebook it is a draw which makes sense since the old way of having a winner was to play another match which is impossible now with tv and so many games and delays that would happen.

@@JoseAbreuu here’s the problem, the game plan from the first minute was : get this match to penalties, Costa would handle it. Nobody in the Portugal team cared about anything else, no route to goal, just possession and eventually penalties, we all thought getting to penalties was going to be the hard part but we forgot that penalties aren’t a given and that we actually have to score to advance. If we were going to loose anyway we might as well have gone to hell with possession, pressured our chances and taken those corners well.
The truth is that our national team played 5 games at the Euro's with 10 players on the field. Thank you to them for making it this far, Pepe was a beast, Dias/Vitinha/Palhinha/Mendes/Costa all had great tournaments, especially Vitinha, by far our best player.
And please stop with the "Ronaldo put us on the map", we had phenomenal talent before/during and after his tenure. He's been great, but its time to hangup the international boots, like last year. His attitude and presence is no longer needed on this team.
