This Galician-Portuguese poetry was composed between the 12th -14th centuries. It was written in the vernacular of the people and the main themes were those of love and work. Originally, this poetry had been transmitted orally from generation to generation. Later on, troubadours and minstrels incorporated those themes into their own compositions, which boosted Galician-Portuguese as a language of great literature. This poetry was also influenced by poetry from Occitan literature which travelled along the Camino de Santiago. Most famous amongst those who championed the language were Martín Codax, Mendinho, Airas Nunes, Alfonso X “The Wise” and Don Denís.
Around the same time, the Leabhar Gabhála Éireann (The Book of Invasions of Ireland) was compiled. This text consists of a mixture of mythology, pseudo-history, folklore and Christian historiography. The Irish accepted this account as their history even as late as the eighteenth century.
This manuscript, written in medieval Irish, relates how, on a clear winter´s night Ith was on top of a tower which Breoghán (his father) had built in a place called Brigantia. The Galician people consider Breoghán to be the father of their nation and as such is recognized in the Galician anthem. From the top of the tower, Ith saw an island and determined to seek it, sailed out to sea with his son Lughaidh and several warriors.

I only discovered Luar na Lubre on a trip to Galicia from my native Ireland last week. I come from the west of Ireland, very similar in music to that of Galicia and was more than pleasantly surprised to find this group and their music.

Golamb (Mil), nieto de Breogán y sobrino de Ith organiza un potente ejército, prepara varias naves y embarca rumbo a Irlanda. Una vez allí, tienen lugar cruentas batallas, quedando derrotadas y sometidas las primitivas tribus irlandesas. Se dice que la razón del triunfo estuvo en que mientras los irlandeses luchaban con espadas de bronce, los soldados de Mil lo hacían con sus poderosas armas de hierroLos auténticos conquistadores de Irlanda no fueron los celtas de Bretaña, como algunos han sostenido, sino que fueron los celtas de Gallaecia (Galicia).
Golamb (Mil), grandson of Breogán and nephew of Ith organizes a powerful army, prepares several ships and embarks for Ireland. Once there, bloody battles take place, the primitive Irish tribes being defeated and subdued. It is said that the reason for the triumph was that while the Irish fought with bronze swords, the soldiers of Mil made it with their powerful iron weapons. The authentic conquerors of Ireland were not the Celts of Britain, as some have maintained, but were the Celts of Gallaecia (Galicia).

@@jos5440 Los Milesios llegaron a Irlanda procedentes de Galicia para vengar la muerte de Ith (hijo de Breogán), un explorador que fue asesinado por tres de los Reyes de los Tuatha Dé Danann, los dioses irlandeses; Mac Cuill, Mac Cecht y Mac Gréine. Al llegar a tierra y pisar por primera vez con el pie derecho la Isla, Amergin entonó un himno, conocido como "La canción de Amergin". Las tres reinas de los Tuatha Dé Dannan, (Banba, Ériu y Fódla), dieron permiso a Amergin y su gente para asentarse en Irlanda. Cada una pidió que la Isla fuera nombrada en su honor; a lo cual Amergin accedió, Ériu se convirtió en el nombre principal de la isla, actualmente llamada Éire en gaélico Irlandés, y Banba y Fódla son nombres poéticos que se le dan a la isla, así como Albión para Inglaterra.
Empero, los Milesios tenían que ganar el reinado de la Isla en una batalla con los Reyes Irlandeses, sus Druidas y guerreros. Los Milesios aceptaron dejar la isla y alejarse nueve olas de distancia (una barrera mágica) antes de regresar a pelear. Pero, al haber alcanzado las distancia convenida, los Druidas de los Dé Dannan, invocaron una mágica tormenta para mantenerlos a raya y que no pudieran desembarcar de nuevo. Amergin realizó entonces la "Invocación de Irlanda" para derrotar la magia de los Dé Dannan y poder llegar a tierra con bien. Después de una feroz batalla, donde los Reyes Irlandeses fueron muertos en combates cuerpo a cuerpo con tres de los hijos de Mil, Eber Finn, Éremón y el mismísimo Amergin, los Milesios triunfaron. Amergin dividió la tierra entre sus dos hermanos, Eber tomando el sur y Éremón el norte. Los Tuatha Dé Dannan, se retiraron al Otro Mundo, volviéndose parte de la gente de los Áes Shíde (Hadas).
Los Poemas de Amergin tienen similitudes con los del druida Taliesin, dentro de la mitología de Gales.

@@julesverne4629 : totalmente de acuerdo,xq es la verdad. Casi todo Portugal fue celta o de costumbres celtas , excepto en el sur donde vivían los tartesos, procedentes de Grecia, según todos los indicios.
En lo que a mi respecta, Portugal,es un pueblo hermano ,de hecho el mayor hermano que tenemos en España. No existe otra tierra tan similar,ni étnicamente,ni en paisajes, religión, idioma...(es que el portugués se comprende sin ni siquiera haberlo estudiado)...En resumen, que no deberíamos ser dos pueblos,si no uno sólo (y ninguno x encima del otro!).
