Three legends of music. I just love Emmylou Harris. Too me, her voice is like a sweet instrument that can play with anyone. She was always so willing to duet with other artist, and, of course as a trio with Dolly and Linda. Thanks for the reaction!
Just the most perfect trio ever. Each one has a magically beautiful voice, and together…it’s like you’re floating up to heaven. On their album, each takes the lead on different songs, and within songs. It’s such a gorgeous album.
Still have a huge crush on Linda, absolutely love Emmylou, and admire Dolly to no end. Each one icons of music regardless of genre, but together legendary. It's as if they were born to sing with each other.
Their voices move me every time. Each had well established careers when they met and were quite surprised at what they had when they sang together. I wasn't. Thanks for sharing this lovely gem, Beth.
These three women were my singing goddesses in the late 70s and 80s and when they made this album I almost lost my mind. As a Trio, they'll never be beat. 😎
Three lovely voices with a beautiful song...can't go wrong. I was introduced to Linda in 1967 with Different Drum by her and the Stone Ponies.. have been a huge fan ever since. Dolly and Emmylou are equal classics. Thanks! 😊
Thank you Beth! Willie Nelson once said there are two types of men, those who are in love with Linda and those who have no idea who she is! I love all four of you women! Music is everything.
Emmylou Harris has made an incredibly successful career as a backing vocalist. She has had a few very strong singles as a solo but the list of people she has collaborated with over the decades is unmatched by anyone.
Actually, Mountain Music style, the original "Country Music." Grand Ole Opry in the early to mid 20th Century featured this style before all the rhinestones, guitars, and Nashville glitz sounds took over the genre. It's Dolly's music, descended directly from the Scottish immigrants' music. That's why it's so similar to the music of Scotland, right down to the specific songs themselves.
An amazing performance from three total legends. I grew up listening to Linda so tend to gravitate more towards her, but love them all. Thanks for doing this!
The entire *Trio* album is a gift; hard to believe that it's been thirty-six years since it was released. They also recorded a wonderful cover of *To Know Him Is To Love Him* Album - th-cam.com/video/IRBZN8V2Fa4/w-d-xo.html Live - th-cam.com/video/TC-d2AkPqcE/w-d-xo.html
Actually, this song appeared on Linda Ronstadt’s “Prisoner in Disguise” album, released in 1975, long before the Trio albums. It’s a lovely performance regardless. 🌺✌️
It was a halo... You are so right concerning there are times that you don't know who has the lead line. That is vocal perfection when that occurs. I consider Linda one of the best background singers ever. She has the pipes to blow most singers off the stage, but she is more concerned about finding the best blend.
I grew up listening to country when I was really young. Now, and for many decades, I'm a metalhead. But Emmylou Harris is still my favorite female vocalist. This is an amazing collaboration though, by three ladies who kind of defined the genre during that time.
Thanks, Beth. Wonderful trio. All three are a pleasure as solo artists but together they are gangbusters. I agree: Linda sounds great no matter the genre. Can't wait to hear Dolly's new rock album upon release.
This was from the dolly Parton show. I liked how dolly gave the first solo to Linda. I liked also Emmy Lou harmonizing. Beth, if you want to hear more Emmy Lou, listen to the trio albums.
When Linda first started out she had to follow Emmylou one night and she was pretty terrified because when she heard Emmylou sing she thought "she sounds like I want to sound"..so in a way Emmylou gave Linda her sound, or at least helped her push her voice to the next level. Oh and Emmylou is gorgeous and plays and writes..so pretty intimidating.
If you want a great performance of Emmylou in her prime, search out her bit on the Martin Scorsese masterpiece, The Last Waltz". A tribute piece to"The Band. Other high quality recordings of her live performances are also plentiful.
I'm not a subscriber, though I was for quite a while. These 3 ladies can sing anything and blend beautifully. I don't know if you have listened to a song Emmylou and Willie Nelson recorded for Emmy's duet album, but it is beautiful and her voice SOARS! It's called "Gulf Coast Highway" in case you'd like to listen to it.
Love them all but Emmylou is just from another plane. Her voice is heaven itself, she can take anything she sings to the next level even when you thought that was impossible.
Emmylou said 'impossible to record Trio. Me and Linda would turn up and do 6 takes. Dolly, would take a break from her schedule, drop into the studio, nail her take in one, and kiss us goodbye':
Imagine employing 2 interior decorators to collaborate and that's the miracle of Dolly and Linda - it's perfect. Then Emmylou steps in and finds a way to subtly make the design even more cohesive. Because it is such a rare talent she becomes type-cast as an ancillary. Whilst she may not have been as commercially successful as Linda or Dolly IMO Emmylou has equal standing.
I luv these gals! I grew up hearing barbershop quartet (my grampa & friends in the living room) .. & always as an adult loved hearing voices harmonizing! My mom sang alot too, & as a teen when Trio had their first cd(or tape when we got it), it was so great! We'de sing with them in the car, loud!😂❤ Thank you for making this, I enjoyed your input alot! (if you haven't discoved Kongero, though they sing in a different language, 'kling klang' may interest you .. all vocal & pretty, as well as unusual😉)
Thank you for this wonderful reminder. If only for your own enjoyment, listen to the duet of Emmylou with Bonnie Raitt on Icy Blue Heart and Patti Griffin with harmony of Emmylou on Long Ride Home. Then, be consoled by Bonnie's rendition of Baby Mine. Your Wicked Game is superb.

Seeing your most recent review, you might want to check out Linda Ronstadt and her Mexican songs on Canciones De Mi Padre. She does mariachi and ranchero style songs.
Another two artists, who though less lauded, certainly IMO, belong in this company. One is the late great Nanci Griffith. Great song writer, whose songs were covered by many other artists, a great singer with a truly appealing stage presence, many other artists collaborated with her, (including Emmylou Harris). I've included a TH-cam link to one of her most famous songs "Love at the Five and Dime". th-cam.com/video/2GK462XnRjQ/w-d-xo.html The other is the late great Kate McGarrigle, again a great song writer and singer, who performed in a duo with her sister Anna, again many other artists covered the McGarrigle's songs, (including Linda Ronstadt who had great commercial success with "Heart Like a Wheel"). I've included a link to Kate's song "Talk to me of Mendocino" th-cam.com/video/V7KsDv1K8-k/w-d-xo.html Certainly both these singers belong in the genre "Americana", though Nanci christened her music "Folkabilly".
Further to my post above, here is a TH-cam link to Linda Ronstadt singing "Mendocino" with Kate and Anna McGarrigle. As always, the harmonies are delicious, what a tragic loss that Kate was lost to Cancer, R.I.P. th-cam.com/video/E4QSl5u3ofM/w-d-xo.html&start_radio=1
I saw Linda live in the 80's 3 times. She was wonderful even in a large venue. But seeing Emmy Lou at a club was the best ever. I had most of her albums & was nervous that she might sound different in person but she was perfect & didn't miss a note. This was in Houston & she joked that when she played at Gilley's the year before it was like playing in a big souveneir shop with a band haha. She obviously preferred the intimate setting too. My greatest disappointment was Fleetwood Mac. They were terrible, even Stevie. Love your reactions.
I found it interesting that you thought Emmylou Harris sounded like Joni Mitchell. On Harris' first 'disowned' album Gliding Bird, her admiration for Ms Mitchell is almost embarrassingly obvious.
I have to disagree with one thing you said and that may be that you aren't familiar enough to know that there's only one Queen Of Country and that's Loretta Lynn. If you haven't listened to her yet,be prepared because she has a massive discography. You will hear lots of song suggestions for her, but in my opinion there's only one song to introduce you to Ms Loretta and that's Coal Miner's Daughter. Follow that up with You Ain't Woman Enough To Take My Man and Fist City. Start yourself there and you will have lain a firm groundwork to explore her career. She was quite a little pistol who never backed down from anyone or anything. RIP Ms Loretta, you will always loved, respected and missed
Before I listen to the coach permit me to say....IF ANYONE DISRESPECTS THESE 2 LOVELY SINGERS OR MY AUNT I may be forced to huntcha down you sigogglin poke of 'possum on the halfshell. Ok, press play and plz continue.
This collaboration was pure gold, Linda and Emmylou have been friends for decades. All 3 artist respect and admire each other and it shows.
Three legends of music. I just love Emmylou Harris. Too me, her voice is like a sweet instrument that can play with anyone. She was always so willing to duet with other artist, and, of course as a trio with Dolly and Linda. Thanks for the reaction!
Emmylou was "Angel Eyes"

I have a huge crush on Beth, an auburn headed Scottish Goddess!!!!
@@bordercollie1140 DITTO LOL
Three beautiful ladies, three beautiful solo performers, beautiful three part harmony.
Each one sounds like an angel on her own.... together, indescribably beautiful. Best trio ever IMO. And yes, Dolly is the Queen Of Country.😊
Their voices move me every time. Each had well established careers when they met and were quite surprised at what they had when they sang together. I wasn't. Thanks for sharing this lovely gem, Beth.

For me Linda Rondstadt is the best female vocalist of the last fifty to sixty years
There's a purity to her voice - you only need to hear one note to know it's LInda.
They are the top three for me, but I give Emmylou a slight edge,
Emmylou has a voice like a musical instrument ❤️❤️
Thank you Beth! Willie Nelson once said there are two types of men, those who are in love with Linda and those who have no idea who she is! I love all four of you women! Music is everything.
I thought he said that about Emmylou?

It was about Linda.
@@Wiley_Coyote it was really about Mary Jane😉☮️

Emmylou Harris has made an incredibly successful career as a backing vocalist. She has had a few very strong singles as a solo but the list of people she has collaborated with over the decades is unmatched by anyone.
When these ladies sing, they sing to my soul. They bring me to tears with the tight and gorgeous harmonies. So beautiful.
Beth thanks SO MUCH for reviewing this song. I am a great Linda fan!

Absolutely beautiful, I'm a fan of Emmy's but the three of them sound wonderful together. As always thanks Beth.
The queens! Linda Rondstadt is my fav but I love all three and they do such an amazing job together.
An amazing performance from three total legends. I grew up listening to Linda so tend to gravitate more towards her, but love them all. Thanks for doing this!
Dolly is the spice performance. This performance is so beautifully sung.
This gives me chills, and bring a tear to my eyes
When I hear Emmylou time stops for a moment and everything is right in the world.
The entire *Trio* album is a gift; hard to believe that it's been thirty-six years since it was released.

I bought that in a cassette and I wore it out from playing it non stop. Every song was great
The best voices we'll hear in this lifetime!
My dream team of singers is Beth Roars, Elizabeth (the Charismatic Voice) and Lolli (The fairy voice mother).
I love Emmylous voice and the way she sings, so do you please tell us how she does it.
I'd love to see an Emmylou Harris reaction.

There's yet another gorgeous duet of Gulf Coast Highway, with Nanci Griffith -- who wrote the song -- and Mac McAnally, who is worth his own reaction.
Emmylou Harris came to our high school and performed in 1975. No one knew who she was. We definitely found out later who she was . Great memory
I love Linda Ronstadt
She's amazing ❤
Love them all but Emmylou is just from another plane. Her voice is heaven itself, she can take anything she sings to the next level even when you thought that was impossible.
I love it !!! Thank yoy Beth ❤
heavenly harmonies
Dolly may be the queen of country now ... Linda has been the "Queen of Rock" long long before, and forever !

Linda recorded a solo version of this on her album "Prisoner in Disguise". It's beautiful as well.
Emmylou sang with her on the album
That was beautiful!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Wrecking Ball is an under-appreciated gem that Emmylou put out years ago. It remains one of my favorite albums of all time.
Their album TRIO (1987) is a must have. Legends all three.
Glorious.
Listen to TRIO. All three are fabulous
Dolly obviously likes singing in powerhouse trios...you can see her, Loretta Lynn, and Tammy Wynette as well in some great TH-cam videos.
The album is called, "Honky Tonk Angels." I have that album & both Trio albums.
Linda Ronstadt is the greatest, most diverse female vocalist of her generation.
This is so wonderfull❤

Actually,The Sweetest Gift was recorded by Linda and Emmylou for Linda's Heart Like A Wheel LP.They heard the Seldom Scene perform the song.

Don't often hear Dolly singing the low part. 🙂
Have you heard an angel sing? Yes. Yes, I have.
I've heard three.
That was wonderful but way too short. Such great talent.
It was because of Emmylou Harris that I started giving country music a listen.
You should do Emmylou Harris, Boulder to Birmingham too I think "The old grey whistle test" version is the best
THE BEST.
Only in heaven will there be better singing.
Great as usual. I would like to recommend you The Warning, they are really something all their songs are great.

You can hear Dolly's 'shmile' right through it. She makes 's' into 'sh'.
I agree this was too short. I wanted it to go on.
Queen of Country is Loretta Lyne!!!!!
I would really love to see you react to any song of Infant Annihilator :D
Even opera in Pirates of Penzance (sp)
In my opinion, no better female singer in Linda Ronstadt ever, in addition to the things, Beth mentioned, she also does light opera
Linda Rondstadt was diagnosed in 2013 with Parkinson's Disease and can no longer sing. What a great loss.
Emmy Lou Harris is divine. For a different type of song try her "Here I Am". Sultry, sultry, sultry.
Also judy collins- going soon with him-rides the rodeo...
