So, let me get this straight. Alexa uses my wi-fi (internet) connection for the phone calls and texts, NOT my cell phone's cellular connection, right? If my cell phone was off, I could still place voice calls from Alexa (data going over internet)?

Thats my conclusion as well. The echo dot can't make a normal simple call from your contact list. If you ask me this device is not very useful at all.

OK, I paired my cell phone with Alexa and my contact lists. I can make Alexa send phone calls, but can't receive incoming calls. I ask "Alexa, answer phone call". She responds "there are no incoming calls" when my phone is ringing. How do I fix this?

The contacts are what’s on your gmail account. Login in to gmail on a computer and see what’s there, you may have to export from your phone and import them into gmail.

You can do that by calling customer service - the number is 1-877-375-9365 - giving them your account details, and then asking them to turn the system off.

Great video. Wanting to get this set up for my great aunt who is living by herself and we want her to be able to call for help if she falls or something. She lived with my grandma until she passed away so now she isn't living with anybody and we want to make sure she is safe. Thanks for the video.

Far as I know these devices are self contained and 3 party apps don’t work some features mostly IFTTT or approve home automated gadgets

Useless function. They should have made possible a bluetooth or wifi connection with the mobile to access to normal calls. Right now it's just useless.

No Sir...you cannot connect the echo dot only using your cell as a hot spot. You have to use 2 devices that are compatible with the Alexa app. I tried downloading the app on my tablet and my next book 8.0 and neither are compatible with this app. Can't be done.

Kathryn Watts you may need to get the Amazon Alexa app on your phone so your husband can call you with the echo and you should receive the call on your phone through the app providing you have an internet connection. I'm not sure if regular calling works globally, only in limited countries. Hope this is of some help!

I don’t think that will work because a network like that you will constantly have to reset up.

Sorry but none of these devices work without internet, that where it gets data to answer questions “iot” the internet of things. Maybe life alert or something will work for better.

Tech Steve yes Drop in is one thing and yes I can call from my app on my iPhone 📱. The kids just yells. “ Answer Call Alexa” I was at the grocery store way over town and was able to call and they could call me😉. Awesome feature for Homeschool kiddies❤️

The Alexa has a output for speaker 🔊 but not a input for phones. You can Bluetooth your phone to it instead for audio.

@@TechSteve you haven't answered why exactly... The question is, us as users have the echo setup and also have the communication setup done. Now alexa has access to all our contacts stored locally. But now if we want to place a call to let's say X from the contact list. He/she needs to install the app and set it up so that calls can connect to him /her...
