That is such a help. I'm very happy for the man who owns this coin. Knowing that I have to go to a expert before presenting a coin could be very helpful for all these error coins I think I have. I did not know the limitations of the grading companies. Thanks for this information.

Thank you so much for explaining, I've been collecting for 30 years. I literally have a duffle bag full of errors, ready to sell. but, didn't know where to start. My coins date back to 1897, mostly error coins. It took years to understand how to see the errors, I thought it was impossible to have this many error coins, but , I do . I love coin collecting. I know I have valuable coins, NOT listed. So, thank you.. Thank you, for sharing

Mr .Todd love you comments on this 77D.. I can see the line going thru the B, and if you look at the top right of the Y, I can se were this guy would think he's got a double die, can believe the grading co. didn't pick it up, I did!! I'm over 60, and I learn stuff everyday, like the no mint mark 74, 79, 82 dime that's missing one but these (some) people say rare no mint mark, obserd they Philly didn't put a m.m.on a penny till 2017i have so many error coins for instance 64 nickels D over S, D over D, rpm ect but none have full steps which probably make them useless, sorry if I'm bothering you..happy hunting 🎉

Because of the 82 transition it made me buy a scale 1, then I bought a nice USB microscope cuz somethings you just can't see with the naked eye especially at my age, lol

This is outstanding. I really think the Coin Associations should do a better job of communicating who a collector can send the coins to for verification of new errors and varieties. It should not be this difficult to find someone especially since the more famous error experts are getting old. They won't be around forever. Thanks for sharing.

    • @CountMeOut33
      @CountMeOut33 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Agreed. Some collectors don't have the opportunity to see the different varieties. I remember seeing my first DDO & wow I didn't expect it to look that spread out.
You know Books, fourms, experts & including true view doesn't capture the beauty or show markers you need. I like PCGS I do think it's a dam shame when you pay for a membership. Followed by sending in via Walkthrough ($180) & You get a MS or AT grade when you, truly though it was a proof. Of course this is after you previously have done the researched. I mentioned above. For $180 after taxes it's fair to ask for who were the specialist that graded your coin. So any questions can go thru them. Instead of the Sorry excuse of a Front desk of Pcgs. Mind blowing / Rant
I hope that CAC refreshes the grading scene. Upon their launch next year....

Your exactly right, misleading presentations online to entice consumers into clicking a thumbnail for profit causes confusion and in the real world this type of advertising and activity is prosecuted as misleading the consumer, a good reality check would do some justice. Not to mention that there are some Conflicts of Interest surrounding the coin collecting industry, that are also being exploited online and that also hurts the trust and confidence in the industry.

    • @peekaboo1069

100% Truth! Most people that are so called experts on those coin websites don't give a flying monkeys pink bum. Many are seated on a high horse named, Delusions of Grandeur.
Bottom line, do not listen to them. They are NOT experts. Their "opinions" are worth NOTHING to the grading companies.
My lowly humble opinion is they give people false info on valuable coins or coins they need/want so those coins will be put back out into circulation. If that coin is in circulation then they have a higher percent chance to own it... They don't like the odds if it stays in your pocket.
It's not always about the money for them.... Most times all they want is the recognition and prestige that comes with owning certain coins.

That's awesome! I have a Franklin half dollar that I took to a few local coin shops to get a second opinion as to some "doubling" on the obverse. Of course my opinion is that it's a doubled die variety, but have found no supporting documentation. One of the coin shop owners offered melt value of around 8 dollars at the time, but told me specifically to not clean it. I refused the offer and have put it away for a few years now. After watching this video it has inspired me to pursue it further and see what happens. Thank you for the inspiration!

I have been collecting coins...Lincoln cents in particular for many years. Granted, I knew about some DD versions, but that was about it. A few years ago, while searching coins, I came across a 2011 Lincoln cent that immediately caught my eye as there was a connection between the two 11 making it look like the letter H. I kept it as an oddity, but never researched it. Now you have me interested.

I learned something new today. Thanks for this. I guess I hadn't even considered how each designation was actually 'documented' for comparison to submissions. It makes sense, but I guess I had assumed that they would do it all there, at the grading company, even if it was different people and/or different departments. Hopefully, they've made that clear on the site and/or on the grading forms. I've never sent a submission and I don't know that it would have been something I would even know to look for. Either way, now I know. Thanks!!

I'm so pleased with the topic. I've a 1986D DDO Lincoln Memorial Cent RB with NAKED EYE Dblg on Liberty, Date, Motto, Mint Mark & Dblg from the top to the bust west of Lincoln's photo. I refused to believe it's worthless. I said to myself, if only it was a 1969, 1972, or even a 1955 DDO . On top of it not being validated. It's has residue on it that could easily be wiped off to reveal the Surface & Strike condition better. You have NO idea how tempted I am to just wipe it off! , Of course I won't clean it.

I've got about 50 coins with one of a kind errors that are very obvious, yet 98% will not acknowledge as I post in coin groups and just claim damage without taking a second glance.. very aggravating.

Yeah, I have a few coins, 60s to date, that I occasionally check to see if there's a listing for a doubled die because there's no current listing, and I just don't think machine doubling covers it. But who am I, and I don't wanna get my nose slapped off! And I've been a searcher for many years, so I like to think my knowledge is above the average bear.

I have a 1977 D Cent, weighing 3.2., and there are loads of letters near the rim as well, and double punched.
