To move your song (or bourbon) to the front of the list, please bribe us by sending a bottle of bourbon, preferably one we haven't had on the channel yet, to: BCR 484 E. Carmel Dr. Suite 155 Carmel, IN 46032
I got some good songs to recommend, but I only drink Irish Whiskey. Y'all feel up to reviewing a song while drinking some of the pure? I got some Green Spot headed your way if you wanna listen to some New Grass played by a recovering metal head 😂 Edit to add: you know what the purpose of bourbon is? To get the impurities out of the barrel so it's fit to age Irish whiskey lol
Colter tunes his pre war 1937 Martin guitar down because he doesn't want too much string tension on the neck, do lack of a truss rod in the neck, that's why it's " jangly". His strings are "loose". It just adds to his style. This song is about the crossroads you were talking about. About blues legend Robert Johnson
There are a couple of ways to get that sound. Even tuned down a full step (my guess based on the position of the capo) you have to attack the strings pretty hard to get those vibrations. Which, I'm 100% sure was intentional, because I've listened to everything Robert Johnson recorded. And he beat those strings like they owed him money.
I've watched a couple guitarists react to this song and all are extremely awesome guitarists. They all called him the real deal. Especially with the bass drum under his foot.
Country music’s roots are partly found in the blues and that influence is still part of the genre. There are a lot of definitions of Country floating around, but the best I’ve ever heard is that it is the “music of the working man”, which is why it pulls influences from Gospel, Blues, Celtic, Folk, Cowboy, Rock (and these days Pop), etc., basically anything representing blue-collar America. Some roots are obviously stronger than others, varying by artist, but Country is a pretty big umbrella with a number of offshoots that are debated if they stand on their own, or are simply a subcategory. Which can make specific songs hotly contested if they belong to Country or not.
Well, we're not in the business of categorizing. However, we're still surprised to hear so many different historic genres in the songs you guys have us check out.
@@BourbonCountryReacts That’s fine, just trying to give you a heads up as to “why”, and why some commenters will be arguing whether a specific song is Country. I don’t care one way or the other, good music is good music, and genres are always a bit blurry on the edges. And some music belongs in multiple genres, so what can you do? (shrugging shoulders) Best of luck to you and good day. 🙂
Colter is 19 years old in these first songs, and I grew up listening to Johnny Cash and he is very close to him. Young man is awesome love his music and I am from the holler too just a simple man
I'm late again to seeing this, but I loved how you mentioned the devils crossroads. Yeah you gotta be careful if you make a deal it's gonna backfire. I don't speak from personal experience because I'm not trying to outsmart evil.
Never had Evan Williams and now i know i don’t need to. Got plenty here in TN. Y’all done any dickel? Or belle meade? I still stick to four roses even the cheap bottle. Music-wise, peep some Wilder Blue, either Janie Lynn (another murder ballad ish) or Dixie darlin. Cheers!
I think the reason EW Bib has such a reputation isn't because people like to sip it. It's cheap, 100 proof, and better as a mixer than JB or standard jack at a lower cost. This stuff belongs on ice with coke, not on it's own. Now there are other options in that $20-$25 price point that you could actually enjoy the flavor of. I think this stuff is firmly in the category of bourbon flavored liquid that will get you drunk cheap.
😂😂😂 I love the look on your face after you swished out your mouth with water , PRICELESS . I love y’all . Please react to Florida Georgia Line - May We All , This Is How We Roll , I Love My Country , Cruise, Smooth
Never had BIB before. I've also heard it's great. If I could go for any bourbon right now, my favorite let's say, would be Knob Creek Single Barrel. But I'm much more of a scotch guy. Specifically Islay Scotch. Hail Ardbeg!
Definitely a retelling of the Crossroads legend. This legend is based in the Mississippi Delta in a little town on Hwy 61 which is mentioned in the song. Mainly blues with a little country and Dixieland mixed in. The heavy bass drum is very reminiscent of the Dixieland bands in New Orleans doing traditional funeral processions through the streets.
It seems to come from a lot of different places. We're learning just how many different places. But the deepest roots seem to be blues and bluegrass. (Rock roots are really blues roots, mostly.)
I completely agree - this is very much a blues/country 'crossroads' ! Great choice, not sure I have heard this before. Not a fan of 'Evil Williams' - too funny !
Dang man, I'd love to see y'all react to "the devil lives in Dallas" by Rusty Weir, he's a lesser known artist but a Texas legend. I'm Texan so I know a lot of that stuff.
Part of that is his attack on the strings though. I can play a guitar tuned down well beyond a full step and avoid that sound. You get that string buzz a couple of ways, but beating them like a rented mule, particularly on an acoustic, is the easiest. Plus, I noted elsewhere in the comments, if his goal was to emulate Johnson, he'd want to slap those strings like they owed him money.
Nah, dude on the left is kinda right. He is out of standard tune. He's playing in Drop D, which gives that tonal dissonance left dude is heading. If you're not into genres that are heavy into Drop D, it'll sound out of tune, but it's just a different tune than you're used to. All the Doc Watson fans here will agree with dude on the right, but not for his reasoning of attacking the strings. He isn't technically out of tune, he's just playing in a different tune than most folks are used to.
Tyler Childers is another unique voice you need to hear. either one of these will be a good reaction vid. th-cam.com/video/oOIJecsnaWg/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/_QzcrflqDCg/w-d-xo.html
Dustin repeatedly acknowledges that "taste" is totally subjective. What I think is good, you may hate, and vice-versa. We know that a lot of people like the EW BiB. I just don't. And maybe that's just me. And even so, cool. Drink what you enjoy! - Keith
Ok well I hope all the Colter Wall fans don’t hate me for saying this but I’m just not a fan. This is NOT country music. Just because someone sings something with a country accent does not make it country music. It is a blues song for sure. As far as the bourbon, we’ll I guess someone has to make cheap whisk. Just saying. In addition I just don’t like the delivery of the lyrics. Not hating on the guy just not my thing.

It was legitimately played in the style of Robert Johnson. Which is just freakin' awesome. - Keith
More Colter!!! Great double reaction vid. Hilarious!! Lol
Glad you enjoyed it!

I love that the metal guys think that the outlaw country is too dark 🤣. Love u guys. Just found y’all cuz of Colter
It is kind of ironic. Because, a lot of my favorite metal tunes are far darker.
I came here for the whiskey and Colter Wall! Hello.. I'm Johnny Gash! Lol He does Hotel Yorba by the White stripes too!

Stay tuned for the Belle Meade. We tend to like Four Roses too. Andn we'll add those songs to our list.
Do you have a specific Dickel you'd recommend?
@@BourbonCountryReacts i haven’t had any of them, was just thinking my local distilleries and wondering if y’all had done any of them.
He's since transisted into more western/cowboy music
Great reaction. Colter Wall Caroline is another good one to react to
Oh man living on the sand is one of my favorite colter songs. You should circle back to it.
We'll add that to our list. Thanks

Y’all crack me up. A cold can of my husband’s Coors, and some Metal guys reacting to Colter Wall is good enough for me. Y’all can keep the bourbon.
Cool! We like the bourbon! - Keith

you should hear "Cow Poke " by colter wall to here another side of him and his range

Country and the ole 3 bar blues are 1st cousins. Depends on who and how they are playing it.
Clarksdale, Mississippi.
It is play list material for me.
Saskatchewan Great song !
That one is on the list.

Try Colter’s version of “cowpoke” it will surprise you I promise!
Country I think comes from the bluegrass Era of music. Bluegrass is a fall off of the blues of sorts. Sorry about the double post.
It seems to come from a lot of different places. We're learning just how many different places. But the deepest roots seem to be blues and bluegrass. (Rock roots are really blues roots, mostly.)

"Evil Williams." Consider that stolen.

Yall need to revisit colter now that his voice has matured
Check out cowpoke! Amazing that it's even the same guy!
He has dropped the tuning down a whole step, then capos it on the second fret to give it a loose sloppy sound.
Part of that is his attack on the strings though. I can play a guitar tuned down well beyond a full step and avoid that sound. You get that string buzz a couple of ways, but beating them like a rented mule, particularly on an acoustic, is the easiest. Man check out his song "cowpoke"
His voice has matured and its hard to recognize him anymore its amazing

YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO "COWPOKE"! Colter sounds almost like a different guy. Much cleaner vocals and just a great song
That is on the list -Dustin
I stand corrected... nothing like ruining a good song with a nasty beverage.
lol
He hits his minor chords and bends them. Genius! Definitely not out of tune.
I use Evan Williams to clean my cams

It's country blues. Early blues was called country blues.
Early blues were delta blues. - Keith
You should listen to Cody Jinks "Musk Be The Whiskey"
We'll add that one to our list. Never even heard Cody Jinks' name.
Look at Sturgill Simpson. I suggest, Living The Dream.

Not sure if you ever did lookup Colter talking in an interview. Here’s one.

I can totally see how Colter would be polarizing. Honestly, so are other greats like Johnny Cash or even Bob Dylan. ;)
