    This one is instant buy. Very late 90s gritty sound without being too metallic\microfreaky. This superswas takes me back... very good move by Behringer. Oldschoolers like me gon' buy it on sight. Thank you Starsky! one of your best reviews, you showed everything i wanted to see and hear. Wow.

      'Instant' is a comical term with Behringer, for it might easily take over a year before you can really get it (like the Crave, or, still not here, the Spice (announce spring '23).

    So it's like a microfreak with less modulation options and no paraphony, but with a better filter. It'll never achieve the modulation depth a microfreak has by itself, even if you use outside modular equipment in the loop due to how the source/destinations work in the microfreak matrix VS the grind.
    That being said - added oscillator types are cool, although of course no sample or granular like MF has. Also, INCREDIBLY limited LFO options.
    All this really makes me want to do is put a ladder filter into the microfreak :)
    It's got big shoes to fill, and although it's not trying to fill them necessarily it's hard not to make comparisons.
    If the microfreak didn't exist I would be greatly tempted to get this. Right now my Micro/Minifreak and MicroMonsta 2 are keeping me very happy. I'm sensing a pattern here 😅

    Was looking at the Crave and the Model 15 the past month and then this drops. I've been wanting to dip my toes into hardware. Have Pigments, V Collection X, NI Komplete 15, and the Moog soft synth offerings(Mini/15). Love them all but the computer interfacing with 8 knobs on my Kontrol MK3 or the 8 knobs and 8 faders on my Keylab61 mk1 just doesn't scratch the itch, as tightly integrated as they are. Back early '02 I came into possession of a Moog Opus 3 and the tactical feel is just missing, the quirks and all. Still leaning towards the analog dual oscillator vs 24 digital. Seems like I'd kind of be stepping right into compromise again. IF I get a new run Model 15 is that going to take me the furthest with analog, learn hardware sequencing and get the I dream of wires thing going on too.

    • @StarskyCarr
      @StarskyCarr  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      They’ll both give you the I dream of wires experience. I’d be more tempted with the model15 from that perspective as if you decide to expand it can be placed in you eurorack and incorporated into a larger setup. This will work with eurorack but can’t be put in the enclosure. For sound design this is more flexible. So another hard choice!

It’s an amazingly flexible little synth. The Microfreak is the only other I can think of that does similar but it’s not eurorack and £100 more. If I could only have 1 it’d be the Microfreak -that’s an insanely flexible little thing as well. But for getting into models etc this is a great starter.

    I wish someone very likeable like Keanu Reeves would take over Behringer and give the company a pr facelift so I dont have to feel guilty about liking their synths. Let's go Keanu, the Grind aint looking too shabby.

      What an interesting suggestion, can I suggest Kyra Knightly instead? I guess Chanel might pay more but lets see.

      I'll see if I can AI Keanu onto my face for the demo - a much needed upgrade if ever there was one.

      While Keanu Reeves is a highly respected figure, his lack of experience in the music technology industry could present challenges. A more suitable public figure could be Ainsley Harriott. He is widely liked, highly relatable, and brings a level of warmth and trust that could resonate well with a broad audience.
