The proof of man’s depravity is the fact that he is a lawbreaker.
Exodus 20:1-17; Romans 7:12; James 2:10; Romans 6:23
I. MAN’S DEPRAVITY DID NOT COME FROM GOD, BUT FROM SIN! Psalm 145:17; Romans 5:12; Genesis 3:1-6
A. The BIBLE Records That The First Man, Adam, Was Created In The "Image” Of GOD!
In man’s first state he was in a state of untested innocence.
However, man fell from that state of innocence when he disobeyed GOD’S command in the Garden of Eden.
B. Adam’s Sin Is What Brought All The Corruption, Evil, And Depravity That We See In This World!
1. When Eve believed Satan’s lie and disobeyed GOD and then her husband joined in her disobedience, then sin came into this world.
2. Understand though, that the world's theory is that man is not depraved, but rather, he is simply a product of evolution that hasn’t arrived at perfection yet.
II. MAN’S DEPRAVITY MANIFESTS ITSELF IN MANY DIFFERENT WAYS! Genesis 3:7-13
A. Depravity Causes One To Conceal Rather Than Confess! Vs 7
Adam and Eve didn’t deal with the inward problem, they only addressed the outward problem. Cover-up!
B. Depravity Causes One To Avoid GOD (i.e. Try To Hide From GOD!) Vs 8
C. Depravity Causes Embarrassment And Fear, Because Of Guilt And Shame. Vs 7, 10; 1 John 4:18
D. Depravity Causes One To Blame Others Rather Than Self! Vs 11-13
Adam blamed Eve directly (and GOD indirectly!) Vs. 12
Eve blamed the Serpent. Vs. 13
III. MAN’S DEPRAVITY DOESN’T MEAN THAT HE IS WITHOUT HOPE!
A. Is Man Really Capable Of Any Sin? Yes! Rom. 7:14-25
1. Noah was a just man, but sinned. Genesis 6:9; 9:20-21
2. Moses was another hero of the faith who sinned.
Exodus 2:12
3. King David was a man after GOD’S own heart and yet he sinned. 2 Samuel 11
The BIBLE records that he committed both adultery and murder!
B. Every Man’s Heart Is Depraved! Jeremiah 17:9-10
C. But Our Depravity Can Be Overcome! Romans 5:17-21
Galatians 5:17 "This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh."
The only hope we Believers have of keeping the depraved Adamic nature within from controlling us is to live in obedience to the DIVINE NATURE within by GOD’S WORD!
