  • Part 2: • Enter the Void Press C...
Oscar and his sister Linda are recent arrivals in Tokyo. Oscar's a small time drug dealer, and Linda works as a nightclub stripper. One night, Oscar is caught up in a police bust and shot. As he lies dying, his spirit, faithful to the promise he made his sister that he would never abandon her - refuses to abandon the world of the living. It wanders through the city, his visions growing evermore distorted, evermore nightmarish. Past, present and future merge in a hallucinatory maelstrom.

yeah, sometimes I wonder if journalists who keep bringing up movie violence at festivals are really trying their best to bring a refreshing angle to the contention, or are they just filling up time to justify their presence.

The defensive response to the question of the sadness of the main characters' lives tells me the cast is not very self aware 🤔 Oscar's bad decisions regarding drug use and sales got him killed. Linda's indiscretions get her impregnated by her pimp boss, leading to an abortion on screen. Their brutally tragic lives are part of what makes the film impactful.

@ph03n1xamb1t Settle down. Living in EGYPT, i'm pretty thankful of being able to watch this film on my laptop with speakers that have a pretty good sound quality. Not everyone lives in countries where art is appreciated so at least appreciate the people who like art.

@Michelinejackson It is merely my opinion, albeit an inflammatory one, and has nothing to do with my real knowledge of the film medium. I thought the film was a terrible bore. If you like hokey camera work and no story then by all means enjoy. I've watched it 3 times, really wanted to like it, but found it utterly lifeless - and in need of some considerable editing. Please let me know which microcosm of film history you would like to hear about because I enjoy the discourse.

@godbuns I couldn't agree more, I can't believe the only thing those people ahve to say is criticize the use of low class life style (stripers, drug dealer, sex, etc) in a movie.. Since when do all movies have to feature noble people with noble jobs? WTF.. ever heard of opening your mind?
I think that while this movie is not for everyone, this movie was fresh and awesome.. it's about time that directors try new stuff. This 3rd long movie from Gaspar Noé makes his work much more clear now.

This is like saying that a record only sounds good on a surround sound system. It's all documentation. Art is relative to its environment and manifests itself given circumstances. I'd think you'd understand something so blatantly obvious given that our entire society is centric about relative representations of just about everything. Often times what renders the art after the fact is its audience, ergo your little pissy soliloquy makes this film appear inaccessible. Good job.

The average American attention span is 3 seconds to be entertained. They would rather watch a crappy comedy, action or romance movie than a art house film that requires any brain activity.
To ask people to sit and think for 2 hours about a film, a piece of art or a piece of music is becoming harder and harder.....it's really sad. I'm actually getting rid of my TV for good this week.

I know that you are really expending much effort there in your desire to sound as if you have something to say on the nature of art. Using incorrect and non-existant terms such as "centric about" - (christ knows what you intended to say) does not help your case. Art is anything at all. There is no such thing as art. I think the last century had that dialogue.
