    Nice idea with the lemon zest! This was a Sunday treat for us growing up. We keep the crusts and layer them on top with sugar so you get a slightly crispy top :) (nothing was wasted)

      Charlie McBroom I actually like when the pudding is crusty..Thank you! love to hear what brings to someone’s memory from their past looking at something like this 😊💕

    I always make my bread pudding in almost *exactly* the same way as this! The layering method works so well. I use a dried-fruit mix of raisins, sultanas, currants and mixed peel (orange, lemon, lime) and a generous sprinkling of demerara sugar and cinnamon. Another tip I have is to heat the milk slightly before adding the beaten egg. (There is no need to wait as the bread immediately absorbs the liquid and so it can go into the oven straight away). I usually serve with cream or custard :-) .

      John Conway Yes, adding dried fruit will give additional flavor to it, more fruits & nuts the better it gets!! I have never tried heating milk before pouring. I should try it next time!! Thank you for the tip 😊

      +SueRan Thank you for your kind reply. The first time I made my bread pudding using the warmed milk I accidentally brought it almost to boiling point and it cooked the egg, lol . I didn't make that mistake again though!!! I am sure you are a far more accomplished cook than I am but I did find it quite interesting that we both make it using a virtually identical method. Next time I will add some nuts too .I have subscribed to your channel as I am sure I will get many more ideas for other yummy recipes. Cheers!

      John Conway Thank you John!! That’s very nice of you. My self is not a great cook either. Still learning 😊 I actually thought about that too, if you are adding hot milk to eggs you have to keep stirring to avoid cooking eggs. But that how we learn right!? I love that layering way since it add some presentation to the pudding..It’s interesting how people have same methods of making things around the world! 😊🙏🏼

    • @SueRanStyle
      @SueRanStyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Taniya Wanasinghe It’s not supposed to be a sweet dessert. Using dried fruits and sprinkling sugar on top does gives a sweetness to it but you definitely can add about 1-2 tbsp sugar to the milk. Or even more according to your taste. 😊
