Kyle Kholin Kyle Kholin you should write this as a banner most people won’t see a comment after they watched the vid but your subs would see the banner in there notifications
That really sucks. It's one of my favorites, and I can't afford to be a patreon of all the reactors I watch. Oh, well. Hopefully, you will put it out at a later date for those of us who can't pay to see it now.
@@rlhcat7662 Yeah I get that. I think carefully about which videos i make exclusive. Unfortunately everyone has a different favorite. Thanks for your support on youtube though!
You found Pentatonix after years of polishing. At this point they have ONLY been a band of 5 for 5 weeks. Watching them grow is mesmerizing. They make tremendous strides during the show. Your honest reaction is always welcome.
Honestly think this is my favourite Sing-Off performance - because it is straight-up theatre! The whole song you see Mitch and Kirstie having a full-blown argument, Scott is singing his ass off and Kevin and Avi are just inhuman. AND THAT. VIOLIN. RUN. Also one of my fave Kirstie vocal parts in this one!
She isnt worried during the judge's comments she is most likely emotionally drained. This song is probably the one in which they clicked the most emotionally and the way they performed it was intense. Kirstie was studying musical theater, she knows how to get Into character. She is also starting to get sick so it's all snowballing for her. Opinions are amazing, everyone is Intitled to their own. This is one of my favorite performances but I know what you are talking about with the chorus.
I'm still trying to comprehend what was going through their minds as they sang this song, I'm not sure if they were ever this emotional in latter performances - and I just did a marathon of reactions to their season lol
Not knowing the original, I really like this one, mostly because it is so intense. My fave individual moments are when Kevin is snarling out “na na na na” and then Avi does those descending notes.
I do know the original, and say about Kanye West what you will, but he has had some inspired songs in his time, this one being one of them. It's brilliant, and - I must say - better than the Pentatonix version. Which is a feat, since I tend to like Pentatonix' versions better a lot of the time.
Kyle, my man, do not apologize to having an opinion!! It's your channel, you get to like or love or not, anything as you see it! AS for that opinion, you weren't alone. As good as that performance was, and there was alot of good, there were places were it felt pushed or over-sung. (the messy). Also too, they were still young and not used to singing non stop like this show dictated. They were doing a ton of experimentation and stretching voices past the comfort zone on occasion. Great video, as usual. Keep it up.
I appreciate the honesty😊 You probably shouldn't compare the PTX that you're used to to what they're doing in these. They're still getting to know what they can do imo
I. LOVE. Your. Honesty!!! Not many reactors are willing to criticize Pentatonix if they don't feel it because it pisses off a lot of Pentaholics, but if you're not feeling it, you're not feeling it. It's completely fine!! You're turning into one of my favorite reactors, so keep it up!!!
Keep in mind: throughout this whole experience... they only had a few days to arrange not only the songs but the choreo as well for each show. As they proceeded towards the end they had to prepare & perform 2 shows per week. IN ADDITION to the large opening group performances. That’s a TON of work.
I think at the start of the judges' comments, Kirstie (and Kevin) was still deep in the emotion of the song, not worried. I personally love this performance. One of my favorites. Perhaps on my first listen I thought it was a little messy, but after the second and third and onwards, I really appreciate all the elements of the arrangement. Anyway, great reaction. I like it when reactors are honest about what they don't like about a performance. That way, when you say you like something, we know you genuinely like it.
This is one of my favorite performances they did on the show, but I think I know what you're talking about. I think it was deliberate and it never bothered me. For me it made the performance feel more intense and raw and I thought it fit with what they were trying to do. I do understand how it would just sound messy to you thought. It's really a matter of personal preference and I appreciate that you're honest :).
I loved it, but I totally respect - and appreciate - your honesty. There are 12 Sing Off songs and just wait... they get better and better!! I hope you do all of them - some are mind blowing!
The chorus is the much needed lull from the intense storms around it. I guess you have the benefit of knowing the fu fu fu future and how they saved acapella. You're very respectful and a fellow pentaholic so no worries! Keep being honest cause that's why we're watching.
This is one of my favourites but I'm really glad that you're comfortable enough to be honest with your opinions. I really hate when you can tell that a reactor is being fake and just pandering to the fandom. I always look forward to your reactions... thank you 😁
Hi Kyle. When they performed on the Sing Off the five met literally days before. Yes the trio have known each other since childhood but they brought in the two others who are singer song writers and performers to take them to the final and finally become professional.
also after this one or maybe on this episode they had two songs to arrange and perform each week. so there weren't that many episodes just that many performances :)
I’m glad for your truthful reaction, I also didn’t feel this one but it does get better and is one of the first stepping stones to what they are today. Mitch as the violin was perfection. Can’t wait for more reactions to PT X and Sup3rfruit
Everybody be like. Yo, it's fine. We respect and value your opinion. (even when we all know deep in our hearts that you are objectively wrong.) Seriously though. I get where you're coming from. It doesn't have the polish of the Pro Level group they become. Still, the energy was unmistakably there. Between this and the last performance we really start to see the roots of the great band Pentatonix grows into.
It's okay to not like everything they do, there are some songs i dont like that they did, but that doesnt mean i dont LOVE pentatonix. Thanks for another great reaction!!
Kristy was SO underrated in this one... by all the judges and you Kyle! Watch at the very end when she's pointing, her hand is SHAKING, she put a lot into this to support how awesome it sounded as a whole. I've always thought with PTX, you have to watch each video 5x and focus on each one individually each time bc they are ALL that good in their own right.
After finishing the series...can you plz react to when they announce the winner? It's just priceless to see their reactions when they got to know the results! It would be very interesting to see your reaction to it. They were so nervous!
This is actually one of my favs from their sing off, I thought it was incredible. :D but yeah, personal preference, so to each their own :) Good to hear you being honest.
I think I hear what you are talking about. There is a lot going on in the background via Mitch and Kirsten during chorus. I have to agree it's borderline screaming a but it never bothered me. I just registered it as intense and emotional. Definitely a personal preference thing.
Very interesting!!! I can kind of see what you mean, but I think for a live performance of that intensity and complexity of the song (and competition in itself) so early on in their history as a band, I think that slight sloppiness doesn't really detract from the awesomeness of the cover/performance! We all have our different opinions and perspectives though, thanks for being honest!
This is the performance that I think put them as the favorites to win the show. They had to still improve to win it, but this put them into real contention to win.
It was fine - but as so many people have already said, it's more that you can see the growth of the group, you can hear that they are getting tighter in theri harmonies and their timings. There are other ones that they did better. I like (as you did) bits of this - Avi & Kevin being the awesome rhythm section that they are/were, Mitch's glorious violin bit and Scott & Kirstie being great in bits - I also found the chorus a little too intense for my taste - but still fun to watch. Thanks for sharing
Two points: 1) They we’re still young and 2) the Sing Off basically was challenging each group to stretch themselves and get out of any “comfort zone” they were in . If you notice, with each song they were asked to try different genres, pop, hip hop, country, rock, etc. this wasn’t their best song although it gave each of them a chance (except maybe Kirsten) a chance to shine.
Man, definitely my favorite sing-off performance, absolutely incredible, was very glad you remembered your headphones the song isn’t the same without them
I am with you on this one. It is not a bad performance by any means, but it falls short of the level of amazing that we have come to expect from Pentatonix.
I really appreciate that you are respectfully honest. No pandering. I agree with the chorus. This is one of my favs but that was despite the chorus for me. I loved kevin and avi’s parts. And scott’s raspiness and soul. :)
Very cool reaction, it's honest and you actually think about things. I think lots of viewers get bored of reactors really quickly if all they do is freak out over how good it was - there is no substance to that and no variation that keeps you want to come back to see how they'll feel about the next one. So please, don't lose that!
This one is not one of my favorites but I know a lot of people really loved it.To be fair this is only like their sixth time to perform together as a group so taking that into perspective they did a remarkable job.
There's a few random live videos of Kirstie doing whistle notes. Girlfriend has skills. And she has really come into her skills in the last 2 years. She was obviously always talented but man...what she is able to do now...
They cleaned it up in a studio version... if you look for the studio version it may still be out there. it's a little slower but technically perfect. Pentatonix - Love Lockdown (Studio Version)
I pretty much agree with you. Of all the sing off performances I didn’t get much out of this one. And I would much rather watch live performances than recorded ones.
There’s a really funny video where superfruit(Scott and Mitch) react to their sing off performances. Also please react to Scott and Mario Jose singing lost on you, it’s so good!
You should try watching super fruit react to the sing off it’s really funny to watch Scott and Mitch cringing at their performance 😂😂 also just some of the covers they do are absolutely amazing
I know the next performances and I think thats why this one appeals to me so much. Im a huge Kevin and Avi fan and right here is where I started to see Avi and Kevin really start becoming powerful. The next act you see even more glimpses of what they will become although I don't like the performance Then, by the 7th performance those two guys have become jaw dropping.
I heard what you heard, but I didn't the first time I heard them. I think, after following them for so long, and hearing how AMAZING they are now, I can tell that they were messy back then. However, hearing them the first time, compared with all the other performers, it was not noticeable.
Woo-hoo, you're back! I didn't know the song, but they did a good job. You didn't mention Avi's bass part - I think it's one of the best of the series. They are still "getting their act together", literally. That continues for a few more. Also, you mentioned Kirstie looking a bit glum. A few videos later, they mention that she was really not well, so maybe that was starting here. But she's such a trooper that you never see it in the performances. Looking forward to the next one.
Neta012 yup. So that’s 13 total reactions. Then there’s the Christmas show special with the other groups. Then when they come back in season 4 as special guests.
I get what you meant, I've thought the same thing, but partly I figured it was that I don't know the original and partly the genre isn't my usual. My ears search out clear, clean harmonies and melodies, like what I usually listen to. I really liked how much they just dove in and put everything they had into it - sometimes enthusiasm is more enchanting than expertise ;-)
I really liked it, but I know what you mean. They usually have more of a clean feel but on this one they had a more chaotic mix on the "background music" parts. Typically that is something I don't care for as much, since I've found that it annoys me if I can't make out the lyrics in a song. (Because of my hearing damage it's hard to distinguish voices from background of the same volume level.) However they didn't overdo it, so I got into it & didn't miss having a rap part.
You should also check out Superfruit. It's Scott and Mitch's vlog turned legitimate musical endeavor. They have studio stuff and live performances. Their Frozen medley is silly and adorable and good...and it features Kirstie too.
This performance is not a favorite of mine, either, largely because I don’t care for the song. I also always figured that they were just trying to survive hip-hop week and get to genres more conducive to their style. Next week is a Britney Spears Medley that I like because it features Kirstie. Then is “Born to be Wild” by Steppenwolf. That one is fun because of what Avi and Kevin do to give it a heavy rock feel.
Please watch what I think was the 7th performance, Born to be Wild, which is my favorite, and preferably not just as Patreon so I can hear your reaction. Thanks.
14 shows altogether. Well, it is only their 5th performance together as a group..., Only!!! Of course, as you know, they have risen to world fame for their perfection since then. Yeah, she's sick in this one too. Personally I liked it, for me, there really was on ly one cringe worthy performance and a few that showed that they were indeed just starting out, and just finding their groove as a musical group. Peace, Love and light Kyle.
I am not a kanye west fan and not familiar with hs songs. First time i heard this (just last year when i had this burst of interest with PTX), i didn't like it but then watching this over and over, it just grows on you and got to appreciate the talents even more
I always feel Kirsty gets kind of missed in the compliments in these videos. But I understand because she is surrounded by such talented people. At the same time, the group seems to be well balanced and keeps all its members equally presented. In their videos, Kevin and Avi could easily be hidden in the back. Most bands have that one member who is upfront, and maybe a second member becomes well known too, but they do present all their members equally.
@@KyleKholin One thing that bugs me is that, even when she does a lead in a song, the judges comment on her dress, or say "she's so sassy", but say very little about her voice. You'll see some of that in the next one - the Britney Spears medley. It's frustrating. But if you want to comment on her singing, that's always welcome!
Kyle the audio on the version you listened to was tinny. Totally off. I noticed that something was 'wrong" during the song but its extremely noticeable after its over. Now that you've reacted to it you might want to look for different uploads of it, just to see the difference.
Originally, live, I agreed 💯 with you. I was a little harsher, actually. My thoughts I remember were that I really didn't like the song choice, the verses, or the chorus. What I loved was the tenacity, the commitment to their niche. Also Scott was really the only standout for me there. Everything else just sounded so all over the place. It was too much blend in my opinion. Looking back after all these years though, I believe it had more to do with how it transmitted to us through the waves of television with respect to its muddy-ness. Everyone there, in person, must have heard what Sarah and everyone spoke about. That bass hitting your chest and the mics leveled correctly in house. It had to be that.
Yo, never hold back honesty!. This wasn't one of my favs from sing off and you're right it did sound not well put together. But this is only the 5th performance of group of 19-21 yr olds. They've only been together as a group for 5 weeks. They haven't found their sound yet.
Nice reaction. I don't get butthurt by negative reactions (or less positive reactions) when they have clearly articulated and reasonable objections. It's to be expected that some reactions are less positive than others, and you know the old saw about opinions and bodily orifices...(grin) The number of performances and the number of weeks don't line up because of the weird formatting of the show this season (this was the only season with 16 groups). Pentatonix didn't appear on week one or week three (they were in group B, which performed on the second and fourth episodes). The third or fourth week featured two performances by each group ("Your Love is My Drug: and "Piece of My Heart" were both on the fourth episode). During the fifth week, they combined the 10 remaining groups into one, and the fourth, fifth, and sixth performances (weeks five, six, and seven) featured one performance from each group. The last three weeks had each group performing twice--week eight was performances seven and eight, week nine was performances nine and ten, and week ten was performances eleven and twelve). The finale episode (which was live, IIRC) had each of the three final groups perform twice (performances thirteen and fourteen) and the fourth place group (Afro Blue) performed a song with Smokey Robinson. Then, as they were eliminated, Urban Method had their swan song. The Dartmouth Aires performed their swan song after PTX had been announced as the winners, and it was a wonderful performance that I don't believe ever aired. (It is here on TH-cam--"Somewhere.") The show ended in the middle the the PTX performance of "Eye of the Tiger", their victory song.
Thanks for all this info! I've seen all of these performances many times, and it was confusing how they were organized. It's weird that some weeks they didn't perform at all, and others, they performed twice. That must have been so exhausting. Now it all makes sense.
This was not one of my favorites and it's more for the fact that I'm not a huge fan of the song. But as for the performance itself it just seemed way too busy kinda everything seemed to clash. But of course this was only their 5th performance together as a group. And we all know they get better. Thanks for the reaction!
Like all things PTX, even when I don't like the song nobody could do it better. They have quite a few songs I'll listen to once and never need to hear again. To be honest, you'd have to pay me a large amount of money to listen to Kanye West. I'd rather visit the dentist.
Kyle, I agree with you. I watched this season of TSO and I love a capella music but the chorus in this was just a tad off, IMO. Keep up the great work!
When I first heard this, I didn't like it at all. The more I listen to it the more I come to enjoy it. Maybe it's a grower, but I get why it wouldn't be your favorite. Given that you do actually listen to it critically (which is awesome), there'll be a couple of performances yet which you probably won't care about all that much, but there are also 2-3 awesome ones coming up that I hope you'll enjoy (keeping in mind that it's still at least 4 years before their prime).
When you've heard their current stuff that is so polished and tight, this early stuff is a long way back. The recordings aren't great either, to be honest. I don't think that helps.

I know the next performances and I think thats why this one appeals to me so much. Im a huge Kevin and Avi fan and right here is where I started to see Avi and Kevin really start becoming powerful.
The next act you see even more glimpses of what they will become although I don't like the performance
Then, by the 7th performance those two guys have become jaw dropping.
I heard what you heard, but I didn't the first time I heard them. I think, after following them for so long, and hearing how AMAZING they are now, I can tell that they were messy back then. However, hearing them the first time, compared with all the other performers, it was not noticeable.
I liked your comments. The only thing I ask you to remember is at this point they had been together for 1.5 months
Oh and please react to the winner announcement after you finish the performances It's intense
I felt the same way you did. But it still was a lot of talent on that stage.
If you want to here Kristi showcased check out Wizard of Ahhhhs. It is awesome!!!!
Yes I agree.
Something didn’t feel right or was lacking.
I love your reactions & musical comments.
Keep up the great work!
Please watch what I think was the 7th performance, Born to be Wild, which is my favorite, and preferably not just as Patreon so I can hear your reaction. Thanks.
And it was only their 5th performance. Only 5th time working together. Have to remember that
You should do home frees journey on the song off
14 shows altogether.
I think if I complimented Kirsten anymore than I do in my videos I'd get a restraining order on me. 😳😂
@@KyleKholin - I say, don't hold back! I love hearing Kirstie get compliments!
@@KyleKholin One thing that bugs me is that, even when she does a lead in a song, the judges comment on her dress, or say "she's so sassy", but say very little about her voice. You'll see some of that in the next one - the Britney Spears medley. It's frustrating. But if you want to comment on her singing, that's always welcome!
keep in mind that as of this episode of Sing-Off, this was their 5th performance EVER since they had just formed the group.... Just saying.
Hey Kyle - Where's #6??? I can't hold my breath too much longer.
You should react to Song by Pentatonix. It’s an amazing original.
Nice reaction. I don't get butthurt by negative reactions (or less positive reactions) when they have clearly articulated and reasonable objections. It's to be expected that some reactions are less positive than others, and you know the old saw about opinions and bodily orifices...(grin)
The number of performances and the number of weeks don't line up because of the weird formatting of the show this season (this was the only season with 16 groups).
15 performances
This might just be my opinion but I prefer the studio version over the live performance solely because of Avi's bass 😅😄
Like all things PTX, even when I don't like the song nobody could do it better. They have quite a few songs I'll listen to once and never need to hear again.
To be honest, you'd have to pay me a large amount of money to listen to Kanye West. I'd rather visit the dentist.
I agree. It's not one of my favourites. I can appreciate the technicalities, but it was too much going on at once for me at some parts.
Kyle, I agree with you. I watched this season of TSO and I love a capella music but the chorus in this was just a tad off, IMO. Keep up the great work!
I dont like this one but I promise it will get better
I agree and I’m a fan from everything they do, but I didn’t feel it either.
This song has always been a love/hate thing for me as well. Appreciate finding the good in it, nice reaction ☺
I don’t really care for the song. That said they did a great job, on a song that I don’t really like.
When does the Meat and Potatoes come in??
Love the videos! Can you react to home free ring of fire? It's ft Avi from ptx
I just reacted to this over on my Patreon. If you can, check it out!
Oof, the audio of the inner video was so tinny.
can you please please please react next to The Drug in Me is Re-imagined by Falling in Reverse. I'll feel like you would really like it
When you've heard their current stuff that is so polished and tight, this early stuff is a long way back. The recordings aren't great either, to be honest. I don't think that helps.
Always thought this one was kinda muddy.
I will admit, this wasn't my favorite performance from them.... and that's okay. Don't hate you for it.... they can't please everyone all the time :)
