      Yes. I am in fact going to pretend I didn't hear that

  • @FatherLizard

    Let me vent.
    So I keep seeing pros bring up the topic of holes on certain courses that are very tough for them to birdie such as hole 1, 6, 9 - and they come across as disappointed/frustrated/and confused. Now, don't get me wrong I am not a pro disc golfer and don't play these courses. BUT as a fan (especially as one coming from traditional golf) I DO enjoy watching pros play for par when par is very difficult to achieve. Those holes bring back the standard definition - the philosophical idea if you will - of what Par is. Par is supposed to be based on the standard amount of strokes a golf expert would require to take to complete a hole. Now, in my opinion, not only does this make par more exciting to watch but it also adds so much more value to what a Birdie is. I can understand when a hole is just flat out designed poorly, but to disregard a hole due to it being exceptionally hard/impossible to bridie is lame. I know some will say that the score doesnt matter and it is all relative, but based on my argument above I do think that lower birdies and more pars better suit the nature of the game. This is all my opinion, but I'd be glad to know what others think.

    • @qikink1
      @qikink1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think there's two different, but hard to disentangle criticisms. On the one hand, you have holes where pros will just say the par is "wrong" and they should increase it. On that I agree with you, and it's just sort of grousing.
      On the other hand, you can have a hole design that makes par very straightforward, while making birdie incredibly difficult to impossible. You still hear the same thing "it's hard to birdie this hole", but now imo that's a much more legitimate complaint about course design. Think about something like a wide-open, no OB, 700 ft par 3. That's going to create little to no score separation for touring pros, so why even play it.

    • @bigjermdg
      @bigjermdg ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My counter argument is that par is not hard to achieve in these holes at all. When birdie is nearly out of the question, par becomes the birdie and when it is incredibly easy to achieve the par the hole presents a multitude of issues

    • @brandonkiehl269
      @brandonkiehl269 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think the problem is when par is easy to achieve, but birdie is unrealistic. Then everyone just lays up and it's boring and lame. This course looks like a lot of that to me.

    • @FatherLizard
      @FatherLizard ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@bigjermdg Fair! And I appreciate the discussion. I do think the others that commented bring up great points that easy par & impossible birdie is boring. I would agree. I will have to disagree with you though that when birdie is out of the question, par becomes birdie. I don’t see why that is the case. Holes with challenging par (and impossible birdie) still make for exciting holes with separation potential.

  • @epegr1075
    @epegr1075 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The definition of good hole design from these guys is “normal or clear idea of what the shot is”. Idk if this course is good or not, but making people (supposed professional disc golfers) make choices to throw shots outside of your comfort zone is the future IMO. I like the old guard, but based on their perspective it made me wonder if the current game is passing them by

    • @GorillaTactics
      @GorillaTactics ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@toby1691 I agree on the different shot shapes but par 3s should be reachable for most of the field and par 4s/5s need landing zones that aren’t hemmed in by artificial OB. I want to see the pros throw aggressive shots accurately and be rewarded for them, not lay up a ton to avoid going over a painted line.

  • @feelthepayne88
    @feelthepayne88 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I think new courses are a good addition. Pros should be able to dissect a new course in a few rounds and come up with a game plan. Planning is a big part of the game that I think gets overlooked, instead of just playing basically the same courses year after year. Puts everyone basically on the same level at the start. No real advantage for players who've played an event for years or are a local to the area.

      I had the same thoughts but it’s also why they may be taking Waco (partially) to a golf course next year: a lot more flexibility for hole design on private land than public courses. Also Roy G still has some construction/improvements going on so I could see it coming in the picture in a few years if the Tour decides to consistently come back to Austin.

There's a very good argument for Met Center to be the course for this event since the DPGT wants spectators. It's a perfect course for spectating as almost every hole can be seen from safe areas around the park. Third, let me know why this course is instead the best choice. I'd love to hear a salient argument for it because I've seen many of these course previews (from touring professionals) that give me the opposite opinion.

    This is great. Difficult courses for these guys where a birdie is a true premium and a bogey can be detrimental. Although I think a couple of these were a tad TOO long, but generally I think it's fine. We all know there will be a few players that manage to get super impressive birdies
    Theyre used to seeing -10 or more every round from the top players, but a course like this requires a different mindset. Nothing wrong with a par and picking your spots. It requires a lot of consistency and focus

    I will say, though everyone is hating the course, I'm loving the fact that this isn't a regular golf course. This is adding in that parody in the division we needed and wanted.

    Y’all need to take it easy on Kyle. I was rooting for Calvin as his Destroyer has been my forehand disc for half of my two year disc golf career, but it’s your job to build up the new disc golfers: not to prove you’re more seasoned than them when they’re snagging W’s. I’m 33, but could almost hang with y’all after two years whereas this 20 year old is talented in what I understand is the new era of discs. He, Gannon, Isaac, etc are the future of the sport. Don’t try to take them down but build them up gentlemen. Much respect for all of you, but too much talking down to Kyle for my preference.

    I've seen Jerm pissed, I've seen him lose his head, I've seen him go bonkers... I've never seen him so broken as when he did the hole 9 breakdown.

    Sheesh, it was exhausting listening to these dues complain about everything. God forbid you have to throw something other than a stock 350 foot hyzer backhand.

    I think the pro tour has platued to the point that if they are forced to throw low and do a difficult shot shape, they just default to rollers and spike hyzer and wonder why they are ob.

    I love these videos, and I watch every one. Over the last year I’ve been getting stuck behind people who are playing a practice round, throwing 3-4 drives, 3-4 approaches, and 3-4 putts. I value a good practice round, but could you start letting people know that they need to let people play through? I feel like so many people don’t understand simple etiquette , and you teach a large enough audience that you could change this issue.
