MY AVATAR PLAYLIST: • Avatar: The Last Airbe...
In search for an Earthbending teacher for Aang, the kids go to an underground Earthbending tournament where they encounter Toph, a blind, but powerful Earthbender.
The world is divided into four nations -- the Water Tribe, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation and and the Air Nomads -- each represented by a natural element for which the nation is named. Benders have the ability to control and manipulate the element from their nation. Only the Avatar is the master of all four elements. The ruthless Fire Nation wants to conquer the world but the only bender who has enough power, the Avatar, has disappeared ... until now. His tribe soon discovers that Aang is the long-lost Avatar. Now Katara and Sokka must safeguard Aang on his journey to master all four elements and save the world from the Fire Nation.

RIP MAKO IWAMATSU
😔
He was so loved as Iroh that even the voice actor who replaced him refuses to sing "Leaves from the vine" purely out of respect. As he says "It was his song not mine".
This episode and especially the song leaves on the vine are the last line he did for the show... Extra respect for the dedicated of him also doing it while he was in the hospital just somewhere before his death
Glad he managed to complete Season 2.
@@redviper6805 there’s still 5 episodes left
One detail aboit the scene, Lu Ten's picture has readable text, it says "general, we'll meet again when we win the war, Lu Ten", and the picture is an avatar style picture of Mako Iwamatsu when he was young, he was in the military as well. Rest in peace Mako Iwamatsu, he'll always be remembered by the avatar fandom.
And the Samurai Jack fandom.
Ahh, the episode that can bring a grown man to tears. It’s crazy how this show was meant for kids, but even as an adult now I appreciate it more and the mature tones they put throughout it.
This show sugs @$$.
it was meant for kids? I can only 🤦🤦🤦to this comment
This Episode was dedicated to Mako also known as the voice actor for Iroh
RIP Mako Iwamatsu
In this short, Uncle helps everyone he meets.
Another important thing to point out here is he helps them in every stage of life.
Baby. Kids. Young man. Man at the stall.

Irohs short was written by Andrew Huebner, the production manager on the series.
He also wrote Irohs song, Leaves from the Vine.
And because of losing Mako, he's sworn that no one else will ever sing it.
I guess we aren’t getting a tale of iroh in the live action series
@@EnaLikes live action series still has potential to be last airbender part 2. Especially since the guys that worked on the original series pulled out due to creative differences
Just to go further, the VA that replaced Mako, Greg Badwin, has said that he will never sing Leaves from the Vine as, in his own words, "that is Mako's song."
4:55 this short actually explains why in a roundabout way. Losing his son humbled him, and made him reevaluate his entire life.
It's also part of why he cares about Zuko so much. That's what, "If only I could've helped you." means.
Because his son went down the same path Zuko was in season 1, and died for it.
So he's determined to not let that happen again.
And it's even more true because in the beginning of the show Iroh told Zuko that he thinks of Zuko as his own son.
The tale of iroh is easily one of yhe most important scenes in the series as within little time, Irohs segment was just powerful being one of the most heartbreaking and emotional scenes of the entire show. You can really just feel how much his son meant to him and how he wish he could still be there. His sons death impacted him to change and become a better that we all know and still love, RIP Mako and Irohs son
I love how even if a lot of episodes didn´t explore the story and there are "fillers", actually the creators use that time to develop the characters ans showing us background stories if they can do it.
Normally, I’m not a fan of fillers (unless they have good character development stories) but this Avatar episode, I don’t mind at all.
@@SpacialRend7 Yeah, me too. But I mean, it's technically not a filler because has to do with the backstory and the characters relations between them.
Honestly, I think the only real filler is The Painted Lady and The Great Divide
@@yesyesyesyes4923 The Great Divide is the biggest filler.
the great part about Avatar is how even the filler episodes aren't really filler
they all contribute to character growth, giving a a deeper look at them, and world building
and the Tale of Iron will always be 1 of the best parts of any episode imo
it really shows why Iroh is so kind and makes his character that much more tragic along with the Leaves from the Vine having so much emotion behind it both on and off screen
RIP Mako
I cry everytime I see this episode, everyone needs an Iroh in his life!
The Iroh story always brings a tear to my eye, he was a general and the son of the Fire Lord but he wasn’t a bad guy, or maybe the death of his son changed his views on the world and on the reason of the war.
For Aang’s the new “zoo” looks like it was created on what looked like to be farm land. If I was a farmer and Aang destroyed my crops and land to put a farm there with no compensation I would be pretty pissed. Also I could see the city unhappy if those crops were used to feed the citizens
R.I.P Mako, also the picture of Irho's son is actually a picture of the VA Actor Mako as a young man. 🥺🥺🥺
I mean, you gotta remember, Toph sees with her feet, so imagine having a pumice stone rubbed against your eyes. It also probably distorts her vision a little, like rubbing your eyes too hard, and the world looks all goofy/blurry for a bit.
2:51 Toph is very reluctant to allow anyone else to touch her feet, probably because insensitive handling there would make her deaf to other vibrations and thereby render her helpless (and because they are far more sensitive than other people's feet).
The tale of Iroh is the best segment in this episode😢😢. RIP Mako Iwamatsu you absolute legend
Iroh: _"Leaves from the vine, falling so slow"_
Me: *crying*
Sokkas short is Avatar's version of a rap battle.
Fun fact: rap battles have been around for centuries, even before the Shakespearean Era! It was called flyting.
A haiku is a form of Japanese poetry.
The first line has five syllables, the second line has seven syllables and the third line has five syllables.
But here's the secret: it doesn't have to follow the 5 7 5 rule. It just has to have 17 syllables. 5 7 5 is just the most traditional.
The way this guy was saying Iroh and Sokka’s name was very triggering giving war flashbacks to a certain movie that doesn’t exist 😅🫣
This was a great episode. Just little slices of life bits of their days. The uncle Iroh one hurt. Mako was an icon, he was in so much and voiced some great characters. This was just a fun, relaxing episode. 🐾🐾
On the picture of Lu Ten, the inscription read, "General Iroh, I will see you again when victory is obtained! Your loyal son, Lu Ten." A lot of fans think that this was the last communication between father and son and adds to the heartbreak. Also, the picture of Lu Ten is based on Mako the voice actor when he was younger.
The guy who voiced Irohs mugger is actually my favorite voice actor, Quinton Flynn. He voices Axel in KH, a summoner in FFX, Iruka in naruto, Silver in sonic, Raiden in metal gear, and so much more. Just kinda cool recognizing him here in avatar as it was my favorite show growing up
He plays Silver? I didn't know that. That's awesome!
@@ceruleanwalker1069 well to be completely accurate, Silver had 2 voice actors. It was Pete Capella from 2006-2010 and then Quinton Flynn from 2010-2017. I recommend taking a look at Quintons IMDB sometime, he’s voiced so many characters from my childhood
And Marcus in digimon data squad, Reno in final fantasy crisis core and advent children
14:10, this was the point of the previous episode’s
Zuko: I don’t want to make a life here
Iroh: Life happens wherever you are, whether you make it or not.
That was a great reaction, man. This episode still brings me to tears.
Thanks
Iroh's song is even sadder considering the line "Brave soldier boy, comes marching home" and his brave soldier son, Lu Ten, never came marching home
Pygmy pumas are a smaller, sleeker version of pumas bred for compact city living.
They're extremely dangerous when provoked, and are often trapped and sold in Ba Sing Se.
Mako prerecord a large chunk of dialouge going through the rest of the season before his untimely passing. His replacement only fills in a few small lines and doesn't take over fully until season 3. It's an unfortunate situation, but Greg Baldwin pays great respect to such a legendary actor.
The picture of Iroh's son is actually a portrait of the late Mako from his youth ❤
In honor of Mako. Mako is well know actor. His appears his career was some soldier in the 1959 movie Never so few. Then he is rival of Bruce lee from the series of the Green Hornet 1966. And then many more movies he work.
I like this episode, it’s pretty cool to see the characters’ side stories in this one. My favorite tales are with Toph and Katara, Sokka, and of course, Iroh. They have a good blend of humorous and emotional vibes imo. Also, RIP Mako Iwamatsu.
To make this episode even sadder. The message on Iroh's son's portrait. It says "General Iroh, I will see you again when victory is obtained. Your loyal son, Lu Ten."
2:14, the episode consists of vignettes each focused on one of the major characters living a daily life in Ba Sing Se. The Tale of Toph and Katara is the only one with two protagonists.
yeah this was the last episode mako voiced iroh. rip legend. 😢
Iroh's Scene Is Especially Sad When You Consider The Fact That It Was The Last Thing Mako Recorded! The Tears Were Real, He Knew He Was Dying Of Esophageal Cancer
8:09, Sadly This Is The Last We See Of The Cabbage Man
Remember That Footprint At The End, It's Important In The Next Episode: "Appa's Lost Days"
The voice actor that replaced mako sounded exactly like him, when I first watch the show I didn't know until I rewatched it and decided to Google mako
This episode is my favorite because of Uncle Iroh seeing him on the hill singing to his late son is so heartwarming and very sad of losing Mako Iwamatsu as well.
RIP Mako, thank you for being in Conan the Barbarian with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Iroh for The Last Airbender and the evil AKU in Samurai Jack. . . .
Iroh was the Prince of the Fire Nation, as the first-born, when his father Azulon served as the Fire Lord. Sometimes, the Prince or whoever is heir to the throne, serves in the military and takes up the role/title of General or Admiral. During this time his son died during the Siege of Ba Sing Se. This is when he had a change of heart.
Iroh is hands down the MVP. I'm grateful for all of the heart poured into the character by Mako, the writers and even the replacement VO (sorry, don't remember the name) who does a pretty good job as well.
RIP Mako
"Grab your snacks, because we're about to-"
Cry. We are about to sob uncontrollably. Weep, even.
I love these segments. We see Katara, Toph, and Iroh deal with some very personal hardships. We see that even the fire nation can lose in this war. We see Zuko finally be allowed to be just a regular teen and hating that he can't rly be honest and true in these moments. And we get to see Sokka and Aang bring back some of their personality back from s1 which is lovely. Momos is also rly sweet but sad and it just rly is such a good balance of insight into the changes and struggles of each character and how they adapt to their current positions in life.
Rip Mako❤️. He actually recorded the song in the hospital bed, I think, I'm not sure if it was the bed specifically. But it was time they recorded him before he died.
The teacher is Madame Macmu-Ling.
Her name was inspired by the writer for the short.
MacMullan = Macmu-Ling.
hey tim love your video's❤ and this episode of avatar: the last airbender is in memory of mako who did the voice of uncle iroh in the past episode's of avatar: the last airbender rest in peace mako iwamatsu(1933-2006)😢 and tim have a nice day and a great/a good week💪☀️😎🤙
Momos short was written by Giancarlo Volpe and Justin Ridge.
Giancarlo was a director, and Justin was an assistant director.
The part with Iroh crying while singing always tears me up since it is actually Mako crying, knowing he is dying soon 😔
In case you missed it, Sokka was in a poetry-off using haikus. A haiku has 5-7-5 syllables and it was almost like a rap battle lol him getting struck in the rear and pushed into the building, he apologized and accidentally said a haiku.
I can just imagine someone hasn’t Finished Avatar yet and while they’re still watching it AND watching you’re Avatar videos at the same time and when they see the thumbnail there and haven’t watch this episode yet, I can see them saying “NO NO YOU CANT BE SERIOUS! IROH DIDNT DIE IN THIS EPISODE!!”
The day i felt happy and bad for iroh. The type of grandpa we all wished we had and a devastated person cause his son died at war. No unfeeling man should watch this
The Fire Light Fountain is pretty much the most romantic place in all of Ba Sing Se.
3:45 "damn, that is violent! 😅"
Hey, they freaking deserved it after insulting toph that way. Plus this is exactly why i love toph so much, she will take no insult from anyone, like one little insult and she will be like "you have chosen death..." 😆
Most of the tales: aw this is entertaining and interesting to watch
The tale of Iroh: 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Zukos short was written by Katie Mattila, a production coordinator and later became the script coordinator.
Great reaction! Irohs segment hits so hard every time!
First time I saw this episode I was very young and Iroh made tears run down my cheeks and it wasn't until a decade and a half later I found out the reason behind his tale and the death of the voice actor for Iroh and when I watch it now I can feel the build up of tears but nothing comes out
Man......Iroh is a god 😭😭😭 i am 14,and i am still seeing this amazing show. It will remain in my top 3 favourite shows, movies or anything else like that forever. Anyone can cry, laugh, and enjoy in general while watching this awesome show, especially episodes like this one. One of the best for sure. My favourite tale is Zuko's and (of course) Iroh's. I still tear with Iroh's tale 😥 it is so emotional. And i can feel Zuko's tale because he has had such a painful life,so he cannot understand how to treat a girlfriend right. And also,a bit bias, because Iroh is my second favourite, and Zuko is my favourite character, not only from this show, but possibly in general. He is indescribably awesome 👍
Mako (Makato Iwamatsu) came to prominence in The Sand Pebble with an Oscar nomination for the role of Po-han. I remember him the most in Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer film series as Akiro the Wizard. He had many more film roles, but he is well known for his voice in Samurai Jack as Aku and Iroh in Avatar: The Last Airbender which would be his last performance.
Calligraphy translation: "General Iroh, see you when we win the war! Your loyal son, Lu Ten".
Unpopular opinion: I feel Momo missing Appa is sadder for me 😢, than Iroh's tale…
I knew this was coming today, and I still couldn’t hold back my tears
Very refreshing to have a good uncle character. Seems the evil uncle trend started with the legend of Amleth, which inspired Hamlet.
8:14, He first appeared in the episode King of Omashu (Season One Episode 5) when the Earthbender guards destroy his cabbages. In the same episode he has Aang hauled in front of King Bumi after Aang accidentally destroyed his cabbages. At the end of the episode, King Bumi and Aang accidentally destroy his cabbages. He next appears in Season One episode nine, The Waterbending Scroll wherein the Boomerang Squad inadvertently destroy his cabbages while fleeing the pirates and he complains that “this place is worse than Omashu”. He also appeared in the episode Journey to Ba Sing Se Part One: The Serpent’s Pass wherein the ferry guards destroy his Cabbages since they’re worried about a Cabbage slug making it into Ba Sing Se. And he appears here.
Also now you know why this was one of the greatest episodes
Opening the Ba Sing Se gate takes the full strength of six or more earthbenders.
This episode is a "filler" of short stories because the Gaang has to wait a whole month to get to talk to the king, having this episode here helps give us a feeling of that time passing while also giving us a chance to see what each character is up to in more of a day-to-day life setting rather than them constantly having to travel and train and fight for their or other peoples lives
Tim bro you did so good
Mako actually cried when he sang Leaves from the vine, because he knew that he didn't have much time left. Iroh was singing goodbye to his son, but Mako was singing goodbye to us, the audience! 😢
Toph and Katara's short was written by Lisa Wahlander and Joann Estoesta, both production coordinators on staff.
Aangs short was written by Gary Scheppke, a production assistant on staff.
R.I.P MAKO IWAMATSU.😔
One might think this is a heartwarming episode full of wholesome tales but don't be fooled!
Katara and Toph assault innocent girls because they don't like poodle monkeys.
Iroh tells an untrained poor man that he can become a masseur which endangers a lot of cramped backs in Ba Sing Se. As if this wasn't bad enough, he also teaches him how to rob people more effectively which will come in handy as soon as the masseur career doesn't work out.
Aang dooms a poor zookeeper to a life in prison as there is no way the Zookeeper had a permit for the valuable farm land outside the inner wall. Not to mention all the property damage the animals have caused.
Sokka is trespassing and undermines the authority of an esteemed haiku teacher. The ramifications will be felt in 10 years when the haiku will be seen as a poor art form as no student properly learned the art after they stopped respecting the teacher.
Zuko goes on a date and plays with a girls feelings just to secure her as a repeat customer, giving her a tea coupon.
Momo is cute tho.
Out of all eps i could never forget obout this when it comes to atlab
Let's just say, Iroh, wasn't always the way he is today. There is a reason He was called the Great Dragon of the West. And laid siege to Ba Sing Se.
I cryed my eyes on this episode, thanks for sharing
In tophs case with them working on her feet. You got to remember she sees with her feet. So it’s basically them grinding on her eyes
Wow you made it to this episode 👏 it's 5 tales in one episodes, Zuko and Iroh were the best.
The writer of Sokkas short, Lauren MacMullan, is actually a director.
Love this episode man!!!! Didn't have a lot of action, but I love the character study with the protagonist characters and antagonist characters! This puts a smile on my face! Hope you like it man! 🙏🏽💪
This is a beloved episode of the show; mostly Iroh's story is the favorite, but a number of other moments are also greatly appreciated, such as the poetry club.
R.I.P Riko Iwamatsu
If you think about it, touching Toph's feet is like touching her eye balls.
Surprising how touching the story with Momo was
This was his last episode, as far as I know, all upcoming episodes are by a different voice actor. This and the next episode are beloved by the fandom, and you should look up information on the next episode after watching it, it will be worth it
Nah he finished season 2
Mako voice all episodes of season 2. The new voice actor does one scene in "The Tale of Iroh" where the kids break the window before taking over in season 3.
13:00, when you’re good at something but end up out of practice things like that do happen
It's important to note that Iroh changed a lot after his son died. He WAS a nice guy and inteligent, but he was still a general of the fire nation that was making jokes about destroying ba-sing-se.
I'm wondering if Toff's heels are more sensitive to physical manipulation than Mina Ashido's horns? If we discard the sensation of earthly vibrations for orientation.
bro the first time i heard the song in this episode im crying and crying again now at the second
Often... Blind people tend to knowingly.. or unknowingly increase there senses when one or multiple senses... Ore not available
Toph basically sees through vibrations... And because she is standing most oft the time .. or atleast touching the ground her senses likely go to feeling and sound
You wouldn't think at first that it is possible... But a lot of blind people go off sound and there for are often better at playing instruments... I have spend about 12 years on a school for blind and people with other disabilities... And a lot who couldn't see or barely see... Were really good at playing the piano... Or had the talking speed of serie super fast
2:51 her feet are literally like her eyes, she needs them to touch ground to feel vibrations to see, so when people scrub them it’s very painful. Like scrubbing her eyes. Not because she’s tickleish
I really like Jin. Like many Avatar episodes I saw this the night it first aired. 2006 just got back from theatres seeing “the Guardian” with Ashton Kutcher.
I remember when I was watching others react itoh and his son, to make a long story short every one of them cried.
My favorite vignettes: Tale of Zuko, Tale of Iroh, Tale of Toph and Katara, Tale of Momo, Tale of Sokka and lastly Tale of Aang. The end of Tale of Iroh just never got me emotional 🤷🏻♀️.
11:02. Ah, yes! The quarterbacker who is ready to yeet any frauds out of the building and onto the street! Every poetry school has one… I think.
There was *character development* in this episode.👍
Hey Tim, if you’re familiar with OSP (overly sarcastic productions) they do a Mentor Tier List with our friend Iroh up in god-tier. 🥰
18:11, that was Season One Episode 11: The Great Divide.
12:16. Zuko: "She is not my girlfriend!"
The waiter (walking away): "I don't get paid enough for this shit!"
Having crew members write these shorts was head writer, Aaron Ehasz's idea. He thought it would be fun to see what they came up with.
18:18, it’s a very well received episode.
