    My absolute favorite Star Trek ship

    In the Star Trek universe RPG my buddies and I game in, the nacelles are ingrained into the ship, exactly like the Defiant class.

    I think we can safely say the 365m 'variant' doesn't exist, just represents Trek SFX and its frequent playing fast and loose with scaling.

    The Hangar bay door are front, center of the main hull......... a loss of shields and a hit here punches deep in to the Saber Hull. A serious design flaw for a fighting ship.

      @CaptainSeato ปีที่แล้ว

      I blame the insistence of promoting ship designs incorporating the large front cutout in the saucer.

    • @cameronhoy5383
      @cameronhoy5383 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, yes it's a structural weakness. But it also protects the hanger itself while allowing quick forward deployment. And i think the hanger is actually one of the things you want to protect the most, there's fightercraft inside there, each carrying a supply of antimatter for photon torpedos. Tbh it's one of the most critical sites to defend.

      @DrewLSsix ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A hit anywhere on an unshielded ship will go deep. Without shields most ships can be taken out with a single half lucky shot.
      You seem to thing there's anywhere on this ship where a hangar bay wouldn't represent the exact same threat.

    • @cameronhoy5383
      @cameronhoy5383 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @DrewLSsix Not true as evidenced by the show. Ships often lose shields and still withstand a lot of punishment. Especially with ablative armor like the defiant (I believe the sabre also had it later?).
      In DS9 the defiant spent like half of every fight with no shields.

    • @pauln6917
      @pauln6917 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DrewLSsix A fighting ship..... going toward hostile vessels...... forward toward hostile vessels....... Forward toward hostile vessel with a large hangar bay in the front.
      Forward toward hostile vessels with a large hangar door in the front that any shot can penetrate deep to vital internal systems.
      Doesn't need to be lucky when that is the side presented to be fired upon.

    I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS SHIP USED MORE IN THE SERIES--with it being in the Dominion war it would not exist yet for the... UPCOMING WAR WITH THE LIZARDS AS WITH THE -STRANGE NEW WORLDS-preview. Still it's pretty cool and one wonders why they not think of having a duel use ship especially since those we constantly encounter have bigger and badder everything!! And the Federation never seems to upgrade much!

      What I like is that in my mind they are responding to the Borg threat by letting engineers from various worlds go off plan with their designs. In the hopes that the resulting ships will be diverse enough to make adaptation difficult for the Borg. That's why so many anti Borg designs look practically alien compared to typical federation designs.

      Now imagine after dominion war one assigned to surveying outer region anomaly s as a mid level scientific captain.against your would be pirates or opportunist captains they are leaving with collapsed bulkheads and venting plasma.

    Recently discovered you. I like your content. I do have a question; I have seen you using numbers to rank systems on starship like shield strength or hull Integrity. Where are you taking these numbers from and what exactly do they represent?

    a lot of escape pods on a ship with a standard crew 40. Or maybe the design is for rapid evacuation of a sizable populace ....... or, also suited for temporary placement of 'special forces', the MACOs (Military Assault Command Operations).

    • @JohnnySqueaky
      @JohnnySqueaky 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Cause minimum crew is 40…but if used as a tactically capable science vessel…cause remember it’s starfleet…
      ”warships” aren’t allowed and this is very defiant class with more science lab credentials so the federation council doesn’t prevent it from being produced pre war of course…so the 200 crew would have been standard more so than 40. During the war probably 50-70 crew would have been max standard to spread manpower around during a war of attrition with a never ending dominion troop supply…

    I like the Sabre class ship, and is one of my fav's. Though I do question the variations parts of this video as I don't believe there were any variants, besides why build a larger version of a class of ship as you would need to resize the internals as well.

    What I love about startrek is they don't just design the ship skin all the weapons mods and systems all get designed to like it was a working blue print lol it blows my mind the deeper in to the rabbit hole I decend these guys should work for NASA or the US Space force which is 100% a rip off of starfleet they even have the symbol Starfleet is coming people 100 years from now it will be as seen in Startrek Enterprise with a United Earth and Starfleet leading the way and the good thing is we alll ready have a 1000 years of ship designs from ST lol we just have to build these beauty's 😅

    I wouod of like to think that starfleet hade a few prototype and expeimential sabers as early as 2349 during the first federatiin cardassian boarder wars. For reason like testing project galaxy computer sustems in combat and befor going to fullized galaxy and bubula ships. I would also kinda hope that starfleet would of been looking ar replacing mirenda and conselation classes and since the 2350's or even 2340's. As for the anti borg saber upgrades that really too off around 2365 or early 2366 but were not ready till closer to first contact

    • @DrewLSsix

      They were specifically designed as anti borg ships.

    • @teresaravenshaw5477

      @Dustin D - That doesn't make sense. How do we get anti-Borg ships a decade and a half before the Borg are first knowingly engaged? They're a response to the Battle of Wolf 359.

    • @dustind3960
      @dustind3960 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@teresaravenshaw5477 maybe the steam saber class amd the steamrunner were some of the science ship more weapons then tue oberths in 2349to 2362 after the end of the cardassian the were all retired amd stripped of weapons a reduced need tp ships on on cardassoan boarder. Also redisign and rettofitting the older sabers class ship ans older steam needed abput 5 year. Ps tue anti borg tech only came after the 2367 battle cube
