“In the beginner’s mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert’s there are few.”
Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind is a profound and influential book by Shunryu Suzuki that delves into the essence of Zen Buddhism. This timeless classic invites readers to approach life with a fresh, open perspective, akin to that of a beginner. Suzuki emphasizes the importance of mindfulness, meditation, and simplicity as pathways to enlightenment. Through concise anecdotes and teachings, he illuminates the subtle art of finding profound meaning in the ordinary. Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind is a guide to cultivating a mind unburdened by preconceptions, fostering a state of pure awareness and tranquility.

I was just about to start writing down the timestamps so I can post something like this. Thanks, friend
@@NoamCat : Glad if it’s of some help.
Oh wow, thank you so much for this!
It is indeed helpful af

Been reading this book and Siddartha (by Herman Hesse) for 50 years.
I read this almost 30 yrs ago and I have found it to be a helpful method of living.
Well .... aren't you spoiling us lately? A 4 hour audiobook?!
Coming from someone who used to narrate/voice act creepy stories on TH-cam, I know exactly how exhausting it is to sit down and knock out a long recording session. So, from the very depths of my heart, I thank you a million times over for the amazing videos you've been putting out.
While I'm more fond of the bedtime stories/adventures that lull us off to sleep, these are incredibly helpful when you just need some time to relax, and listen to a great audiobook that's read by an amazing human.
Thank you so much. If you have a donation page, please tag me the link, I'll happily send some $$ your way for your time.
Thank you for this. I've been listening to this slowly over time. Normally I prefer reading but there's something about hearing someone speak these words that lets me absorb it. I appreciate it.
Thank you!! This is greatly appreciated! Very well done! I was aways shocked that the widely available reading is an abridged version...that's like abridging the Heart Sutra.
Thank you 🙏 .
Came here because the most popular audiobook has many chapters missing!
It does? Which chapters?
The following twelve chapters are missing from the body of the most popular audiobook available commercially:
- Mind Waves
- No Dualism
- Constancy
- Communications
- Negative and Positive
- The Quality of Being
- Naturalness
- Readiness, Mindfulness
- Attachment, Nonattachment
- Calmness
- Experience, Not Philosophy
- Beyond Consciousness
(Also, each chapter begins with a small epigraph, I.e. a quote from the body of the chapter. These are not included.)
This was copied from a review of the other audiobook. Very abridged!

Wow I never knew this! 🙏 I have the book too though and I've never noticed anything missing...
Love and prefer the voice of Peter Coyote too.
Ty ty ty for this 💓 💗 💖 💕 💛 ❤️ 💓 💗
I've read this book and heard other versions. I ENJOYED THIS ONE
Thank you so much for taking the time to put this book out here. It's not easy to find this full audio version of the book, and the voiceover here is also clear and much soothing to the ears. Thank you for your efforts. 😊
You're very welcome!
Thanks!

One tiny quibble:
For those who might be interested, this is not actually a completely “unabridged” version of ZMBM.
Specifically, although it contains most of the chapters in the book ZMBM (containing the transcriptions of the talks by Shunryu Suzuki), however it omits:
- Preface (by Huston Smith)
- Introduction (by Richard Baker)
- Epilogue / Zen Mind (which appears on pg 171 of ZMBM)
(That said, this is certainly a great improvement over the version of ZMBM published by Audible, which -in addition to omitting the Preface and the Introduction- also omits 12 chapters from the body of the book itself.)
Simply the best❤
The narrator voice is from heaven ❤️
Thank you 🙏

Thank you for rescuing us from Peter Coyote's tape recorder
I couldn't bring myself to listen to that one. Too tinny, and the abridgement was entirely unnecessary.
@@PhoenixFireZero : On the other hand, I must say I quite like the “tone” of Peter Coyote’s reading. For me, it seems to fit the nature of the book extremely well. (Although I agree that the quality of the recording could have better.)
Of course, the reader of this version is very good, too.
However, the more serious problem with the Audible version of the book (for which Peter Coyote reads) is that it omits twelve chapters from the book, as well as the Introduction and the Prologue.
So weird I've read the book many times and have listened to the audiobook tons of times and never noticed chapters missing.
I fully agree that the version of Peter Coyote is beautiful. His voice indeed perfectly matches with the text.
Instead they provide us with a Robot voice... And people are pleased. The reader Literally has no Soul or Spirit
@raindeerprojekt4119 It's an unfortunate choice - a robot voice reading the entire work, or a real human being executing a poor recording of a severely (and quite unnecessarily) abridged version. No doubt one day we'll have a real human reading the entire thing (hopefully Peter Coyote - he has a great voice), but for now, we are where we are. What can you do?

ERRATA:
[[I’m currently re-reading ZMBM while listening to the recording, and I’ve notice a few errors in the reading which I am noting here. (This is an on-going project.)]]
- 1:19:00 : “...when I was thirty”
Pg56 : “...when I was thirty-one”
1:54:02 : “... no particular way in the true practice”

Came here from the bridged version 😂

4kinds of horses
Excellent, good, poor,bad
The best horse runs slow and fast right and left at the drivers' s will before it sees the shadow of the whip. The second best will run as well as the first one does just before the whip reaches its skin. The third one will run when it feels pain on its body. The fourth will run after the pain penetrates to the marrow of its bone.
dang chapter 40 is really long
I used to like Zen and read this book. But I thought there was something essentially wrong and strangely naive with such ideias.
Later I began to learn Teravada buddhism and what the Buddha really said in the sutras.
Then I understood how Zen was prepackeged to fit into the western way of thinking to match mainstrean psychology and counterculture philosophy, to serve as a kind of easy shortcut to be sold.
In short, Eastern worldviews are highly traditional, complex and incompatible with the western way of thinking. And Zen as it's normally presented, including here, is not honest and is twisted.
I don't doubt the good intentions of many people or maybe most people here.
Please study more of the subject to have a better idea what you're dealing with. Thanks.
Nah
