    I used to, teach tarot and one thing that was always addressed was etiquette. I told students that if you are reading for someone and they start interpreting, they did not come to you for a reading, hold on to that, it has nothing to do with your worth. I told them to decide soon how they want to handle it so they can be consistent, because more than likely it will happen. I found I was not consistent when it happened to me. Sometimes I just took their money and let them have at it. Sometimes I would just say something like, that's interesting how you see it, but that's not the only way and I would try to remain in control of my reading. I will however never read for that person again. In the same vein if you let someone else read for you, it's their interpretation. Even if you see something else, it's not your reading. By all means listen to yourself, but do it quietly. Actively listen to the person currently reading. Don't go to someone for a reading unless you want them to give you one. I encouraged other teachers to say a similar thing. Most of them, if not all, already did.
    It's not you, I think this happens to most seasoned readers.
    I'm sorry you and all readers have had to go through this.
    Most places where I have read do the disclaimer for readers, so being sued was not an option. I give a similar disclaimer when I read from my space, I have never had tarot insurance. I wouldn't even know where to go for it. People are so litigious these days it's a good idea to have it.
    When I read for people I do tell them that they don't have to give me any information, but that they'll get a better reading if we work together. I think you're right, I had not noticed but it does seem that querents are more closed off these days.
    I enjoyed your video/rant. I've only heard it talked about in reader circles. It's time that it's said out loud to the masses. Kudos!

      @lacmalince1652 thank you so much for your comment! It's nice to hear. I try to always tell everyone I teach about manners but for some reason it goes in one ear and out the other for the majority it seems. I like your suggestions and I'm definitely going to try a few of them. Once again thank you

    I completely understand what you are saying here. That reading wasn't meant for anyone else to decipher, it was for the reader of the cards. I was in a membership on here and it had a Facebook group where we would share our readings. It became so toxic to me because there were a small handful of ladies that felt like they wanted to go through and start reading and giving advice on other readers cards and it felt very icky to me instead of a supportive atmosphere. I feel like it is definitely an ego thing. I have noticed this behavior in people that think they are superior or more knowledgeable or learned reader than who they are getting the reading from (Ego). I have given my advice on readings when the person is new to reading and have asked for my opinion on what the cards say, but honestly like you said, Tarot is a private language between the reader and the cards and their intuition. Seasoned readers should know this! Insurance is so wise to have because there are always people that want to sue someone because they don't want to be accountable for their own actions. Sadly that is the world we live in, so it is always wise to protect ourselves. I also agree about the exchange of money. I do readings for my friends for free, and they do for me also, but most generally I feel like unless someone pays for your reading it isn't an equal exchange of energy and it can throw the reading right off. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. I completely agree with you, not that you need my validation, but it's there anyways....LOL 👏👏👏

      @AmethystAscension I hear you with the FB thing. I steer clear from FB it's very toxic on there. Everytime i run advertising on it, i get so many negative comments and ignorant people that it's insane. It's the only place I run into this behavior. Thank you for watching and commenting. It's greatly appreciated 💕

    As a professional you need to be able to read for all kinds of people - including the ignorant and the rude.
    You can prepare for those readings, and know how to react in a professional manner. 😊
    What can you say? What can you do?
    Ask them politely to not interfere, until the reading is over?
    Say that they can have other opinions, but they should keep it to themselves, at least until the reading is over?
    You can't choose your clients 😅
    You should be in charge during the reading, and not be afraid to explain what you're selling. Your insight and intuition is what they're paying for. You're allowed to make that clear, before you even start the reading 😊

    First of all I can't believe some people and second of all...that original deck is 🔥. I wonder why it was changed so much 🤔. Thank you for mentioning that you need insurance to be giving people life advice. It's all fun and games till you get a crazy and they sue you lol. I love your channel thanks for being real

    It sounds to me that the friend wanted to show off how good a tarot reader she was to her friend, rather than helping her friend. Big ego walked into your space and it likely had nothing to do with you. Thank you for sharing with us❤Keep up the wonderful work! Your channel is becoming my go to each morning☀️

    Now I've seen the original deck, I would like to see more of that included in the newer deck. It is nice to hear someone talk about the warnings of legal action from the advice they give out, and liability. 🌻🌻

    Wait...people actually do this???? I "read" for myself, do the whole journal thing and I know the RW somewhat, but I am not by any means a reader nor do i pretend to be. I think social media has caused people to think they have the right to state an opinion/view when they do not. I also feel TarotTube has given people the illusion that they are a reader as well. Now days people watch a few videos and think they are educated on a subject and know it all. It's ridiculous that someone would sit down in front of a well-seasoned reader and think they know more. Your right "amateur" move all the way.

    Thanks for doing the side-by-side -- the indie version of the deck is gorgeous!
    I began reading tarot in my teens and remember going to tarot readers as I thought it would be a good way to supplement my tarot learning. What I actually did was critique their interpretations (in my head and not out loud, thankfully!) and think they were wrong because their interpretation didn't match the LWB or tarot book I was reading. I have sent many a blanket apology for my behavior into the ether. I'm mature enough now to understand that there aren't definitive meanings for the cards and I recognize the value of a reader's experience, intuition and interpretation of the cards. Hopefully your video will help others to understand the importance of listening to their reading and being open to a hearing a voice other than their own.

    Love what you said. I do readings for myself, but I enjoy other tarot readers’ readings, especially when they share the cards they pulled. For me, it’s an amazing learning curve.

    I feel cell phones and the internet have really changed people. I has made people forget their manners for everything it seems. I agree it is a very amateur thing to do. Thanks for addressing this.

    Could it be a lesson in holding up boundaries? Sure it‘s rude and I would not have the patience for that but if I it happens repeatedly there possibility is I have some learning to do.

    • @sootandsalt
      @sootandsalt  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @slovestarot3821 it happens quite a bit and I have definitely considered there is a lesson here for me, but as I talk to other professional readers it seems to be an issue for them as well.

      @@sootandsalt Maybe it is something in the collective. I have issues with boundary in the family. Not at all the same but the direction of the energy is interesting. I wonder what will happen.

    I had no idea about tarot insurance, but it makes sense. If it's not too much of a personal question, how many times have you been sued due to your work as a tarot reader?

  • @sincerelyshannadee
    @sincerelyshannadee 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Wow. I cannot even imagine! Maybe at the beginning of your readings making a simple "intention statement" of "Questions are always welcome but you're here for *my* interpretation of these cards and in order for me to give you my best, I ask that interpretation of the cards be left solely to me and spirit (or just you, depending on how you read)". I'm assuming you only do in person readings? Have you watched Barbara Moore & Charlie's first (I think) video (@ Wild Mystics) where they talk about a very similar topic. It might give you some insight.

    It is so weird when people override a reading they pay for. If you pay for someone else's insight, let them share their insight. That happened to me subtly once. It was irritating, because so much goes into a reading with me (my intuition, my claire-cognizance, my spirit team, the cards...) there's so much "behind the scenes" that is happening spiritually that they are not aware of to be able to contradict the reader's interpretation.
