- A playthrough of Capcom's 1989 NES game, Disney's DuckTales.
Played through on the normal difficulty level with the best ending shown. For the full review with media (including soundtrack and screenshot archive), be sure to check out www.nintendocomplete.com/duckt...
DuckTales is an excellent platformer headed up by the same people responsible for the Mega Man games, and should be pretty irresistible for anybody who was a kid in the 1980s when the TV show was new.
It's also pretty unique, in that it (and DuckTales 2) are the only games that I've ever seen to allow you to travel to exotic places and slaughter the indigenous creatures as an old man using his cane as a pogo stick.
It easily does justice to the show, and as fantastic as the remake was, the original is still the best!

8:56 You mean to tell me if I just stayed still on those rocks they would not collapse?!? All this time I used to rush across those rocks as fast as possible!
Omg saaaaammmme 🤣🤣🤣
Young or old, this is a high quality NES game !! So much fun !! I'm still playing it today !!!
im 12 and i play donkey kong and super mario bros, the classic games are great now matter how old they get
❤️
DuckTales is certainly a favorite among kids of the NES generation, and it is still today easy to see why. It's a quality game, through and through.
great soundtrack and game mechanics thumbs up!!!
Notably due to The Moon stage music and the Mark Mueller-penned DuckTales theme.
Yes this game was 100% awesome even now at 42 i can i recall alot of good memories of it..gona have to dl a emulator and this with a few others..also was a huge addict of the show along with Rescue Rangers..Loved me some Gadget..
@@jamesspencer1997 ha I’m 40 and just watched it and brought back all the memories. Such a great game!!!!
Frfr
RIP Alan Young and June Foray, who provided the voices of Scrooge McDuck and Magica deSpell, respectively.
Good for you
Both had long great careers, Alan Young was great in Mr Ed as Wilbur too. And Miss Foray will always be a untouchable legend in the voice acting industry.
O
So too did Kathleen Freeman (1919-2001), who on this series played Mrs. Crackshell.
As well as Russi Taylor, the voice of Huey, Dewey, Louie and Webby.
This was my most favourite game. Loved the mysteries and hidden clues. This game was way ahead of time.
This and Chip N Dales were some of my favorite games..
This game definitely inspired a LOT of Shovel Knight's gameplay
And we all know it, yet apparently only Megaman gets the mention as the inspiration most of the time 🤷♂️
@@BenjiMordino Fun Fact: This game uses Megaman NESs engine
@@DragonMals And all because this game was made by Capcom.
You betcha
@@bronysimpson3250not just that, same key people who made megaman
I beat the shit out of this game as a kid... which means I beat it 2 times until I had to return it to my friend. This is bringing back some good memories.
Such an A-list, excellent, classic of a game.
I remember playing this game with my cousins every summer at my grama's in Alabama. We would go swimming, jump on the trampoline, then run inside to grab popsicles and play this 🤣 this game brings so much nostalgia.
I have the same story, except we played Mega Man..😂
@@valjeanlee7060 😊 fun times
Wow, I have almost the exact same nostalgic story with summer at grandma's, swimming, running around and playing this game. Except that it took place in post-Soviet Russia, there were no popsicles and we played it on a black and white tv and a Chinese NES clone. 😀
27:29 the Song you came looking from
How did you know?
Te Moon theme song
Nah
Hipster
It's definitely great, but guess I don't like it quite as much as everyone else seems to.. I actually prefer Transylvania's theme.
And just like that, it's the early 1990's all over again. No mortgage, no job, just Nintendo. Nostalgia is a great feeling from time to time. This is one of the games I remember playing at my friends' houses.
I'm not even sure if the kids go to each others' houses anymore to play vid games. I think the internet connected stuff has made our society lose something important. That's why more and more young families are moving away from technology.
I feel ya! totally how I hung out w friends in elementary thru high school!
I kinda got that feeling back when I was playing 3D Mario World w my niece not too long ago. if she got bored, we did something else. if she wanted to come back to it, we came back to it.
the direct, social face to face component is hard to replace!
This game from what I've seen and heard, is one of the best! I remember playing the GB port, and not faring too great... But believe me, man - I'm gonna hunt down a copy of this or challenge the Compilation Pack that this is included with!
Man! This gameplay brings back so many memories. Great vid! BK
that moon theme still slaps today, I enjoy it every once in a while.
This is incredible, my brother and I used to play this ! I remember the competition they had in NY
Thanks for the content, great memories. Good work on the game.
The Moon music is so classic, hard NES
my fourth favorite nes game of all time, was actually the first NES game I ever beat. I remember renting it from blockbuster when it came out, beat it that sunday before we had to return it.
First played this a my mom's pot dealer's (I had a very unconventional upbringing) house. I liked so much I asked to borrow it, and he was cool with it as he knew my mom would be back. Played the crap out of this game. Love it. One my favorite Purple box games.
I came across part 2 first. I like both, though. Especially the sound tracks 😊
My oldest son used to watch the original DuckTales in the Louisville area on FOX affiliate WDRB, in the Chicago area on then-superstation WGN (now NewsNation) and in the Lexington area on fellow FOX affiliate WDKY, and in reruns on The Disney Channel and Toon Disney (now Disney XD).
Back in those glory days, WDRB was known as "the childrens' destination," meaning that children always watched their favorite Louisville station WDRB, and from the station's launch in 1971 until 2002, WDRB was the best place to catch childrens' shows such as Bugs Bunny, DuckTales, The Real Ghostbusters, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Fun House, Double Dare (Nickelodeon), Power Rangers, Spider-Man, Popeye, Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, X-Men, Beetleborgs, Xuxa, The Pink Panther, Battle of the Planets, Ultraman, Peter Pan and The Pirates and The Mickey Mouse Club, among others. BTW, WDRB favorites (and real-life friends) Tamara Evans and Jennifer Baileys both grew up watching those childrens' shows on Channel 41.
Love the music in this game.
This game was really a masterpiece
I was 12 when this came out. Brings back memories.
You can't talk about ducktales without mentioning the legendary soundtrack
moonerman
I was so upset to hear Ducktales 2’s soundtrack. Not memorable at all. Same thing applies to Megaman X2- nowhere near the iconic level of X1’s music. Sometimes Capcom hits a sophomore slump after crafting a perfect ost.
Boy that first stage music transports me back to childhood instantly
Years ago I foolishly wrote this and Chip N Dale off as kids games, a friend of mine owned both games. Years later, I hurriedly added them to my collection, because I realized finally how good these games are. Yeah, at times in those days I was like Mega Man, naive.
If only the other NES Disney games had been remastered. Especially TaleSpin, which was one of my all-time favorites.
Although Capcom had previously worked with Disney by publishing the Hudson Soft-produced Mickey Mousecapade in North America in 1988, DuckTales became the first licensed game that the company developed, and shared many key personnel with the original Mega Man series.
Disney's smart for not choosing LJN.
5:11 - WHAT. WHAT IS THAT, HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS!?
I have no idea how he does it 😢. I've tried repeating it exactly 😂
@@sneeks7388 I think you have to ask Launchpad to leave the stage and then have 7 in the 10,000s place like 70,000 or 3(7)8,000.
Such nostalgia watching this!
Awesome classic game! Lots of shared DNA with Mega Man 2.
Beautiful memories 😍🥰, Duck Tales i had for GameBoy back than. ❤
2023 From Philippines. i still have this game
Oh man, I had this!!! I played for hours!!!
One of the best video games of all time! I beat it on the Nintendo and Game Boy!
Never played this version of the game before.. .. ..however I used to play the Game Boy version all the time when I was a wee lad!! Good times!!^^ Thank God for quality handheld ports, right?? Used to have so much fun trying to discover all of the games hidden treasures and goodies!!^^
Back then, I thought The "Moon Theme" was a surprisingly moving track... .. ... ..
30:49
YEAH!! Head Banger!!!!!
Not really
27:29
Here's the part that you wanted
I am probably one of the few people who played Duck Tales 2 first. As a result, I have more vivid memories of that game, although I do see why the first part is such a classic, and seemingly the best-selling Capcom NES game. Can't go wrong with most of these older Capcom platformers. Also, jumping on a pogo cane like that would probably wreck Scrooge's sternum. So much for realism. ;)
Ghosts n Goblins... on NES... oh fuck...
I hope someone got fired for that
Today that would be even weirder, as DT2 has an insane price compared to DT1.
27:28 the best level
It is amazing how this is the same console as the one that did Super Mario Bros with its ugly clunky graphics and blocky 16x16 pixel sprite level design. This is closer to a SNES title. Fun fact: of the 100 games that came out on both NES and SNES, in 50 cases the NES game is better than the SNES. The SNES only wins in 20 cases. Such an amazing console and the best one Nintendo ever made.
I played a lot of good NES games when I was a kid. Sadly, I missed out on this one. I need to get a hold of this ASAP.
It's available as part of the Disney Afternoon Collection on both PS4 and XBox One.
1:24 what was that just now?
The remake of the game made me interested in getting it
This DuckTales NES game is based on the Disney animated series, off of syndication in the late 80's-early 90's.
DuckTales was later ported to the Game Boy in late 1990. This version features the same gameplay, music and levels of the original console release, though the layout of each level was changed to accommodate the handheld's lower resolution screen.
27:27 The orgin of the meme
still amazing
Thats my first game in NES. 1990...thats so Long time ago.
I beat this game when I was 5 years old and my parents were so impressed that they were almost worried about me lol
At 5?...are you being honest?
DuckTales is a cute arcade-style from Capcom USA.
Nes was the best console from 32 16 and 8 bit, idk why always wanted to play something from 16 or 32 bit, some 8 bit games is just cool
I loved this game but it was HARD.!!
Hi, what emulator are you using? I'm trying to play the game but every single emulator I use has issues when you press more than one key. It makes it nearly impossible to cross the spikes jump from vine to vine or keep pogoing high enough to get the chests up top. I even tried going to the bottom and pogoing over the spikes yet he still takes damage and after a couple of falls dies. I'm using the keyboard. I'm not sure if that's what is causing the issue, but I can't seem to use my XBox controller on the emulator.
Ducktales: Os Caçadores de Aventuras
Great game of my youth
Though this is an NES library staple, and I watched quite a lot of DuckTales.
I used to call the floating red aliens bobos cause it looked like that’s what they were saying.
astounding
Life is like a hurricane here in Duckburg
Race cars, lasers, aeroplanes, it's a duck-blur!
Might solve a mystery
Or rewrite history!
DuckTales! Woo-oo!

DuckTales! Woo-oo!

DuckTales! Woo-oo!
Not pony tales or cotton tales, no,
DuckTales! Woo-oo!
A legendary game it's a shame it was so small though
How do you get a perfect ending?
I recovered two hidden treasures but ended up in a normal ending, does that mean losing a life is also losing the treasures you were holding?
Nice
As a kid, I never noticed how annoying the enemy death sound is in this game.
When games were actually games and not trying to recreate reality. Once we hit Dreamcast and Ps2 they really started to look like reality
27:30 This is what you been looking for

Man - I forgot how lame the final boss was... I'm now ashamed of how excited I was when I beat this; I don't care if I was 9.
Ducktales was awesome.
Can't believe this guy walked through the game... Am i the only one who played the entire game bouncing? 😂
my favorite soundtrack is the Moon stage 😂
I had this game as a kid! Can you get this on PC?
The diamonds made you feel you doing something
I 💗 nice Nintendo complete..😀
"D d d danger, must be...hind you!!!"
My whole childhood I wondered what on earth "daring do bad and good luck tales" was supposed to mean.
I also didn't understand Tails' name, Miles Prower, until I was out of high school. I felt very silly.
This turned all Castlevania at the end!
Nostalgia engage!
so much better than the remaster, my god that game is horrible
Cool.
I wonder why there are 2 Louie’s
I just came here for the moon level...
27:28 Wait, WHAT?!

This NTSC version seems so weird to me... The entire game is faster, but the Amazon Theme(music) is slower..?
i'm so glad i didn't born in the 1800 or something like that otherwise i'll miss all of this beautiful little things!
27:28 THAT MEME SONG
Is it me, or is it that this game reminds me of Super Mario Bros. 2 for the NES?
These games update need inflation prices on the gems 💎 😂
