Rocket league truely is a game that will take somebody who believes they’re pretty good at video games and physically abuse them to show them how shit they really are.
I’ve seen this happen to a ton of friends and my brother. They come into it thinking they’re gonna be good and say the game doesn’t look hard. Then they play with me (diamond 2- champ 1 is where my ranks hangs around.)and make the excuse that I’ve just been playing longer and they can’t do well in the lobbies were put in. So they play solo ranked and when I ask where they placed they always say they got somewhere between silver 1 and gold 2.
I’ve only had one person I’ve gotten into the game have a good first rank. That guy plays a ton of racing and driving games tho. From super arcade like to hyper realistic simulators. So driving and flying mechanics are something he’s pretty damn good at in most games. He got plat 2 as his first rank.

Tons of games have a target lock on feature that makes your camera view automatically follow targets (fighting a dragon in elder ring is a good example of that)
When you’re flying fighter jets in a game you’re position is constantly changing as well as your targets, you have to follow them with your camera and keep the nose of your plane pointed at them to get a radar lock.
Yeah racing games and flying games aren’t gonna make you have accurate shots. But they will give you basic car control and a basic idea of what it likes to do aerials and how to control the car in the air.
Yeah he’s not power sliding to catch the ball in a dribble, not doing any crazy aerials, just using basic ass methods. Like I said, it’s plat 2. You don’t have to be crazy good or anything to get there.
Like shit when I first started playing my rank was gold 3 and I was plat 2 within a few days.
I don’t see why it’s so hard to believe that somebody else got plat 2 as their first rank considering that person already understands the basic controls and feel for the game and also had friend (me) explain positioning and rotating to them.
I got gold 2 with zero tips or help and with zero experience to flying games and a long past in skateboarding. ( I honestly feel like skating gave me a small advantage when I first started playing. If you think of your car as a skateboard you can kinda visualize what type of trick the car is doing and you’ll know the best way to complete the flip/spin allowing you to recover faster.

This is exactly what is do. Im bad at the game so it doesnt work everytime, but as soon as someone is toxic put the gas on and send it right back to them. The toxic people are normally just very insecure i find so its easier to get in their heads, but they can't get in mine because i have no delusion about my limited ability in the game.
