- Its been 2 years since Kingdom Hearts 4 was revealed and not much on the game has surfaced since. Hopefully 2024 will provide us with an update on where the development of the project is at, but for the meantime here's a recap of everything we know so far.

If you think the wait for KH4 has been long… keep this in mind. I was 10 when KH1 released. 13 when KH2 released and… 27 when KH3 released. At this point I’d be surprised if 4 came out before my age starts with the same number.

Strelitzia being there and explaining that Quadratum is an "Afterworld" made me think that it implies that everyone who has died in the Keyblade war also ended up there.

not entirely. otherwise ephemer should be there too as he also most likely died. i mean why else would there be an ephemer statue in the khml trailers? maybe he is in quadratum but i thought ephemer got stuck in the past when he escaped to reality.... only time will tell tbh.

My thoughts are that characters who die under specific circumstances end up in Quadratum. And instead of the usual dying, they "disappear." In KH, when a character normally dies, they go to the Final World, which is still accessible, but maybe when they "disappear," they go to Quadratum.
A thought occurs: if Quadratum is considered a "fictional" reality within the Disney universe, then the reverse is likely also true. And with the home base being a modern apartment, I surmise that the interface through which Sora accesses Disney worlds will be, in effect… *the Disney+ dashboard* .

5:44 Nomura confirms what I've believed about KH for years. That the FF were only there as clickbait to rope people in and now they largely dont have room for them now that they got their own full roster of characters. Not having Ignis from FF15 as part of the cooking mini game was a missed opportunity tho.
to be fair, given nomura’s history with FF15, i’m not sure if he’d ever want to add 15 characters in KH

I think a lot of us tend to forget that the kh-verse likes to follow a sort of dream logic for why things happen, "how" tends to be less important than "why"and I think we should keep that in mind in reference to the lore going forward!

I think there's a good chance we could still see the big shoes in KH4, I'm pretty sure nomura said that sora would retain his more cartoony appearance in the disney worlds.

I remember when kh2 was still relatively new, people hated the reaction commands and would mock it by saying KH2 was “press triangle to win”
I remember me and my cousin were always saying this 🤣🤣 If in doubt, Triangle to win always works
I mean it’s true though. As much as enjoy the combat in KH2, reaction commands are literally press triangle to win. They look cool, but there’s zero strategy to it. I always wished they randomized it between triangle, X, circle and square.
Reaction commands are amazing, an added layer of gameplay that always results in doing something totally awesome. Also how majority of enemies had totally unique reaction commands was sick c:
@@nickp3949 Randomising the buttons would be cool and would add a layer of complexity but it would still in essence be a QTE reaction-time based "press button to win" moment, so I don't see much of a difference besides the initial learning curve

The social asoect of KH4, with having an apartment-like hub, makes me think of 358/2 Days, how it was mission based with roxas always starting at the castle and going out from there
If it will be something like 358/2 days, I would love to see a more refined and perfected system of the days system with some elements of KH3 and ReMind because I think that could be fun and I loved some parts of Days like the mission structure but hated the panel system.
If they give us Cody Christian as Cloud in Kingdom hearts 4…I WILL LOSE IT!!!!

Seeing the Xehanort thing made me realize that it would be cool to see him in Quadratum. Kind of like visiting a prisoner in jail after they have been defeated. That sounded worse than I intended, but I think it would be cool as maybe like an easter egg or something

I could definitely see Xehanort coming back as he did “die” in KH3. So depending on what the rules are exactly for being reborn in unreality; we might see him there.
This is why we really need Missing Link to release. I'm sure Sigurd knows exactly how that's all laid out. With him being such a mysterious character that is most likely *the* missing link between the time of Union X and Sora's story, I almost guarantee we'll get the answers (at least some) in Missing Link, that KH4 will likely connect the dots for.
I love Xehanort & wouldn't mind at all if he stepped in somehow as one of Sora's Teammates when in Quadratum.

I personally hope they bring Drive Forms back. That was one of my favorite mechanics in KH2

Hey, you know what? That'd be awesome! I'd love a Mirage Arena 2.0 world( similar to BBS) but with the ability to choose one of several characters and then a mini game or arena fight. Also, it would be awesome if online play could be implemented here.
Here's an idea. Maybe shibuya is like a hub city and it acts like a 3d mario game would. Like mario 64 peaches castle is like a hub world an you go into a painting to get to the other worlds. Mario sunshine is the same. So maybe something like that.

That opening line "Kingdom Hearts Four, or should I say Kingdom Hearts looks like we're waiting some more." WAS HILARIOUS!
As much as I'm looking forward to KH4, it will be disappointing if they don't explain anything from the mobile games and just expect you to know who all these characters are and their stories from thousands of years ago, considering Union X (whatever all the other names are, Dark road etc.) cant even be played anymore and is a slide show of hundreds of stories with 95% of it being filler is a good enough reason in my book to either remaster the game in a way that's digestible to the players that missed out or somehow integrate it into KH4 in a way where if you missed it, it wont ruin the experience. Its going to be tough if missing link is extremely required on top of Union X to understand what's happening in KH4. A little frustrating imo, considering Sora has no idea who any of these people are anyway and they could explain it more often in main title games rather than expecting the fan base to have a Bachelors degree in the lore from a mobile game with gacha mechanics that could have turned players off from the game before the story was ever finished.
Just my thoughts , I will always love this series, I just want everyone to have a good time with KH4 without being confused :)

Dog, theres like... SO MUCH LORE FROM THE MOBILE GAMES, they can't just explain that shit in the cutscenes, otherwise we get like a 5 hour lore dump bare minimum, and a lot of this shit wouldn't even be KNOWN by any of the characters, like a lot of dark road is xehanorts personal journey, not a lot people know that.
What we can hope for is that we get another adaptation of those stories, like back cover, but otherwise, read a youtube summary, they are only a couple hours long.
@@dattos140 Well, they already did that once. Sora forgot the events of COM and people jumping from KH directly into KHII could discover its events after the fact just like Sora. Of course we didn't learn all the details of the story but we had the keys to just play KH I and II without being (too) lost.
This time, Sora didn't forget the story of the mobile games, he didn't live it at all. At one point, it will be necessary for him to learn what happened and people who didn't keep up with the X saga will just learn of these events the same way Sora himself will ^^
The only rason they didn't do something like that in KHIII for 358, BBS, Coded and 3D is because we had the HD remixes of those games on the same consoles as KHIII.
I would love a remake of the X games but I don't think we'll get one before the release of KHIV, the KHII way of catching up is way more likely.
Agreed they kinda dropped the ball with KH3 that game couldve been bigger than FFXV but its already forgotten cause it was hella lackluster and thats cause of the story

They could just have an option for a 30 minute lore dump cutscene in an option on the main menu. Just for the people who care about the lore. Just throwing ideas around.
I think Scrap & Build is actually sort of like synthesizing. You obtain materials like in the other games and craft various attacks like the drill. Perhaps even linked to different keyblades.
I just need Neku to return. I wish we could’ve used him if we beat DDD with Sora and Riku using the pin system from twewy would’ve been crazy

At this point, Nomura should become the new CEO of Disney. It's like he's the only one left officially creating stuff that harkens back to Disney's last golden age (apart from that "Once upon a Studio" short that they released last year). Also, him working on Star Wars content might be the best thing to happen to this franchise in decades.
15:55 when talking about young Xehanort at the place in Shaboiya I thought of the flantastic seven maybe his way of helping sora is find the fragments of him and put them to rest to get the orichalcum plus

You know what would be sick some "Chrono" and The Bouncer refrences in Quadratum we got Enhander refrences in 3 so they arent against using older more obscure ips
I like the idea of using properties that aren’t typically used in Kh. Star Wars, X-men, but also I could see them pulling a DDD and it’s Riku with Donald and goofy for the first half for the Disney worlds. And the when sora makes it back he takes back over? Idk just shooting ideas
Ways to implement FF characters without overshadowing KH's story/original characters:
1) Arena battles
2) Side quests / Mini games
3) Optional Boss Fights / Secret bosses
4) Summons
5) Shops
Sure, KH doesn't NEED them, but we WANT them
Would be cool if they did the live-action movies like Pete the dragon and Mary Poppins as well as star wars

Gonna be so dope if we finally get sidequests with KH4 and then be able to interact with popular characters from different IPs in the world on the daily.. and maybe we’ll get to customize our room with Disney/Square Enix decor from them sidequests or from shops. Quadratum got so much potential….
@@nemi9217 imagine preparing to go to a world for a set amount of days and then having a certain amount of days to defeat the boss of that world. Definitely not how it would work, but I think it's a cool concept since it works very well in persona

If they are going to pull Final Fantasy from the game, I want the story of the characters to be resolved first.

Xehanort as an ally, as a tragic, mentor figure after all that has happened sounds fitting. I don't think they have to put him anywhere near the spotlight, but I can believe that not only the "good-guys" end up in Quadratum.

I would suggest about the final fantasy character problem is that let the Twilight town Gang and the Land of Departure gang not appear in KH4 and just let them be in DLC.
It makes sense considering the fact that they put the FF characters back in the DLC.
Let KH4 bring back it's roots.
Knowing the creator of kingdom hearts I have a feeling there could possibly be a mini game inside the hotel room that gives hints of a dlc for kh4 or possibly even a hint of the next kh after kh4
I'm absolutely calling it. Sigurd is Luxord. It doesn't match the nobody naming scheme, but I think he just put Lux in his name to spite Luxu/Xigbar. Possibly he's been working with Brain for a long time after Brain was possessed by Luxu and wants to help him get revenge.

I’m getting vibes of power and responsibility being a theme for kh4. Got my Spidey senses tingling
One of the details that really stood out to me is, how can Sora still travel to other worlds, using the apartment as a base of operations, exactly? I thought that he was actually trapped in Quadratum, due to losing his world traversal powers. Abusing the Power of Waking caused nature (or whatever force governs the cosmic ways of the universe) to banish him from his own reality, sending Sora to the Realm of Fiction. Even Sigurd says in the trailer that he "won't be able to return to the world that he came from", or something similar.
Other than that bit of confusion, I am still really hyped for any kind of KH news. Even Missing Link mostly has my attention now, and may very well be the first mobile KH title that I play (if my phone can actually run it). Thanks for this recap video, Cynical!
I'm glad I'm not the only one that wants to see Younger Xehanort as a party member in KH4!

regarding quadratum being shibuya, i'm gonna speculate that nomura's answer is a bit of a red herring. my theory is that he's telling the truth but it's gonna be a situation like in dream drop distance or the 2 twilight towns in kh2 where there'll be 2 versions of the same world. sora will be in quadratum but there'll be an alternate version of it that would be TWEWY's shibuya, and sora somehow accidentally winds up there and meets the TWEWY cast again
Plot twist sora spends the whole of kh4 relearning the power of waking for a 3rd time

Strelitzia was sent to Quadratum by Luxu, he took the data backup of her heart in the arc and used one of the pods to send her somewhere, potentially to Quadratum. Scientist Terranort was looking for a way to reach that new reality and made a similar machine, using Kairi as a guinea pig, although the experiment did not succeed, she was sent to Destiny Islands.
Sora also didn't die, he was banned from reality for cheating (yes), Y.Xehanort hints to the outcome of those who abuse the Power of Waking as reality itself ejecting them.
So while ending up in Quadratum is an afterlife, I think it's more in an ascension/transcendence kind of way rather than simply dying, not everyone that dies ends up in there, only a select few with very specific circumstances.
I sure hope the fan-favorite Geno deserves a spotlight in this game!
I’d love to see worlds involved with Star Wars, Marvel, AND Final Fantasy. Obvi Disney and Pixar worlds are a given BUT it would be cool to have 4-5 worlds based on Disney and Pixar and 3-4 worlds based on the square and other Disney acquired IPs. Like imagine sora experiencing the devastation that is Spira, or going through Limsa Lominsa, or visiting Midgar on Gaia!
My personal theory about visiting Disney worlds is that Sora will go to sleep and visit them then, hence why the apartment is a hub. Similar to how Riku can sleep and go to Quadratum, Sora can sleep and go to Disney worlds
personally, i want final fantasy characters, even if its just literally 1 or 2, like Noctis and Ardyn, or like, Squall and Sephiroth. I think harking back to Squall being prominent in Traverse Town, and giving him some spotlight and then a weird contrast of Sephiroth making an appearance without Cloud ever, would be very interesting, perhaps a young Ever Crisis Sephiroth.
playing into the "Squall is dead in FF8" theory, and playing around with it in KH4, would be absolutely bonkers. and Noctis and Ardyn being kind of like a phantom of sorts, of something Nomura wants but couldnt get his way, could clash in ways with Quadratum characters.
One thing i will say tho, i want no Pixar and as few western people working on the Disney front as much as possible,id like to see how itd be handled by Japanese people on the Disney front, to experience a "Japanese Disney" if you will.
I don't have faith in Pixar, the MCU, or the Star Wars movies anymore.
Imagine if we get to see a The Book of Life world, that will be really awesome to see Sora, Donald, and Goofy in the style of Jorge R. Gutierrez, who directed and designed the characters for the movie. (The Book of Life is owned by Fox, and Fox is owned by Disney, so it’s possible to see it.)
Kh4 needs to introduce Blue Sky worlds
Three things. 1). Idk how Nomura thought the reaction commands weren't well received. That initial multi-block you do against Sepiroth was 🔥. 2). PLEASE BRING BACK DRIVE FORMS. That was a way cooler mechanic that having KeyBlade forms. 3). If you're going to have these giant maps, have secret areas or hidden chests to find like in KH2. KH3's maps were huge with nothing to do or find for the most part.
The drive is not coming back, Keyblade transformations have replaced them, pretty much since the lingering will fight, and I think you mean kh1, chests in kh2 are not hidden at all, not even a little bit.
You must not be aware but reaction command was very criticized at launch.
When the game first dropped, people hated it.
@@Nhoadkoko I like the reaction commands for regular enemies, but not for bosses, basically turns them into a glorified cutscene which is boring to play.

I think the scrap and build thing is related to the new unreal engine 5 capabilities, like being able to build and destroy structures in the environment
Anyone else hoping that we'd get more Disney Characters but Sora would be visiting Final Fantasy worlds? Where the Final Fantasy characters he interacts with seem to be mirrors of the ones he knows but are different enough (meaning like their actual selves) creating the impression of reality versus fiction, where as far as people like Sora or Riku are concerned the reality is is that Tidus and Wakka are on Destiny Islands but Tidus and Wakka in the Final Fantasy world are living in a world where that is just nuts because Sin was just defeated.
I had this idea because I really, REALLY want Sora to go to the Gold Saucer and get his own chocobo.

@@quinnhouk5369Only the biggest casino in all of Final Fantasy. Chocobo racing, card games, jumping puzzles, fashion contests, shooting rides, tournaments, a lottery, chocobo breeding for the races, scratch tickets.
Originally brought in to Final Fantasy in Final Fantasy 7 where you can unlock tons of things when playing as Cloud it made a glorious return in Final Fantasy 14 and gamers all over the world spend all their time there.

In the original the Gold Saucer well after Midgard.
I’ve read on old forums that the FF characters in KH are alternative versions of themselves, and as such their home worlds are actually the original worlds in the game.
Seeing stuff like both Persona and Twewy being referenced already sounds good to me,although my only concern was that KH may not feel like KH but i think Sora simply being put into another world shows that they want to focus on his world more. I'm sure we will get disney worlds but they may be few in numbers.

lol. You know what’s funny? I’m at Disney fighting Xehanort and Riku and Kairi are on the ground and then Clive shows up and helps me out while I revive Riku and Kairi. I’m in my Sora KH3 cosplay. Then Clive and I fight Xehanort together and it is awesome
Just saw a video from a TH-camr called ‘OCDsaster’. In it, he explains when he believes KH4 will release and it makes 100% sense… January or February of 2025. That means ONE YEAR from now. I think we will get many trailers in the coming months. Let’s get those turkey legs
Quite a lot of info there but, I *DEFINITELY* need to read on the lore with Ventus cause the darkness made him do WHAT!?
Watching this vid while replaying Persona 5 royal (my 2nd fav game behind kh2). I would love social mechanics in kh4 similar to persona but im not to sure how well that would work. Unless they literally do that like in pereona were you would gain new strength and abilities by hanging out with various people. A man can dream of a strange kh/persona hybrid game 😌
I'm going to be honest. For the most part I am excited for what you recapped and what some of your predictions sound like.
Especially the part of the appartment we saw in the trailer being like a base of operations sound really interesting.
The one thing I would rather not see, however, is a Star Wars world. I have a "The less I have to do with SW the better" relationship with the franchise.
I don't hate it, just think it quite overrated - the same way others would think Harry Potter, Pokémon or the MCU is overrated - and fell asleep while trying to watch one of the movies when I was in my teens.
*HOWEVER* (And I put that word in bold and capslock, because I don't want people to start hating on me or getting the wrong idea), If there is a SW world in the game, I will simply play through it - probably skip all of the cutscenes and move on.
The fans of the SW franchise might think that that is me being disrespectful to them and the franchise, but I'd like to point out that I could've, out of my sheer disinterest for the franchise and how the hype sometimes annoys me, voiced my desire not to see the franchise in KH in a lot stronger manner.
I am *NOT* hating on the franchise, so don't go putting words in my mouth.
And those who want to claim that I don't love the franchise because I never watched it, look back to the end of the third paragraph. I *tried* watching the movies and bloody well fell asleep.
we need to know when does it comes out in 2024
I can only really hope that they add an enemy step mechanic. I want a badass combat system

I almost want to say that the current Quadratum World is a World between Life and Death but i dont know yet.
It would first explain soras and Strelitzia being in this World, and could also explain Donald n Goofy searching for Sora and literally asking the God of Death and God of the underworld
I know it wont happen but would be cool if we could use heartless and nobody abilities.like in the middle of the combo or beginning even just whip out a claw from a shadow,or huge belly bump from the huge bois,even a scythe swip attack from those nobodies from kh3 or breakdance on em like kh2.not saying like pokemon to summon them but actually have sora using there abilities somehow.I mean he's been beating up shadows for years even turned into one. At least i hope dark sora gets some special love in kh4
No matter how you try to slice it, I think Strelitzia being pretty much the same age/appearance as in UX forebodes some bad things for Sora and co. It's been hundreds or a thousand plus years since Strelitzias death on the Disneyverse side of reality, and she looks the same in Quadratum. I fear a scenario where everyone ages and passes on never seeing Sora again, while Sora either changes beyond recognition or stays roughly the same.
Also I would take the "afterlife" tidbit from Strelitzia with a grain of salt. I think she's mistaken. Sora didn't die, he violated the laws of nature and was removed by the universe. And we see a strange phantom of Strelitzia in a white coat in UX, possibly hinting something more is going on with her than simply dying. Besides it's been shown that people who simply pass on in the KH side just return to KH.
Could be that they are taking Sora to new versions of familiar worlds? Like revisiting Alice in Wonderland through the Tim Burton version? Or my personal theory have Sora visit new worlds all together while Riku gets to revisit old ones on his search for Sora?
Riku goes to Quadratum at the end of Melody of Memory; That aside, you're FAR from the first person to come up with this.
Riku is already in Quadratum, so this doesn't hold up. Fun to think about, but I highly doubt it.

If they are going to bring Xehanort back in the next saga, then they better bring back Young Eraqus too. He's been a cool character during Dark Road. Heck why stop there, bring back the others as well. I liked Vor.

if we actually get a star wars world I'd love to get a lightsaber keyblade and have the option to change the color of it to any of the different lightsaber colors and maybe have some mini games where if you win the mini games you unlock the different colors that would be awesome

@@teamdog8406 To be honest, I think it'd be better if it started from Phantom Menace; Not only would it be good for adding interest to future revisits, but it even lines up with when Kingdom Hearts 1 released back in 2002 as the prequels were going on right around the release of the first two games, Chain of Memories, and Coded. Besides, we've all wanted a Darth Maul boss fight in Kingdom Hearts at some point or another.

I have some outrageous wishes for worlds to visit... But I won't bother naming them. Anyway- I hope that the game comes out COMPLEATLY finished and with a physical copy to buy!
