Bit of music trivia: this game's leitmotif (during the title screen, text scrawls, game overs, music box, endings, and credits) is "Violin Sonata in G Minor", aka "The Devil's Trill" by Giuseppe Tartini. It's actually my favorite violin piece, so I was thrilled when I heard it and thought I would share.
Also, Tartini allegedly had a dream where he made a deal with the Devil: the Devil would be his servant and teacher in exchange for his soul. Tartini passed his violin to the Devil at some point and he played that sonata. "The Devil's Trill" was an attempt to recreate the sonata from his dream. Nice how it parallels this game's backstory of the mother dreaming of the Devil and making a deal with him.

The references in the library made me lose it each time.
They were pretty good! I always appreciate little injoke compilations like that in games. Put them in a side, optional area so players who don't care don't have to read them, and shove them all in one place so they don't break the atmosphere of the actual game itself.

Theres a game called yakuza: like a dragon out rn. Binding of Isaac is a classic game. Those were the ones I got that Manly didnt talk about.

I tried to make the end of the game clearer, this is practically a spoiler if you haven't finished the video

For those who did not understand the story that the game presents, that woman had lost her baby, and because of that she performed a ritual to be able to revive it, but the price for this ritual was to offer the souls of the one she loved, and that's what she did, apparently she offered her own soul and murdered the other members of the house and started to perform this ritual, however she was not strong enough to finish it, but it can be noticed that in the end where the 'protagonist ' of the game offers its own body to the woman, she returns with her strength and realizes what she had done, and in turn tries to stop the ritual, this in my view being an alternative ending. At the possible real end of the game, the ritual is finished, and the child is revived, as is the mother's will.

I really liked these "surrealistic cut scenes" takes by recent retrospect horror games. I think it was first taken to glory by that biblical horror game Faith, which I think inspired this game, considering the similarity that could be crossed between the two game.
And all those interesting death sequence, especially the one with hanged man -They ARE creative. Sudden deaths were unfair and frankly annoying, but when they are did this way, I think it is worthwhile to see all of them! You get to see creepy cut scene! And it isn't really that, sudden. You could see most of them coming anyway.
Those sudden death together with this game's tragic story and manor setting, this game also reminded me of my favorite RPG Maker horror game - the Witch's House. I love when the horror game offers a lot of curious pieces to be explored by players. Just like Maldo19 said in the end "...you can deduce a lot of stuff". It was satisfying when plots fall into places.
Aside of those, there are still a lot of nuances that are did nicely. Such as the health(similar to RE7), and Map for movement. This game doesn't really did anything new or innovative, but they used the right thing and the result is a simplistic but good game.
The only thing I think is not done correctly in this game is perhaps the ghost woman(Isabel is it?) attacking. I liked how "something bad is going to happen" is foreshadowing, alerting while also makes players feel uneasy at first. But afterward it just don't really feel any threatening anymore. MBH gets attacked anyway when he first tried hiding from Isabel inside the cabinet/box/etc, though it's frankly his bad for using it despite being in same location with the attacker. After that, when combined with how easy it is to outrun the ghost, MBH doesn't even explicitly bother with the messages and attacks anymore. All those hiding spots and healing consumables becomes irrelevant to the gameplay.
Finally, from an art hobbyist's perspective - I think this game really captures the essentials of these 90's simplistic graphic style. The creativity was limited by technical limitations, but under limitations, people only pushed creativity even further. This game used 8 bit-colors, I believed, yet everything can be understood easily with single glance. The graphic and the UI - straight to the point and does what they should.
This is a long comment with probably no one to read it. The reason I'm writing this down anyway is because of that letter at the end by Maldo19. I always felt like their games always tried explored creativity. It is like a blow of fresh air into the retrospective horror game genre. Albeit sometimes their game is not really polished, but given that it is made by one person in a short amount of time, it is very excellent nevertheless. Keep going at it, Maldo19!

There was only one unfair death, with the baby. The rest gave plenty of warning.
In the hiding part, you're supposed to not peek through the hiding spot n close the fov fully when she's near. It's not communicated well but other LPers were able to figure it out so it should be somewhat intuitive if you try it yourself

I thought the reason why the ghost still attacked when he hid was because she saw him and the ghost was like *"Señora, I just saw you get in the box, I'm dead not blind"*
But I didn't realize looking at her from the hiding spot would alert her to your location
The first bad end reminds me of the original Clock Tower game. The dev seems to have a lot of love for the genre and games in general. I hope Manly can showcase more of their stuff.
Yeah, same. SNES Clock Tower is great! There's even two variations you can get of the "try to leave in the car early and die" ending!
In fact, Clock Tower is one of the first games I can recall that actually indicated which endings you've gotten. I mean, sure, plenty of games before that had multiple endings, but I can't recall any that actually had a separate menu on the main screen checklisting them like that.

I wish we found out what the side effect of the pills were, like if you took too many you might have gotten a bad ending where you go crazy? Other than that a good game and a fun watch.
That would make sense, given the public's poor understanding of mental illnesses and drugs in the era of gameboy.

The saddest one is the one with the dog; he begins to cry after seeing his ball, the only connection with his life he had left. And the father; he had seen what he had become and couldn’t handle it, he saw what he had done and regretted everything. This whole game is so sad to me with the scenes where the candles are put out.
The grandmother had been blindfolded so she didn’t have to see the candle being put out, like she had wished she had when she witnessed the mother kill everyone. The little brother must have been hidden in the cage so he couldn’t interfere like he wanted to before being sacrificed himself. The music box made him fall asleep as a reminder of how he was put to sleep with a music box by his mother before the events of this game. The small details!!
Yeah, the dog one made me sad instantly, on the verge of tears actually. Something so small but touching

Ending 5 if 5 - A new life:- i feel like the "Devil" knew the baba wouldve died from starvation when the ritual was complete cause there was NO ONE around to help it, thats why they waited for You to come by & look after it....unless the "Devil" took over it....uhoh, you might have to be careful lol xxx

I just randomly found this channel and have been pretty much binge watching it. There's something about Manly's commentary that is so chill and the opposite of obnoxious. He's got a pleasant voice, he doesn't try too hard to be funny, he seems to really enjoy any game he plays... I dig the content man, subscribed!
I feel like the color of the screen could actually mean something. Like red could mean there’s some kind of danger you could come across in that room. Blue would be normal. Green could be where there’s a hiding spot/save. Maybe yellow is where there’s a useful tool in the room. It’s an interesting idea.
This game was so good, from music to setting and monster design. It's amazing

Wow, that was an incredible game. The story was really tragic, and I love the way everything comes together to tell you exactly what you have to do to get each ending. It made all the puzzles feel very logical, while having every step of it tell a bit more of the story. It doesn't feel quite as SCARY scary as the other games, but the atmosphere and creepiness was really good, like it felt very suspenseful the whole time
The well looked like a basket, and I read "wheelchair" as "weaselchair" and became so confused. 11/10 great experience.
That was a great game and the author seems like a nice guy. I love the death animations.

There's both, added in new update. You can overdose on pills, or follow instructions found in blood room, enter blood hole, and become the devils servant, raising the baby for the devil

This was excellent, nice and creepy. This poor family went through so much, not to mention all our protagonist went through to find the truth and end this curse. The puzzles were good, the scares certainly effective, and I did quite enjoy all the references those books had. I am of course happy to see Manly's soul make a cameo, that was excellent. Good to have another retro game offer the visual filters, I'm a fan of having options. Hats off to the dev, they did a good here and I'll be keeping an eye out for any future game from them.
So, I just read all the Junji Ito I could recently, and the hole gave me flashbacks.
I went for silent hill 4 when I saw the hole as Henry did have a hole in his bathroom in the game

I really liked this story & game - the interweaving of the characters & how the little bits that you learned about them actually mattered to the puzzles. I appreciated the level of detail. It looks like it will be enjoyable to play without the insane chases, obtuse puzzles, or convoluted backtracking that so many other games seem to think are 'fun'. I also applaud the "go home" ending turning out bad... you usually just escape without consequence. Not here.
And of course as a long-time fangirl, I was ecstatic to see MBH's soul on a note in the trashcan - that was just great!!! Nice playthrough & voice acting too!

so from what im getting at this is that that lady performed a ritual so she could either protect or have a baby but it cost the lives of all her other family members...?

Right so let's start with the kid because we get the most exposition from his diary. The kid (Gabriel) has an older brother named Jaime and a dog named Cazán. Their parents died in an accident and both of them come to live with their grandmother, Gloria. Jaime eventually brings his "lover" (Isabel) home and all is well until their baby (Javier) dies. Isabel then has a dream in which the "devil" (not sure why "devil" was in quotes in-game) instructs her on how to resurrect him, the black book is involved somewhere there, and 4 sacrifices are required. Isabel promptly goes nuts and kills the family (presumably except for Jaime, who hanged himself).
As for the order, I believe it started with Cazán. Gabriel tried to protect Cazán and kill Isabel but fails, though Jaime was probably complicit in this (in Gabriel's mind he says "Brother... How could you?"). Isabel says herself on the path to ending 4 that she forced Gloria to watch (which relates to how she needs a blindfold for her candle to be snuffed out). I'm guessing Jaime soon dies not soon after and I'm not sure how Isabel herself died.
At the beginning of the game, she is still trying to complete the ritual, which she can't do because uhh... reasons? Or maybe relighting the candles (in the dark) is what she had to do, and she can't because she's now dead?
Edit: Ending 5 is you freeing their souls and... somehow ending up with a resurrected Javier.

Does anything actually scare this guy? I mean, he does get jumped a lot, but to my knowledge: Manly has never been truly creeped out or genuinely scared, he has... always... remained brave in the face of all horror games since 2018 and onwards.
Remember everyone: Jumpscares don't count, if you can find me a video clip where he's genuinely unsettled and scared in a recent title / upload, let me know. Otherwise I will keep having the mindset that yes: He is a badass, and yes: he has BALLS of STEEL.
I just got back from a seven year stint in Chile... it is a very interesting country, and nothing like anyone imagines a South American country to be like.
I definitely enjoyed it there, but I am glad to be back in Hawaii.
Maybe it's just me but getting stuck with a baby isn't the "best ending."
