If you used your loft for purely storage, not habitable, can you have a staircase without the height restrictions?

Robin, wouldn't a shed dormer give more loft headroom than a gable dormer for lower cost in this conversion ? Also, what about using a regular staircase with a landing and dog-leg as an alternative ?

Hi Robin, I have a very similar house and considering the convert my loft for an extra bedroom with a small ensuite. How come you didn't put the staircase in the corridor on either ends? And also if you would have changed the stairs to a left hand one ( instead of Right handed one) it would probably go nicely about the current stairs. or am I missing something here?

So i get what you're trying to explain but your example wasnt exactly representative of a real world scenario where you would be placing the stair case. Also the house model used doesnt seem to be that typical of those used in the UK. Most seem to have stair cases running along the sides of the house rather than up through the middle.
