I enjoyed the sit down, thoughtful review. Feels more real. Empire of the Sun is the best book I've read in 2024. Amazing novel.

The Doctor Sleep book is a worthy sequel to The Shining. Props to director Mike Flanagan for successfully navigating and merging the cinematic and book versions into the Doctor Sleep movie. A cat with a Kevin Costner face! Now, there's an image that will be hard to forget. Keep on reading!

Mike Flanagan should be required for any King adaptation. Rebecca Ferguson killed it as Rose the Hat.

Wild. I just started watching Doctor Sleep (streaming on Prime) last night. Extremely impressive adaptation. I love the way Mike Flanagan incorporated canon elements of The Shining movie and book into the film. And of course Doctor Sleep is an excellent book as well. Easily in my top-20 King books

You mentioned bad parenting being mildly autobiographical. George R.R. Martin did an interview with Stephen King and King mentioned that when he was about 5 years old, his dad went to the store for a pack of cigarettes and never came back. So I imagine he still had some lingering resentment towards his father for that

Such a great book. I agree with your opinion that Doctor Sleep is a better book. Rose is a great King Character probably one of my favorite king characters but Larry Underwood is my favorite King character so far.

Just because i have so much respect for the Stanley Kubrick movie, i was skeptical of a sequel.
But the book (like most Stephen King books) is great. And the movie adaptation was also surprisingly good (very smartly ties into both the original shining book AND Kubrick movie)

Call me Ishmael..That's my name. Brian you're probably right again about the Stephen King Books curse. I remember in 2007 my wife's car crashed while I was reading the part about the Wendigo in PET SEMATARY. I was unable to touch the book again for years. I donated my copy and had to purchase another edition of this title as well as other SK titles. Now the curse is gone, after the Pastor recited Psalm 91 among other chapters from 1John and Revelation. This may sound funny to you but that's the whole truth. Thank God you overcame the negative energy invoked by the book. As SK himself said once about the diabolical presenceand satanic contentsof his works: the devil has a sweet voice. Thanks Brian for your patience

Pardon me my ignorance as I have no idea what these two words are supposed to refer to.

d@@إسماعيلسعيد-خ8ذ I believe Stephenmorton is referring to the John Carpenter movie "in the Mouth of Madness" where Sutter Cane is a stand in for Stephen King (though he looks more like Neil Gaiman) who's fiction is powerful enough to either drive people mad, or maybe through cultural hegemony, turn the fiction into reality. Very creepy Lovecraftian nightmare logic film, great if you like that sort of thing.
Interesting story; since you bought another copy of Pet Sematary, you must think it's particular copies of books that can be cursed, rather then the work itself. I'm curious, why did you donate that copy rather then destroy it? Also, are you just too big a King fan not to finish it somehow, with your pastors blessing?

Thank you so much for your comments. I will make sure to watch the said movie.
I should have destroyed the copy, along with other works by the same author rather than donating them that Crossed my mind only months later, when the people I have away the books stopped acting friendly without me. Who knows what disaster these copies brought upon them? I do believe there are copies more cursed than others. I discover that placing DESPERATION on top of all my Stephen King collection deactivate the curse, because in that particular novel God (The Holy Trinity ) plays the major role to defea Tak Anlah the powerful but false deity. Of course, on top of all that I placed King James Authorized Version of the Holyrood Scriptures. I did not destroy any Stephen King Books because they were too precious to destroy. My wife and Daughters remind me that SK himself was not immune to the curses of his works. You know the background to PET SEMATARY and how he almost was about to face a similar situation in his own life when he wrote the book. MISERY, too, is very close to the car accident he had on the highway and so on. My brothers, my daughters, and four of my colleagues on the same University are immune and shielded from the SK curse. But they understand very well what I'm telling them, notice taking it lightly. Thanks for your patience and have a great day

The book and movie for Doctor Sleep are decent, but I would've been fine without a sequel to The Shining.

Brain with how intelligent you are, and with all the books you have read throughout your life, you have greater wisdom than most men. Go read the Bible cover to cover and tell me that was written by men. Nothing even comes close. Its impossible. Jesus told me to click on your channel and to tell you this. We are very close to the end. The entire world is going to collapse at once. Truly ask Christ to prove he is real and read the word cover to cover. The worst years to ever happen to mankind are about to start, but you won't have to be here if you accept his free gift. Just know that this is a spiritual war, so the enemy will have you read this and will do anything he can to influence you not too. Im going to pray for you. I am also going to read your work here very soon. I believe in you.
