The clash between photo-realistic environment and the cartoony dinosaur designs I think is also one of the biggest reasons this movie tanked. Like the father Rex and the daughter Rex look pretty damn good design wise, but the son looks like he’s literally made out of custard

I liked this movie at first, but as I rewatched it, it became a crack fest, especially the scene of them eating the bad berries. I will say the scene that was the most visually stunning was the dad and Arlo running through the fields of fireflies was top-notch. One thing that sticks with me as an LMFAO moment was when Arlo says, "Alright you cluckers" Basically it is just a kid friendly version of "Alright you fuckers" Disney and Pixar slipped into the movie

  • @dogmom9991
    @dogmom9991 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

One thing about the villains that I'm noticing upon rewatching the movie is that they behave more like ACTUAL dinosaurs than all of the other characters. Yeah, Spot is practically a dog, but this is a world in which the dinosaurs are meant to be the dominant species, so they are meant to be more like people. The dinosaurs in this world can tend to farms, herd cattle, and own pets; they roar, but that's just about it. But the villain dinos hunt, they fight over food, they will scavenge, and yet they can still communicate with Arlo and try to convince him they are his friends. It makes them appear less civilized than Arlo, while simultaneously capable of playing the role of a helpful adult to manipulate him for their own gain.

@@Alteori remember the novel Mark of the Conifer I told you about? I took the belief in Sol as their religion, and made the Venatosaur (first off I gave them feathers) the ones who develop all the "primitive" technology as demonstrated by that one Australian guy who has a channel by the same name. They know about basic medicine and composting and utilize compost to fuel fire for smoking and heat and lighting. They utilize salts to preserve meats as well as fish. The herbivores will farm as well and do irrigation... its all there, its dinotopia esque (BTW I would love if you do the Dinotopia live action series) but without the humans they are all govern by their belief in Sol as established from the Mark of the Conifer novel.

It’s nice to see a positive review of this movie for once! While it has flaws it’s got plenty going for it!
Someone has probably pointed this out already but, true to form with many of the subtle themes in this film, the reason for Arlo’s egg being so big and him so small is to emphasise the fact that he still has a big story to tell in finding his place. His siblings hatch and their personalities are immediately apparent, but Arlo still needs to find out what he’s capable of. Nice detail if you ask me but would expect nothing else from a Pixar film!

Ah, I remember the first time watching this, the backgrounds and the animation really got me, like: the water after Arlo is swept away, the fireflies scene and the others and oh, those musics!
It makes you laugh, the dinosaurs' funny desings didn't even bother that much 'cause I was that invested, it has some really cool and well animated scenes, very likable characters and the the antagonists, for being just "feral" and acting like any hungry carnivore would, are frickin' nightmare fuel creatures and the movie gives you touching moments too... I love this movie!
I still get emotional when Arlo leaves Spot with his kind and... I'm still salty they didn't put in the movie a scene where baby Arlo would have been attacked by a predator and after that eh would have developed his fears, that scene would have been really cool and a good chance to show how some trauma can still be strong even when you grow up and it would have been a good motivation rather than the classic: "He's the small one, so he must be the one scared of everything by the contract"
4:39 - When a strange-looking animated dinosaur has a better father than you.
8:50 - Those things came right out of SPORE... the dinos too considering the evolution and the funny desings.

16:17 i used to run like that during the pacer tests in elementary school because i found it put less strain on my legs and let me score higher (i took the coolness level = how fast you run thing extremely seriously for some reason) and everyone told me i ran like a mouse

Bruh when the kid was peeing and gave arlo the "wtf dude look away" face it was hilarious. Normally dogs look at you since your supposed to "protect" them while their vulnerable, but this is just a hilarious little joke that was very well placed.

I saw a theory about Arlo being so small when he hatched but the egg so large. So the theory was that he was actually supposed to keep growing and get much larger, because his egg isn't moving or looking like it's about to hatch at all, but then Buck hits it with his stick and that's when it cracks. Arlo hatched too early.

This was such a joy to watch. A fun film I didn't even have to try to think to enjoy
The water, like giraffes, is not in the mouth. I'd imagine they fill their neck while drinking then actually swallow when they stand upright. Or spray it like the dad did

    Spoiler related:
I'm surprised you didn't bring up how during the final confrontation with the Pterasaurs, Spot ripped the membrane of one of the leaders wings, or how the whole reason the leader had been so disturbed and unshakable prior to Well and Spot's facts am was that he'd seen the eye of a storm. On the subject of dinosaurs, do you think you might revisit Darbi since it's been off hiatus for a while?

Glad to see you review more dino/paleo media. I didn't think you would so soon after reviewing PhP, Dominion, & the worst LBT sequel, so this video was a very pleasant surprise. As for the movie itself, I didn't hate it like many ppl did, but I didn't love it either. Put another way, it reminded me of Avatar (I.e. Just OK overall w/very nice scenery & a technically-well-done story that's been done to death).
