Pilgrimage of Asceticism A Bond between Siam Nikaya and Srilankan Nikaya Buddism

- In the era of prosperity of the Buddha of Ayutthaya (Thailand).
Sri Lankan king had strong faith in reviving Buddhism back to
Sri Lanka. therefore sent an ambassador to Ayutthaya in 1751
King of Ayutthaya selected monks who are well versed in the
Tripitaka and obey to dharma discipline, consisting of 18
monks, led by Phra Upali Maha Thera and Phra Ariyamuni Maha
Thera. Along with the other 7 novices, they travelled by a royal
yacht to Sri Lanka to restore the Buddha's teachings for Sri
Lankan buddhists.
According to the historical event made the Thai monks aim to
educate buddhists about the Buddha's teachings in the
territory of Sri Lanka again. In the present Thai monks initiate
the project Dhammayatra Pilgrimage to connect Thailand and
Sri Lanka
Thai monks have been practicing according to the path of
pilgrimage of the Lord Buddha. To practice more the monks
started practicing pilgrimage 761 kilometers From Ayutthaya
to Nan Province.
The pilgrimage of the Thai monks this time for Following the
footsteps of the Lord Buddha while he was alive, the Lord
Buddha and a group of thousands of monks followed him to
pilgrimage to educate people in the cities as many as they can.
Pilgrimage became a routine of Thai monks. After the end of
Buddhist Lent monks those who wish to practice Dhukhawat
take pilgrimage. Wishing to practice himself a monk goes alone
into the forest otherwise goes to the villages to educate
people
ในสมัยแห่งกาลรุ่งเรืองของพระพุทธศานา แห่งกรุงศรีอยุธยา กษัตริย์ศรี
ลังกามีความศรัทธาแรงกล้าที่จะฟื้นฟูพระพุทธศาสนาให้กลับคืนสู่ศรีลังกาอีกครั้ง
จึงส่งราชทูตมายังกรุงศรีอยุธยา ในปีพ.ศ.๒๒๙๔ พระเจ้าอยู่หัวบรม
โกศ กษัตริย์กรุงศรีอยุธยา โปรดให้คัดเลือกพระสงฆ์ที่แตกฉานในพระ
ไตรปิฎกและเคร่งครัดในพระธรรมวินัย ประกอบด้วย พระสงฆ์ ๑๘ รูป นำ
โดยพระอุบาลีมหาเถระและพระอริยมุนีมหาเถระ พร้อมทั้งสามเณรอีก ๗ รูป
ออกเดินทางด้วยเรือกำปั่นหลวงเพื่อให้เป็นพาหนะส่งคณะสงฆ์ไทยไปลังกาเพื่อสืบต่อพระพุทธศานาให้ชาวพุทธศรีลังกากลับมารุ่งเรืองอีกครั้ง
จากเหตุการณ์ประวัติศาสตร์ครั้งนั้น ทำให้คณะพระธรรมจาริกของไทย
มีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อจะเผยแผ่พระศาสนาในดินแดนของศรีลังกาอีกครั้ง ซึ่งการจาริกในครั้งนี้ คณะพระสงค์ไทยริเริ่มโครงการ ธรรมยาตรา
เชื่อมสัมพันธ์ ไทย ศรีลังกา ขึ้นมา
คณะพระธุดงค์ของไทยได้ฝึกข้อวัตรปฏิบัติ ตามแนวทางธุดงค์วัตร ขององค์
สมเด็จพระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้าที่ทรงบัญญัติไว้ ซึ่งการได้ฝึกฝนตามข้อวัตร
ปฏิบัติ ออกเดินจาริก จากพระนครศรีอยุธยา สู่ จังหวัดน่าน เป็นระยะ
ทาง ๗๖๑ กิโลเมตร เพื่อให้พระภิกษุได้ฝึกข้อวัตรปฏิบัติในการธุดงค์ได้
อย่างชำนาญนั้นเอง
การออกจาริกของคณะพระสงฆ์ไทยในครั้งนี้เพื่อ เดินตามรอยขององค์
สมเด็จพระสัมมาสัมพุทธะ เมื่อครั้งพระพุทธองค์และหมู่แห่งภิกษุทั้งหลายนับพันตามเสด็จ เพื่อทรงจาริกโปรดเวไนย์สัตว์ตามเมืองต่างๆ
จึงกลายเป็นข้อวัตรปฏิบัติกันเรื่อยมาของพระภิกษุสงฆ์ที่ถือเอาการจาริก
หลังออกพรรษาไปแล้ว เพื่อฝึกตัวฝึกตนในข้อวัตรปฏิบัติของธุดงค์
วัตร หากมุ่งประโยชน์พระสงฆ์เองแล้วไซร้ ย่อมเดินตามป่าเขาลำเนาไพร แต่หากมุ่งประโยชน์เพื่อหยั่งความศรัทธาให้เกิดขึ้นกับมวลมนุษย์แล้วนั้น ย่อมเดินจาริกสู่เมือง เพื่อฉลองศรัทธาแก่ญาติโยม และกราบไหว้สักการะศาสนสถานสำคัญต่างๆ ของเมืองนั้นๆ เฉกเช่นเดียวกับการจาริกครั้ง

Why should this narrator lie, about Sri Lankan Custom of offering meals. Do understand, there is no other country that enjoys offering food to anybody - particularly those who visit the country. This tradition was never "lost" but gained more and more and uptodate Alms giving, treatments meted out to the strangers without prejudice. It is a pitiy that the narrator failed to pronounce a single Name properly or at least nearest to those great names of Buddhist Shrines.
