    My father was a Russian language during the Cold War. I remember him telling me when he was stationed in Juneau Alaska that the Russians but flyover and laugh and say “Stupid Americans clothesthen my father left and pies and said “I hear you “then they would laugh. My father spoke fluent Russian that off until he died at the age of 71. He loves being a Russian language. You love this so much that he gave me a Russian name Tatiana. Thanks for the wonderful video.

    Hey Chase! Looking forward to a vid about why you left the army! I think it would be really cool if you talked about your hip injury/surgery and how you were able to bounce back from it/if it still impacts you now? I just had reconstructive surgery on my foot and, let's be honest, it freakin sucks (as does any type of surgery that impacts your ability to move, train, and simply do things on your own). It's really easy to get negative and down on yourself. Quite possibly just as much of a mental challenge as it is physical. Maybe you've already talked about this in a previous vid, but I'm new to the channel :) I admire your positivity, very inspiring to see where you're at now!

    Hey Chase, I'm about to enlist, just got done at MEPS and will be doing my job interview soon (Have to wait longer for a waiver for being slightly allergic to pineapple), and I was thinking MI 35M. Did you get opportunities to go so airborne ans rangee? Cause that is what I want to do very very badly. And do you know if their mission would change? Would they be able to kick ass with the infantry grunts too?

    • @ChaseChewning
      @ChaseChewning  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can opt-in for any school you want, just a matter of getting cleared by your command. And in the MI world their are two realms; strategic and tactical. If you want the "kick ass" one then you should look for a tactical MI assignment, though not always a given. Based off of the needs of the Army and your MOS, rank, etc. Stay safe!

  • @pep590
    @pep590 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Army is the largest and generally always has the most opportunities than the other services. You may find them in the others, but not as likely to. This was what happened to me as well.

  • @tatertot3819

    I know this is about a year late, so I hope you see it.
    First off, I found your video incredibly interesting and informative.
    Second, I have been looking into the military; what branch, what job, ect, ect. In particular, I am looking at joining the Air Force or the Army. You mentioned you considered all the branches, I was wondering if you have any insight towards how either of them (Air Force or Army) select your MOS? The army recruiter was very informative and pleasant to talk to, but there is the whole "recruiters lie" idea stuck in my head at the moment and I have gotten 3 different answers regarding how the Air Force selects your MOS (from the AF advisers and from an AF recruiter).
    Thank you very much for your time and I hope all is well with your TH-cam channel and retirement.

    I qualified for Intel with my ASVAB and DLAB scores but the Marine Corps doesn't have a slot open right now. Do you think that being a linguist in Intelligence is something that I should look elsewhere for (Army, Navy, etc.) or could I use my scores on another MOS that will create just as good of opportunities for me? Thanks

    • @ProYagu
      @ProYagu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Depends on what you really want, but I've heard from the Navy guys that their linguists get a lot more time doing their actual MOS than other branches. But then you'd be in the Navy and I'd have to make fun of you. For the Army, your mileage may vary. Like he pointed out, it really depends on what kind of units you are put into.

I can recognize the language by the mixture of sounds and the writing but I will not understand it. However, I think I would be good at learning a language. I wanted to be a 35P, but I missed the minimum DLAB score of 107 by 3 points. Now, I'm looking towards 35M as an alternative since the Army is returning to having the requirement of learning a language for that MOS (according to my recruiter). Would you say your DLAB score ultimately determines your language assigned at DLI? I've read around forums online that even if someone scored lower than the Cat. IV minimum, they were still assigned something like Mandarin

      amber Layman I’m in school at DLI currently, and from what I understand you can’t bypass it... but you can go and learn a different language and then you’ll know that language on top of Hebrew and you could get even more job opportunities. I’ve heard a few things about native speakers taking their own language but never anything about them totally bypassing

      @@joeprentice5019 hmm... that's a real bummer. Is that at all branch related? because my air force recruiter suggested that as a way for me to get into the linguist program. I scored a 60 general on the asvab, 13 points too low to go the traditional route. That's why we figured if I'm not "smart" enough to go to DLI then maybe I can forgo it since I proved fluency through the DLPT.

I wouldn't recommend to retake the DLAB, as if you have to retake it, DLI would be too hard for you to do (I got a 121, and Russian is not easy for me). The hardest part for you would be the security clearance, so I would recommend to pick a different MOS, as you'd wait forever for a clearance and it wouldn't even be guaranteed.

      Don’t trust the recruiter, go for any of the armys 35 series (military intelligence). When you get questioned by security clearance investigator be honest about that experience with the dismissed felony. The clearance investigators are meant to understand your situation. I’ve met people who’ve joined the military as a punishment instead of going to jail and went into the intel field getting their clearance.

      Along with this, your recruiter is probably just trying to fill in spots for infantry jobs. Your needs over the army’s. Look into cool intel jobs like 35F, 35L, 35M or 35P. I’m currently a 35F and enjoy the experience. Might reenlist as a 35L in the next 2 years though to try the agent side.

The living conditions of Marines are also shit compared to the army. The Army let me pick my MOS and guaranteed it at MEPS I got to pick my duty station (option 19, talk to your recruiter with available duty stations) and I got a 7k bonus (i'm sure you can probably get more than I did) all under contract at MEPs which they made me look over like 10 times to see if everything i signed was correct.
