In this episode of Garner It!, we explore the rise of Democracy in Ancient Greece. Many city states in Greece tried out many systems of government, starting with a monarchy or rule by a king. Monarchies gave way to oligarchies as Kings lost power to their aristocracies and small groups of men took over power. Next came the tyrants who took poor by force.. In the end, the people of Athens decided they wanted to rule themselves and set up a democracy. As the people of Greece learned, Direct Democracies are tough to make work, but they laid the foundation for future governments.
