Alyssa Homan this is so crazy to me! There have been days where I was running late, so I called my supervisors to let them know I was running late and would be there as soon as possible. I stopped at Starbucks with a clear conscience LOL, and my supervisors were never on site, so my call was more of a formality. I would never dream of asking to be given priority because I was running late! Guess what? All of America is running late lmaooooo. Wait your turn, Debra.
Honestly? this is what gets a honorable mention? so many people don't know anything about coffee (like me). i just take my coffee black without anything added. so why is it so weird and mind blowing to ask for a normal coffee at any coffee place?
Asthralas because it could be any kind of coffee you’re asking for. Where I work, a lot of people say, “Can I have a cold brew?” but there are 5 different cold brews that we offer so it’s confusing.
@@Asthralas because what's normal????? it could be the most basic coffee (espresso/black filter) or the most ordered coffee (widely depending on the store) or the reagional favorite (even more diverse)... even black coffee could be an espresso, a black filter coffee (filter, aero, syphon, V60,...) or a black cold brew. Too many options for "normal" 🤷🏽♂️

i watched this before working there and now after 4/4.5 months there...i can concur these are allll facts and I'm conviced many people are idiots and the size or 'whats in it' thing is sooo tru. One lady asked for suggestions at drivethru then got mad at what we agreed on and insisted on another 🙄
Another thing to add to the list: When I call out a customers name and drink and someone else who got a completely different drink goes, “Is this mine?” FOR EXAMPLE! Me: “Steve, your large extra hot latte is ready.” Incoming Bob who ordered a small iced caramel macchiato... Bob: “Is this mine?” Does it look even remotely close to what you ordered? Did you change your name to Steve within the last 2 minutes? Did you listen to any of the words that I just announced clearly, so that STEVE could get his LARGE EXTRA HOT LATTE? No? Fuck off, Bob. Wait your turn. And you know what your drink looks like, don’t play these games with me.
I’m dead! I watch that happen literally every single time I go to Starbucks. Sometimes I do that cause I forget what I ordered. Especially cause I don’t have a “usual” and usually it’s nothing fancy with soy, no whip, non GMO, sugar free, vegan H2O...
Or when they take someone else drink and come back 5 mins later and complain its not what they ordered. Yes,well obviously its not the medium cappuccino you ordered since you took someone elses large caramel latte....
Sienna Rose I deal with this everyday but I’ve gotten in to the habit of either making eye contact with the customer. I either smile and say “hello” or I ask them if their need any help. 😭 most of the time customers will look away but then there’s always the customers that will be like “oh no just waiting for my drink 👀”
i stare because 50% of the time they use milk when i asked for heavy cream or they use classic syrup when i told them no classic syrup and no sugar and they put it in anyway. this is why i always stare because where i am from, these "Baristas" aren't really baristas. they make sugar milk drinks and i want a freaking cappucino with no sugar made with heavy cream. its not hard to steam & foam the heavy cream instead of milk. but they always look at me like im stupid and get mad when i make them dump out the drink they made with sugar/sugar syrup even though i told them no sugar.
i work in a starbucks in the UK so by default all our drinks are hot not iced. and sooo many times people order a caramel macchiato and then when they get it they're like 'ohh isnt it suppose to be iced?[ like nooo it's not, if you want it iced ask for an ICED caramel macchiato
That's because latte means MILK. Caffe means coffee. Chai latte with a shot is a dirty chai. 2 shots is a double dirty. Chai latte made with soy, add a shot is a dirty hipster. One of my favs.
One of my biggest pet-peeves: the customer who stands in line chatting with the others they came with, then gets to my register & stands there for 10 minutes looking at the menu going, “🤔Oh, mannnn, what do I wannnnnnt??🤔” YOU HAD ONE JOB while you waited for your turn to order!! And you FAILED. 🤦🏼♀️
I have a similar problem. people will stand in line then it gets to the end of the line somebody they know comes in then starts talking to them mid order

That would catch people out in the UK. Americans are made by their employers to ask questions , when they've got no interest in hearing the answers and people lie anyway. For example Barista - " Hi, how are you today?" Me - " I'm feeling a little vulnerable today because I had a poor sexual experience last night". It doesn't work, does it. So, in the UK if a barista I didn't know asked me how I was I would be so surprised I'd probably just Americano please.
kieran hynes it just a standard greeting. No one really cares how they feel and the person being asked know they don’t care so usually it goes “Hi, how are you? What can I get you today” most normal people just say, hi, fine thanks, can I get __” .
the worst for me is that i work at a small coffee shop, not a starbucks so when people order a macchiato and i hand them the tiny cup theyre like "um excuse me this is not what i ordered" actually!!! in real life, a macchiato is a SHOT OF ESPRESSO with a DASH of foam cya

Omg yes! I had a customer yell at me and tell me I was incompetent because I couldn’t make a macchiato! My boss “excuse me miss. If you refer to this book all about coffee that we sell in the book shop (which btw the cafe is in a bookshop) you will see that she made you a macchiato. Yeah some people are not aware that there are types of macchiato which is espresso macchiato and latte macchiato. When they order macchiato I usually give them espresso macchiato and they expect latte macchiato so i have to make it again ;-;

I worked at Mcds. Got in huge trouble from a lady who wanted a cheeseburger no cheese and I charged her for a hamburger. She came in and yelllllled at me. And my boss. And we had to re ring her order and she paid 25 cents more. And she thought I was the idiot 😂😂

I honestly don't care when people watch us make the drinks. I used to do that as a customer all the time. It's when people watch us like a hawk and tell us over the glass what to do for their drink because they do not trust us to make it correctly that really annoys me.

In a lot of other coffee shops, unfortunately there IS something known as a mochiato, where it’s a chocolate macchiato. I only know since SO MANY people at my Starbucks order it all the damn time

starbuck does things different than small coffee shops. sometimes differently made drinks go by the same name. If you arnt familiar you can get surprised by what you get. and at that dollar amount it doesnt feel very good. unfortunately some ppl respond poorly to this situation. Misunderstandings on both sides over something that was likely a bit of a self-indulgent treat that they may already feel a little guilty about anyway.
Ive been a barista for 8 years at the same shop and have experienced all of these things and more. Love my job and my customers but some people make me rethink my life decisions.

It takes doing a customer service job to make you realise what a bad customer you are. That was me. I was always that customer who was The Comedian. "I'm so funny! Every stupid thing they say, over and over and over. It made me a better customer.

You are clearly a intelligent person. I use to work in retail many years ago and felt the same way. I am a bit older than you and have realized something about people that has significantly helped me in dealing with them... the average person is a IDIOT. Once you accept this, you just accept the fact that you will have to speak slowly, repeat stuff, and expect stupid responses. You are expecting people to be as intelligent as you, and that is not the case.
I think my least favorite thing is when people rattle off their entire order in one breath without stopping--like they do in movies--without any consideration for the fact that there's a minimal amount of reaction time needed to listen, comprehend, and respond. Like, now you have to repeat yourself so you really didn't save yourself any time, did you?

I work the night shift, so I don't get a lot of angry and super annoying right? But I work in LA so I get a lot of weird stuff that goes down... Like last night I had a guy come in, looking crazy and crap. He sees me, comes up to me and gets a tall coffee. Nothing unusual there right? He then proceeds to pull out his money and a set of business car and hands me one, normalish right? But after he hands me one, and I give him his cup of coffee .. he grabs three cards and drops them on the ground(on purpose). So I'm just like "wtf?" In my head . Then the customer behind him goes and tells him about the cards he dropped and he says "it's okay, boss over here will clean them up!" And then gives me the most evil smile Iv seen on a functioning crack heads face. Then he puts one ducking card on every table in the store , INSIDE AND OUT. HE THEN STARTED HIDING CARDS ALL OVER THE DAMN PLACE MAKING ME FIND AND CLEAN EVERY FUCKING ONE OF THEM ALL NIGHT... I was finding those damn things everywhere 😭 and when I finally gave up.. I read the business card.. and it was talking about trying to get him removed from society. I really hate people sometimes.
I worked the night shift in the only coffee shop open in the city, but also the only open bathroom without a door charge. Vomit, blood, toilet paper and diarrhoea an inch thick every hour, including the ceiling, that we had to clean up whilst keeping an eye on the counter because there was two of us and we also had other chores(remove and clean matts, remove food from cabinents and clean out, etc). This girls video of complaints is a bit too first world, white American problems for me to take seriously lol. "People talk on the phone and expect for me to wait, bla, bla," so she has a job in hospitality/retail that she gets paid for in other words. She has no stories of being forced to hug customers or getting paid minimum wage with a non-existent tip system, being last-minute rostered for 2.5 hour midday shifts, or how much she hates paying out the nose for uniforms, etc.
Selfish phone zombies get passed by the next customer in line. I'm not going to make them wait while you finish your phone conversation. Sorry, not sorry.

Horrifically true. I had a customer who wanted a mocha. In our company we did coffee first, then hot chocolate poured on top. So I made it and she said "that's not a mocha. I'm not drinking that." I explained that it is a mocha, it is coffee and hot chocolate. She then proceeded to shout at me that NO! A mocha is hot chocolate and coffee! This went on for a little while before I gave up and let her believe whatever she believed.
I hate when people come up and say I will have a coffee. Like WHICH ONE? We have at least 20 options! Plus what size. What milk? Then they will be like a tall hazelnut mocha on soy milk with whipped cream and 9 sugars. Like m8 I can't guess that.

Literally got asked once to make a weightless cappuccino! I’ve also been asked to make a no foam cappuccino, and once I was even taught how to make a Latte by a costumer, unbelievable but true, the costumer guided me through the whole preparation of the drink, all I wanted to do was yelled at her, I KNOW!!! When you work at a café that's not Starbucks and they say "can I get a grande caramel macchiato" and you're like??😶 I've even had them argue with me that a grande is a large, not a meduim??
My shop uses small, medium or large. Some customers get upset that I clarify their drinks, but a good amount of people mean large when they say "tall" so I have to check

I'm going to open coffee shop one day called "The Angry Barista" and i will staff it with struggling comedians and sarcastic assholes who will berate the the customers for being idiots, make fun of them for ordering gay ass drinks, and send them to the back of the line if they can't figure out what the fuck they want.
I work at a papa Murphy's and this is very applicable to my job as well. For anyone who doesn't know what that is: take ' n bake, basically a Subway for pizza, customers can watch you make pizza through glass. We CAN NOT BAKE YOUR PIZZA FOR YOU, it's take 'n bake for a reason
As a fellow barista, I also hated when people take their order at drive thru and then when they get to the window in the middle of a rush, and they go “can I add something else to the order?” or “can I change one of the drinks?”
Also have to love that jumbled up order... “can I get uhhh a quarter strength, skim, no chocolate powder, with 2 sugars cappuccino... also can I get that large”
You may want to make allowance for people like me, I have a Lisp I talk fast because it is slightly embarrassing to have customers and occasionally baristas stare at me like I'm a freak (Lucky for me Tall hot cappuccino with teo sugers is a relativly easy drink) .

I know this is almost 2 years old but I laughed all the way through this video. Your points and your delivery were spot on. I have never worked at Starbucks but I work in a downtown urban center and I really look forward to leaving my office and heading to my regular Starbucks for my morning coffee. The staff are cool, smart and I know a bit about many of them from chatting with them each morning. One thing I hate is when people order their coffee and they can clearly see that there are other people who already ordered their coffees earlier than them and are waiting for their drinks and they push their way to the front of the coffee bar and stand IN THE WAY, blocking everyone else who will obviously be getting their drinks made AHEAD of them. Seriously, stand aside, leave room and wait your turn. I will admit that I have found myself staring but I'm standing far back so you can't see me and I only do it because it's early morning and watching a Barista make 3-4 drinks at once is like watching a well a choreographed ballet, it sort of puts me into a relaxing trance. Anyway, great video, you definitely belong in front of the camera!
Great video... I agree on everything apart from the hot drink... There is a certain temperature that a served hot drink should never exceed. Customers are not able to assess the temperature of their drink before drinking and sometimes they burn their tongue by just sipping it.
several stories to add (i've been a barista for too long!) once a woman ordered a latte, somehow (dont ask how, i honestly cant remember) i figured out this wasn't what she actually wanted, she actually wanted a filter (black) coffee. i asked her 'would you like milk in that?' and she screamed in my face 'I'VE NEVER DRANK MILK IN MY COFFEE IN MY LIFE, WHY WOULD I START NOW?!' and i was like 'ok, dont worry, i've not put any in...' a couple used to come in and order 2 iced white mochas. we'd hand them out and they would say 'erm, this isn't what we wanted, we ordered white mocha frappuccinos'. after this happened a few times, we realised what they were up to. they didn't want to pay the price for the frapps, so acted like it was our fault and made up remake their drinks. when we worked it out, i said 'are you should it's an iced white mocha and not a white mocha frapp, because you've ordered the same thing several times and always say something different at the end' they admitted it was the frapps they wanted, paid for them...and we never saw them again... we always have issues with people ordering frapps, because they often dont specify if it's coffee or creme based, but we always ask. when we did the triple caramel frapp one summer, this girl ordered one at the till, the girl i was on with asked her 3 TIMES if it was DEFINITELY the one with coffee in it that she wanted. she said yes 3 times. i handed it out at the end of the bar, 'that's not what i asked for, i wanted the one without coffee.' i could have screamed, but instead, i turned around to start making it again, her friend asked 'what was wrong?' 'oh the girl just made a mistake' i nearly threw it in her face. but i didn't. guy orders a small drink at the till, gets his name on the cup. at the end of the bar, he takes two totally different drinks for someone named Laura. even though he asked if it was his, and we said 'no'. after the whole sugar scandal of a few years ago, we were asked this: 'is it true you put 12 spoons of sugar in every coffee you make?!' 'yeah, we have a big vat of sugar down here, and just before we hand out each drink, we pile a ton of sugar into it.' 'omg, really?!' 'NO!'
And when someone tries something for the first time and you tell them "try it and make sure you like it, if not I can make you something else" and they just WALK AWAY WITHOUT TALKING A SINGLE SIP. Like...OK, you paid $4+ for a drink and might end up hating it. Also (this happened to me yesterday, so I'll give the exact example) this elderly lady didn't know what to get but wanted to try Pumpkin Spice but didn't want coffee, we gave her the options of a steamer or Pumpkin Chai; she couldn't decide, so we made a sample of both. Her phone rang and SHE ANSWERED and stood there on the phone for at least five minutes (peek the line forming behind her as she stood there talking instead of ordering or stepping to the side to let the next person order). When she FINALLY got off the phone she tried each sample, tried both again, then again, then AGAIN. She said they were both pretty good, tried them AGAIN (the samples were 4oz) and still couldn't decide. She said she'd walk around and get her groceries (we're inside a Kroger) and come back with a decision later, so we gave her lids for her samples. By this time my coworker and I were late getting out (it was shift change) and we ended up giving free drinks to the first couple of people behind her that had been waiting so long. I doubt she ever came back with her decision.

One time I ordered a black tea iced and i just said add a splash of soy milk. And the barista kept complaining saying my order was weird. And I'm a nice person so I laughed it off. You know what he did..he literally put a tea bag in soy milk. Aye boy my order was soooo simple and he didn't get it. He made me seem like I was dumb. And I just kept quiet and sipped it. And I do none of the above, maybe a just stare a little towards the end just to make sure they add soy milk because I paid for it.
being a barista myself I'm very aware of how I order at other coffee shops. But sometimes they don't have a running system in their drik names (compared to Starbucks) First time ordering my chai explaining it well and when she repeated it back to me she phrased it slightly different. I remebered that for the next time, but this time someone else took my order and corrected me again 😂
I watch my barista mainly because there is nothing to do at the counter...except be on my phone...but I don't like that either. So trust me we both feel awkward.
There's definitely a difference between watching out of interest in how the drink is made and staring at the barista making it. It really depends on the person doing it as well.
Or.. (Mobile order customer).. customer: “umm I’ve been waiting for a hour now for my mobile order. Where is it” Me: “oh I’m sorry mam what’s the name for that order” Customer: (eye roll and large sigh) it’s right here see (shoved phone in baristas face). Now where is it? Me: “umm mam I’m sorry looks like you forgot to finish sending the order. I can go ahead and make it for you right now, if you want to go ahead and send it through. Customer: THIS IS RIDICULOUS.. I’m late now because of you, I want my money back. Me: 🤦🏻♀️
I've been a barista for around 10 years and I understand EVERY SINGLE THING YOU DESCRIBED!!! Although not a S*******s barista, every single thing has happened and I feel you. Love this! Sadly, this kind of made my day. A story: I'm at the machine pulling a shot while my bar back is at the register taking orders. I'm backed up and a line starts to form. A lady who is about eighth in line yells, "Hey, boy! You boy! You're not doing anything! Take my order!!! *snaps fingers at me*" I'm watching the espresso pull and timing it and watching for the correct extraction that I had painstakingly dialed in... I'm not here on vacation. I'm working, lady. Me: "Uhh, definitely no. You did not just do that. So especially no. You wait." Barista life.
I understand the asking if it is decafe or has soy milk. Some people with allergies need to make sure that there wasn't a miscommunication or someone deciding not to do it. I've heard stories of people asking for no milk because they can get really sick, getting milk and having to go to the hospital.

I either smile and say “hello” or I ask them if their need any help. 😭 most of the time customers will look away but then there’s always the customers that will be like “oh no just waiting for my drink 👀”
i stare because 50% of the time they use milk when i asked for heavy cream or they use classic syrup when i told them no classic syrup and no sugar and they put it in anyway. this is why i always stare because where i am from, these "Baristas" aren't really baristas. they make sugar milk drinks and i want a freaking cappucino with no sugar made with heavy cream. its not hard to steam & foam the heavy cream instead of milk. but they always look at me like im stupid and get mad when i make them dump out the drink they made with sugar/sugar syrup even though i told them no sugar.
Any customer that annoys me from now on is gonna have to wait much longer than normal. And they’ll get decaf.

If you arnt familiar you can get surprised by what you get. and at that dollar amount it doesnt feel very good. unfortunately some ppl respond poorly to this situation. Misunderstandings on both sides over something that was likely a bit of a self-indulgent treat that they may already feel a little guilty about anyway.

I work the night shift, so I don't get a lot of angry and super annoying right? But I work in LA so I get a lot of weird stuff that goes down... Like last night I had a guy come in, looking crazy and crap. He sees me, comes up to me and gets a tall coffee. Nothing unusual there right? He then proceeds to pull out his money and a set of business car and hands me one, normalish right? But after he hands me one, and I give him his cup of coffee .. he grabs three cards and drops them on the ground(on purpose). So I'm just like "wtf?" In my head . Then the customer behind him goes and tells him about the cards he dropped and he says "it's okay, boss over here will clean them up!" And then gives me the most evil smile Iv seen on a functioning crack heads face. Then he puts one ducking card on every table in the store , INSIDE AND OUT. HE THEN STARTED HIDING CARDS ALL OVER THE DAMN PLACE MAKING ME FIND AND CLEAN EVERY FUCKING ONE OF THEM ALL NIGHT... I was finding those damn things everywhere 😭 and when I finally gave up.. I read the business card.. and it was talking about trying to get him removed from society. I really hate people sometimes.

Vomit, blood, toilet paper and diarrhoea an inch thick every hour, including the ceiling, that we had to clean up whilst keeping an eye on the counter because there was two of us and we also had other chores(remove and clean matts, remove food from cabinents and clean out, etc). This girls video of complaints is a bit too first world, white American problems for me to take seriously lol. "People talk on the phone and expect for me to wait, bla, bla," so she has a job in hospitality/retail that she gets paid for in other words. She has no stories of being forced to hug customers or getting paid minimum wage with a non-existent tip system, being last-minute rostered for 2.5 hour midday shifts, or how much she hates paying out the nose for uniforms, etc.
The appropriate response to "~Holds up index finger~ Excuse me, I'm on the phone," is "~Holds up middle finger~ Excuse me, you're in my line."

Horrifically true. I had a customer who wanted a mocha. In our company we did coffee first, then hot chocolate poured on top. So I made it and she said "that's not a mocha. I'm not drinking that." I explained that it is a mocha, it is coffee and hot chocolate. She then proceeded to shout at me that NO! A mocha is hot chocolate and coffee! This went on for a little while before I gave up and let her believe whatever she believed.

I’ve also been asked to make a no foam cappuccino, and once I was even taught how to make a Latte by a costumer, unbelievable but true, the costumer guided me through the whole preparation of the drink, all I wanted to do was yelled at her, I KNOW!!! I work at a papa Murphy's and this is very applicable to my job as well. For anyone who doesn't know what that is: take ' n bake, basically a Subway for pizza, customers can watch you make pizza through glass. We CAN NOT BAKE YOUR PIZZA FOR YOU, it's take 'n bake for a reason

As a fellow barista, I also hated when people take their order at drive thru and then when they get to the window in the middle of a rush, and they go “can I add something else to the order?” or “can I change one of the drinks?”
Also have to love that jumbled up order... “can I get uhhh a quarter strength, skim, no chocolate powder, with 2 sugars cappuccino... also can I get that large”
You may want to make allowance for people like me, I have a Lisp I talk fast because it is slightly embarrassing to have customers and occasionally baristas stare at me like I'm a freak (Lucky for me Tall hot cappuccino with teo sugers is a relativly easy drink) .

I know this is almost 2 years old but I laughed all the way through this video. Your points and your delivery were spot on. I have never worked at Starbucks but I work in a downtown urban center and I really look forward to leaving my office and heading to my regular Starbucks for my morning coffee. The staff are cool, smart and I know a bit about many of them from chatting with them each morning. One thing I hate is when people order their coffee and they can clearly see that there are other people who already ordered their coffees earlier than them and are waiting for their drinks and they push their way to the front of the coffee bar and stand IN THE WAY, blocking everyone else who will obviously be getting their drinks made AHEAD of them. Seriously, stand aside, leave room and wait your turn.
I will admit that I have found myself staring but I'm standing far back so you can't see me and I only do it because it's early morning and watching a Barista make 3-4 drinks at once is like watching a well a choreographed ballet, it sort of puts me into a relaxing trance.

Great video... I agree on everything apart from the hot drink... There is a certain temperature that a served hot drink should never exceed. Customers are not able to assess the temperature of their drink before drinking and sometimes they burn their tongue by just sipping it.
several stories to add (i've been a barista for too long!)
once a woman ordered a latte, somehow (dont ask how, i honestly cant remember) i figured out this wasn't what she actually wanted, she actually wanted a filter (black) coffee. i asked her 'would you like milk in that?' and she screamed in my face 'I'VE NEVER DRANK MILK IN MY COFFEE IN MY LIFE, WHY WOULD I START NOW?!' and i was like 'ok, dont worry, i've not put any in...'
a couple used to come in and order 2 iced white mochas. we'd hand them out and they would say 'erm, this isn't what we wanted, we ordered white mocha frappuccinos'. after this happened a few times, we realised what they were up to. they didn't want to pay the price for the frapps, so acted like it was our fault and made up remake their drinks. when we worked it out, i said 'are you should it's an iced white mocha and not a white mocha frapp, because you've ordered the same thing several times and always say something different at the end' they admitted it was the frapps they wanted, paid for them...and we never saw them again...
we always have issues with people ordering frapps, because they often dont specify if it's coffee or creme based, but we always ask. when we did the triple caramel frapp one summer, this girl ordered one at the till, the girl i was on with asked her 3 TIMES if it was DEFINITELY the one with coffee in it that she wanted. she said yes 3 times. i handed it out at the end of the bar, 'that's not what i asked for, i wanted the one without coffee.' i could have screamed, but instead, i turned around to start making it again, her friend asked 'what was wrong?' 'oh the girl just made a mistake' i nearly threw it in her face. but i didn't.
guy orders a small drink at the till, gets his name on the cup. at the end of the bar, he takes two totally different drinks for someone named Laura. even though he asked if it was his, and we said 'no'.
after the whole sugar scandal of a few years ago, we were asked this:
'is it true you put 12 spoons of sugar in every coffee you make?!'
'yeah, we have a big vat of sugar down here, and just before we hand out each drink, we pile a ton of sugar into it.'
'omg, really?!'
'NO!'
YESSSSSS I am a barista and thats literally everything. I hate when you call the drink out with their NAME on it and they ask uh is this my drink??
And when someone tries something for the first time and you tell them "try it and make sure you like it, if not I can make you something else" and they just WALK AWAY WITHOUT TALKING A SINGLE SIP. Like...OK, you paid $4+ for a drink and might end up hating it.
Also (this happened to me yesterday, so I'll give the exact example) this elderly lady didn't know what to get but wanted to try Pumpkin Spice but didn't want coffee, we gave her the options of a steamer or Pumpkin Chai; she couldn't decide, so we made a sample of both. Her phone rang and SHE ANSWERED and stood there on the phone for at least five minutes (peek the line forming behind her as she stood there talking instead of ordering or stepping to the side to let the next person order). When she FINALLY got off the phone she tried each sample, tried both again, then again, then AGAIN. She said they were both pretty good, tried them AGAIN (the samples were 4oz) and still couldn't decide. She said she'd walk around and get her groceries (we're inside a Kroger) and come back with a decision later, so we gave her lids for her samples. By this time my coworker and I were late getting out (it was shift change) and we ended up giving free drinks to the first couple of people behind her that had been waiting so long. I doubt she ever came back with her decision.

One time I ordered a black tea iced and i just said add a splash of soy milk. And the barista kept complaining saying my order was weird. And I'm a nice person so I laughed it off. You know what he did..he literally put a tea bag in soy milk. Aye boy my order was soooo simple and he didn't get it. He made me seem like I was dumb. And I just kept quiet and sipped it. And I do none of the above, maybe a just stare a little towards the end just to make sure they add soy milk because I paid for it.

being a barista myself I'm very aware of how I order at other coffee shops. But sometimes they don't have a running system in their drik names (compared to Starbucks) First time ordering my chai explaining it well and when she repeated it back to me she phrased it slightly different. I remebered that for the next time, but this time someone else took my order and corrected me again 😂

A story:
I'm at the machine pulling a shot while my bar back is at the register taking orders. I'm backed up and a line starts to form. A lady who is about eighth in line yells, "Hey, boy! You boy! You're not doing anything! Take my order!!! *snaps fingers at me*" I'm watching the espresso pull and timing it and watching for the correct extraction that I had painstakingly dialed in... I'm not here on vacation. I'm working, lady.
Me: "Uhh, definitely no. You did not just do that. So especially no. You wait."

I understand the asking if it is decafe or has soy milk. Some people with allergies need to make sure that there wasn't a miscommunication or someone deciding not to do it. I've heard stories of people asking for no milk because they can get really sick, getting milk and having to go to the hospital.
