    Not trying to imitate Layne, but to sing it his own way, is the ultimate show of respect to Layne.

      Thats not a show of respect,thats individuallity.. (not sayin hes not respectfull, but come on, hes a developed singer of his own (league even, just like Layne is)

      He actually did use some techniques Layne was synonymous with, like the emphasized vibrato, but not all of them.

    Chris actually did justice to the original. Talk about a supergroup. You got Duff from Guns and Roses, the drummer from Screaming Trees, Guitarist from Pearl Jam and the singer from Soundgarden singing a vocal done by the singer from Alice in Chains. Wow. So much talent on that stage it's hard to believe.

    The thing about the Grunge bands of the 90s is they loved and respected each other. A brotherhood. So blessed that my teen years were during the height of this era.

      Amen to that. These bands help shape me as a person and for taste in music. I'm glad I grew up when I did.

    • @susien7323
      @susien7323 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      They could and did step in for each other when necessary. Layne stepped in for Mark Lanigan (Trees) when he was hospitalized. That’s one of the best things about all these musicians being such great supporters of each other in good times and bad. A real band of brothers

    • @tommyfuller103z
      @tommyfuller103z 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes you are spot on. The respect was there in the collaborations of different band members playing and singing with the other bands. There was no Competition or animosity towards each other. I can remember Layne talking with Kurt while they in a car and how Kurt was excited about his new Baby and then a short time later we know the tragedy that hit Kurt's fans and the Rock and Roll world.

      You hit the “deceit” part. People who are found dead with nine broken ribs and a head wound with no lethal drugs whatsoever in their system, with a exercise band next to their beat up body are not People who have “committed suicide.” Chris was murdered. The crime is that in a corrupt city like Detroit, things can get shoved under a rug for enough money... and they were. We need a new investigation into the death of Chris, whose body was cremated before it even left Detroit. River of Deceit indeed! Greedy black widow... scratch the surface and you will find that Icky never shed a tear for her dead husband. She is truly a disgusting, greedy liar 🤥. Don’t believe that he “killed himself.” Nope, don’t make any sense when you consider the facts. I hope that one day they open a HOMICIDE investigation into his murder...

      @Millennial Smark Kurt sang with Lanegan (Screaming Trees) in his first solo album, Leadbelly’s Where did you sleep last night (afterwards it became famous because of the version in Nirvana’s MTVs Unplugged). The song Long gone day, singed by Lanegan and Staley in Mad Season’s album, when played alive, the saxo line sounded like Come As You Are. It’s clear the brotherhood between these bands, including Nirvana

    Can you hear that? Yep, sadly that's our collective hearts...... breaking...
    The joyous, yet sinking, heavy feeling of remembrance.
    To a time when they were here.... To a time they sang to us and for us... and we sang along with them.. We felt it ... lived it... and received solace from it...
    A connectedness from writer and listener.
    No bullshit.... Just raw and real.
    Their souls will come around again.... to another time and another generation..... And who knows.... maybe we'll meet again...
    Your searchlight soul shines bright... throughout the ages... timeless...

    My God does Chris Cornell do this song justice! I miss him and Layne. In my opinion the 2 best vocalists in the grunge era of rock and roll. I was age 32 When I was working in Seattle moving from Boston in February of 1992 when the shit hit the Fan as the world focused on Seattle, and it's the music scene. What a great time to have been there.

    When Layne passed in 2002, I was 24. I had been listening to AIC and Mad Season for nearly half my life. I had just seen Jerry Cantrell live where he preformed some AIC songs the year before Layne passed. Layne’s death, although we hadn’t heard that beautiful voice in years, tore my soul. His music was all I consumed for the two years following his death. My dad was an addict, and I understood those lyrics his all too well. They helped me heal from not having my father around.
    Fast forward to 2017. Musically, that was a shit filled year! Chris dying fucked me up in ways I had no idea a death of a musician could fuck me up. Not only had I been listening to him for nearly 3/4 of my life, I had introduced his music to my children. While I wasn’t much of a Lincoln Park fan, I couldn’t help but feel that same sinking & sick feeling when Chester passed. I remember telling my husband, and I quote, “i had no idea a musician’s death would hit me this hard. God forbid something happens to Eddie Vedder or Tom Petty.”
    ..And four months later, goddamn-it, Tom Petty fucking dies. It sucked about as hard as I thought it would suck and that’s one I still can’t shake. He was my dad’s age. Resembled my father, was an artist like my father, and suffered from addiction like my father. Tom was the one I counted on most because it was a sure thing he was going to provide an album with integrity every couple years. He never disappointed.
    These are the true people that raised me, and it fucking hurts that they’re all dead. I also see the tragedy of how these four died, and it’s not lost on me at all. Two took their own lives, and two died of accidental overdoses. They made that music to escape.
    Please start mental health care for your children, if you have access. Even if you believe they have no worries, no trauma, no reason to see a mental health provider, prepare them with the tools. Because it’s not if, it’s when they face a hard times.

      Very ironic and I guess when you have lived most of your adult life in depression and know darkness you can see it through another. The first thing I thought about beside just total heart break and sadness was when I watched this video when I heard he passed because I knew for him to not only nail it so close brilliantly with his unique vocals it was definitely the way he brought the presence of Layne's darkness through in the song's (not quite so dark but almost there, yet still it was dark!) I wandered if Chris was not going through some sort of depression or had just been through it in the past and tapped in to some past memories to pull the performance off to give that touch that Layne had...I still am glad he was chosen to do it and we have this as a memory to watch and will always miss Chris very much and am very very saddened by his loss, not a loss has hit me this way since Layne's....
