    Sadly, no. I'm never going to get to that level. Great to watch people who do though! Thanks Mato.

    I love these games where a super grandmaster like Paul Murphy plays white against an amateur, they don't stand a chance and it's always a slaughter

    Fascinating! (I realized he was going to RESIGN in two moves) I am thankful to the publicly friendly approach of how to display chess. (There are some pretty weird chesschanels out there) Thx Mato!

    4:31 Pawn takes pawn, even if black responds with Qe6 instead, black is lost in all variations isn't it.

    I've had some of these games at my level. Mainly below elo 1200. To just "sit and develop" while the pawns are eating away on the knight especially is stomach-turning. What helps is to focus on the other guys pieces remain on the back rank. But most good players don't fall for the trap.

    I love this guy, not only does he know chess but he makes me laugh my ass off. Reminds me of my uncle Bruno IM in Mendoza Argentina and best friend to Miguel Najdorf. Too sad my uncle passed away in Houston Texas in 2015 November, so many memorable chess games we played and Mato you remind me of him! What I would give to play like that again...... Also Miguel Quinteros is another friend of these guys, very aggressive chess player. Mato, any games from him?....

    I saw the bishops role on e5 but didnt capture the right order to remove the threat :D thought Be5 was enough from start but the black bishop exchange is important first to do! nice game I specially liked the knight sacrifice at the beginning in exchange for development and tempo that was impressive

    At 4:40 why can't black king castle?

    • @Doc92IDH
      @Doc92IDH 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tony JK They can; but then they'll lose their queen anyway. Plus, it doesn't really solve anything, the king would be in a vulnerable spot there as well, since there aren't any pawns to help defend on that side.

    • @tonyjk
      @tonyjk 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +leerobbo92 Yeah I figured that too... But I was wondering why MatoJelic didn't mention it... Thanks for commenting tho! :)

    • @Doc92IDH
      @Doc92IDH 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tony JK No problem! Just in case you weren't sure, the only time you can't castle is if the king is in check, or if one of the squares between the king and rook are covered by another piece (for example, if the queen was on g5 at 4:40, then black couldn't castle, because the queen would be pointing at g8). In all other cases, even if the rook is being attacked, you're allowed to castle. Hope that helps!

    After 9.Bxf4, the position seems hilariously bad for Black: White has a strong center with 3 developed pieces and K safety, while Black is totally backward. Except Black is up a piece. Engine says Black is better; can you believe it? Perhaps a stronger opponent could have shown Morphy's N sacrifice to be unsound? - By the way, Engine says that 13.Re1 (after which "Black couldn't find a good move") was actually a mistake, lowering White's advantage; Black's good move is Kf8 (more than Kd8) followed by some chances to exchange and/or develop pieces, although not easy.

    well, we're all guilty of playing devils advocate. so im guilty. man, i love to see paul morphy at his best in his time, play mikhail tal of his time and at his best. i quickly dismiss hearing paul morphy couldnt handle tals time or even modern times. another quickly from me is how fast i think paul morphy would adapt. but hey, some say muhammed ali at his best would have killed marciano and joe louis. but whats also said is modern man could not build the egyptian pyramids today. take your pick. chess too can span time.

    Morphy could not play this game in 1866 or 1886 because he retired from chess in 1860 and he has died in 1884.
