    Another fantastically helpful video!! Susan, do you have a video showing how you set up that macro for reducing gain by -12 db of a selected area with keyboard shortcut?

    Maybe an example where your RMS values didn't conveniently land in the right place might be more useful for people learning... what do you do when they don't just work out? I know how I do it, but I'd love to see how you do!

      At this point, I honestly wouldn't be able to tell you how to engineer. Once I set the levels, I'm good to go. Now, I'm at a point where I hire a sound engineer once a year to check my levels for me and set them for me. So I really don't have to worry about the engineering aspect.
      If my RMS was off 10 years ago, I would change the volume levels my mic, get closer or farther from the mic, maybe put foam or some kind sound absorbing material around my recording space, etc. It was all pretty jerry rigged! LOL! I was running off of Audacity and a Blue Nessie mic. Now, my set up is far more sophisticated.
      But for you, if you are just learning, the best way to get your levels right is to get hired to do some recording (or do recording for free). And then just execute the right levels out of urgency and necessity by however means you possibly can rather than waiting until everything is perfect to start getting hired. It's kind of like learning to ride a bike or roller skate or fish. Once you get it, it just becomes second nature. But learning is frustrating. And there's no college degree for this stuff. You just have to learn it by trail and error. It's all worth it though. This is a great job. I love it! Keep my posted about your journey.

    I'm looking for how to MARK the audition script for Pronunciation, Intonation, Peaks and Vallies, and any mistake areas. How is this done with a TABLET or LAPTOP? And what if I want to do it the old fashioned way with Paper?

    • @Voices4Learning

      Certain types of iPads let you mark up scripts!! I don't typically mark up my scripts other than highlighting quotation marks and main characters.

    Do you know of a way to measure RMS levels in studio one without izotope RX?

    • @Voices4Learning

      As far as I know, S1 doesn't have a way to measure rms levels.

    hi i have a question. how much time does it take for them to tell the results of the auditions

    • @Voices4Learning
      @Voices4Learning  ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the author/producer. Sometimes, they'll get back to right away. Sometimes it takes weeks.

    Hello, I've looked through your video titles and watched a few videos you have created. The last one I watched.. Win more auditions with a great message. It made me wonder, what do you say really if you have no vo experience to share in the professional message you encourage us to use? "Audiobook narrator of 100+ titles". What if this were to be my first audition/job..how do you make yourself appealing and stand out from the rest in messages? Thanks 😊

    • @Voices4Learning
      @Voices4Learning  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's a really great question!! If you have no audiobooks or actual paid work under your belt, it's ok! We all have to start somewhere. Just make sure that your ACX profile is filled out as best as you can. Put up your best profile picture, record as many different samples as possible and put them up too. Type up interesting synopsizes about each sample. And get yourself a website with samples and demos (if you haven't made a demo, that's ok). Even if it's a free wix site, that's ok!!! But fill up your ACX profile and your website with as much info about yourself as possible and as many samples as possible. In your samples, you can use samples of your auditions!!! And when you upload your audition to ACX, type up your contact info (including phone number) and just a little message saying that you enjoyed recording this audition and wish the author all the best. If you can't talk about yourself, talk about the author and tell them how much you appreciate them. Also, adding emojis seems kind of juvenile, but they are pretty eye catching. So, in your comment to the author, put an email emoji ✉ next to your email address, put a telephone emoji 📞 next to your phone number, etc. I've curated a ton of auditions on ACX, and I gotta say, I like the way professional and appropriately used emojis look. (I think you can still use emojis on ACX--come to think of it, I haven't seen them in a while in the auditions I curate. But at least try it!)
      And finally, audition as much as you can. I promise if you submit one audition a day, you will get work. All the best to you! And Happy Thanksgiving!!! 🚀
