  • Atmos Trainer - a training simulator to train operators without risk to pipelines or equipment.
Inadequate training of control personnel compounded the damage caused by a number of pipeline accidents. US federal regulations require pipeline companies to document that pipeline operators are adequately trained to recognize and react to abnormal operating conditions. Regulators around the world follow this lead. API 1168 and API 1175 expect a record of pipeline operator training and continuous improvement. It is difficult to expose operators to abnormal operating conditions if they are only trained on real pipelines. A pipeline operator is asked to control different pipelines on average every 3 years, making
    ‘hands-on’ training alone inadequate.
Atmos Trainer combines the Atmos SIM hydraulic simulator, a SCADA user interface, and a sophisticated operator scoring and qualification module to generate a fully integrated pipeline training environment. The experience is as realistic as operating a real pipeline.
    Main features:
Options ranging from generic to custom SCADA HMI’s
High fidelity trainers are detailed replicas of specific pipelines, equipment, and control systems, and tuned to behave as realistically as the real life system
Life-like replication of normal or abnormal operating conditions
Full visual logic control block configuration for P&ID and Ideal Controls, shutdown keys, interlocks, and permission to operate
Simulates external systems such as fire,
or seismic activity monitors with simple to configure advance logic block controls
Easily load real operational states from the Atmos SIM online model
The generic trainers have elevation profiles to train operators on ‘packing’ or ‘unpacking’ operations with potential scenarios for slack conditions
Comprehensive trending tools for data and operation analysis
Interacts with other Atmos modules; Leak Detection, Batch and Pig Tracking, and Atmos Optimizer
Training sessions can be ‘Monitored’: scheduled sessions with an instructor present to monitor the training, and ‘Self’: sessions start from the operator’s initiative to ‘Practice’ any normal or unexpected operation
Atmos engineers work with the appropriate personnel to create an academic program ensuring operators are trained on key operations, and are ready to react when there is a real emergency
    Operator Scoring and Qualification Module:
    Documents controller testing and qualifications
Maintains records of each operator’s training history and performance improvements in accordance with regulatory requirements and API recommended practices 1168 and 1175
