Next month 5th to 7th will be MotoGP preseason test. Sepang circuit, after that they will go to Chang circuit. Free entrance if you want to go. Recommended to bring earplugs or anything to cover your ears.
Here’s some tips: Chinese New Year season is coming, Penang will be packed with people who are going back to their hometown. After that, end of February will be the beginning of Ramadhan, where people will start fasting. And rush hour traffic will change due to people getting home earlier to break their fast. Also, there will be a lot of Ramadhan bazar everywhere. might be a good time for interview. Maybe not a good time to be in Borneo. It will last for the whole month and by the end of March, comes Hari Raya.
Staying in Taiping Perak is relatively cheap. Lots of places to highlight eg Lake Gardens, Bukit Larut hiking, Commonwealth war graves, the fishing village of Kuala Sepetang with the seafood, sea eagles feeding , mangrove swamp walkway, charcoal kilns (very rare in the world), firefly colony, dolphin spotting etc
@@ka-loktan7940 I saw signboards about it when I last visited a couple of years ago. I just Googled it and 'Kuala sepetang dolphin tour' and several companies names came up with their contact details. You may do that yourself and get in touch with them.
It's good for you to explore and discover the best choice to live in Malaysia, The weather in most of the SEA countries is unpredictable lately.. All the best mate 👍
We suggest you go to (Cameron Highlands) Tourists in Cameron Highlands can expect a peaceful community with a laid back outlook of life. There are plenty of facilities and amenities expected of a modern town, including banks, clinics, restaurants, even a shopping mall (Cameron Square). Walking around is mostly safe at day or night, but you should always keep your valuables in a safe place and not leave them lying around.
Yes. You should head to the Northern region like Penang, Kedah & Perlis. KL is next to East coast only covered by the Titiwangsa mountain range. Monsun might have an effect here but not as bad as in Pahang, Terengganu & Kelantan.
Hi Ben, I think the holiday season is over and most tourists have returned back to their home countries. I suggest that you change strategy now. Instead of interviewing tourists, why don't you explore opportunities to promote Malaysia's educational institutions to the world. Malaysia has so many universities like UM, UPM, UITM, UKM, UTM, USM and others. They are all competing to get foreign students. You can do all the walking in their campuses to capture the surroundings. Most of the campuses are quite scenic to videotape. I don't know how to proceed on this, perhaps you can check out with your contacts in the Tourism Board.
Certainly a good idea. In the early 2010s I met and spoke to a few international students attending a private Al Bukhari University in Alor Star (Kedah state). Just meeting people and asking them about their experiences. I'm not a blogger or a TH-camr, just someone trying to interact with others. The big challenge when it comes to Malaysian's universities is accessibility. They are usually gated with security guard. Universities in the U.S. are open to the community (members of the public). Others are always welcome to walk around campus or even enter their buildings.
Malaysia government already did a good job to make Malaysian Chinese and Indians lesser than foreign students in our public universities. NEP is not just helping bumi, but foreigners as well.
Change of scenery - even temporarily - is a healthy thing. Discovering (or revisiting) a place for a while before returning back to your stomping grounds can be a great way to reset yourself. Wherever you end up Ben, I'll keep watching. 😊
Kudos, Ben... wow, you really know how to get around places in Malaysia super well... yes, it's the right choice to revisit Penang during this festive season. Welcome back. 😅
We appreciate your intelligence in choosing the wonderful locations. By following you, we find that all the locations are really more than wonderful. Well done
You should try Klang, Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Petaling Jaya Putrajaya… alot of place man. Dont limit yourself. The way you talk when it comes to locals as if ur limiting yourself… make it raw and realistic man… that would be fantabulous. Go to the local nightmarkets, the local markets. They might be shy but at least u can get the real glimpse of the real Malaysia.
East Malaysia is not one. Sabah wants independence from Malaysia, just like Bangladesh wanted independence from Pakistan. Sabah can be Islamic Republic of Sulustan as Malaysia Agreement positions for a “royal Sulu republic” with Sultan Jamalulail Kiram III as the first royal president.
Considered Port Dickson, or Port Klang (Bagan)? Sorry to hear about the crap condo, but really glad and thankful that you kept your peace- it's their issue and if I were in your place, I'd just leave too... bad vibes are always a good, sure sign to find a better place, with people who genuinely appreciate your stay with them. Thanks for this post, Ben... ever better times to come for you 💮 Godspeed 💞
Hi Ben, hope you’re well. You could try interviewing at Petaling Street or Dataran Merdeka. That’s what I can think about atm. Chinese New Year 🧧 (CNY) is around the corner, could be opportunities for your vlog content or finding out from Chinese Malaysians what is CNY really about. Since you’re well connected with the tourism ministry now. I wouldn’t miss out on potential networking opportunities, if you hadn’t done so. Specifically, interviews/ vlogs regarding local cultural communities, spotlight stories of people, or UNESCO heritage sites. The world is your oyster, mate. All the best! 🎉
Why don't you look into the digital nomad visa and stay there long term? My wife and I are planning on doing that in about five years. We've been living Vietnam for 10 years. We're headed over to stay in the USA to spend a couple of years living near my parents while they are still young enough to do some traveling. I've been to KL 10 or 12 times. I've been all over Asia. Nothing beats KL for me. Really good mix of Asian and Western culture, whilst still being quite affordable.
Ben, I will in Langkawi for 3 weeks in January-February. If you are around I can drive you around. BTW, there is a Firefly flight from Penang to Langkawi
Hi! Sunway University student here 👋. We have a lot of different international students at Sunway that are 100% open to interviews, so I would recommend going to here, our community would love to give you a little tour over the Sunway City and Sunway University, I am sure you would be able to make lots of content here :)
Try going to University Malaya. You'll get many opportunities to interview locals and also enjoy the vast greenery. It's a really beautiful university. There's a few cafes for students. You can walk around from one faculty to another, watch students play basketball or football on the fields even see them kayak on the lake. A word of caution though, the walking might be tiring as it might cover some distances unless you want to focus on one spot like the place where the basketball, football and and leisure activities are located. Better if you take public transportation like the buses that go through the whole campus. Some bus stops are also located near some cafes where you can rest, have a meal and drink and recharge. To go there, you just need to take an LRT that goes to the Kelana Jaya line. Get down at the University LRT station and take bus no.789 that goes straight to the University. Hope you have a great time. Enjoy!
Given the investment and change going on in Johor Baru it might be super cool for you to spend some time there and get some interviews done - totally different from your plans but give it some thought ! should be getting some international interest too 👍 All the best though and enjoy ! I'm the same that I need some time out of KL and enjoy my getaways back to Kelantan for that kampung vibe
Try the business class train ride to Penang. It's like 10 dollars. Haven't been raining much in Penang. Good for walks. I'd recommend to stay in Penang for Chinese New Year. It'd be an interesting experience, especially the 8th day with prayers everywhere and fire works past midnight. Areas around Taylors or Sunway would have more students for your interviews, I think. Eww to water fountains. Plenty of places to stay in Malaysia, no reason to go back to that one with the horrible experience.
Penang is going to be a best spot for you. If you like to have a fresh and cool weather you can go up to Penang Hill or Waterfall Park. If you like to have a seaside you can go Batu Ferringhi (tourists spot with many hotels along the beach, daily night markets about 1.5km long from 6.30pm-11pm), Gurney Drive or Esplanade. Since you have been in KL for quite sometimes I believes Penang food will impress you more on flavors. If you like to see more foreigners you can go either near Penang Road area or Batu Ferringhi town, night time got a lot of bistros and bars for you to chillout. Please bear in mind during Chinese New Year Penang is quite and many shops doesn't open except Mc Donald's,KFC, Pizza Hut and Mamak Stall.
Yup indeed holiday season is over Ben! It’s the beginning of the NY so most tourists have returned back to their home countries of course. Chinese NY is coming soon so you were right about travelling to Penang 😊 how long will you be in Malaysia for? Unfortunately not going home this year as went home last year! Hopefully home next year so if you need a tour guide around KK do let me know 😅 you are welcome indeed 👌 cheers 🍻
It's quite common to see less tourist in KL in January as many of them return back to their respective country after their Christmas and New Year holiday is over. Those tourist who you see around now are those not travelling during peak period of holiday season. Go to popular departmental stores near private universities outside KL Sunway Pyramid which has crowds from Taylor's University, Sunway University and Inti University College; or KL East Mall / Setapak Sentral / Melawati Mall which have crowds from International Ismaic University, TAR College. But timing is also important as usually I notice they hang out in the evening or during weekend
if youre gonna go Penang early Jan, i would suggest staying there until after Chinese New Year. Coming back to KL is going to be very quiet during CNY cuz everyone will travel outstation, especially to Penang. So if youre already there then stay and enjoy.
I've been in George Town for about a week (just visiting), and even though the weather forecast predicted rain every day, I've been getting sunny days since I arrived. I was in Kuala Lumpur last week, and the weather there was indeed bad. This is my first time in Malaysia.... leaving for Bangkok on Saturday.
Chinese New Year is around the corner. So, there will be many festive celebrations later this month. Maybe you could do a bit of research of our festivals and celebrations. Each state celebrates a bit differently too. You can film these festivals including their decorations, food and introduce to foreigners.
Hey Ben, are you open to interview/ do a podcast with a fan? I'm a Malaysian that has lived in the UK now for the past 8 years and I'm back for CNY. As for interview spot recommendations, I'd recommend Taman Melawati. There are many well educated folks there.
Hi Ben. Kedah would be a good choice now. the weather there now is less rain compared to KL. many places of interest there: Tanjung Rhu beach, Ruman Tok Su (Tok Su house; Malay traditional home), Muzium padi, Mahathir Mohammad birthplace house, Merdeka House, Balai Besar, Balai Nobat, Sultan Abdul Halim Gallery, Kedah State Museum.
Working people usually clear their leaves end of year. Some of them keep their leaves as they might want to offset their leaves if they manage to get a new job. That is why it's so dead in January everywhere.
If you want talk to local or international students or even expatriates, Sunway Monash University is the place. You can even ask permission to interview the lecturers who mostly comprise of internationals and the staff. Good luck!
I recommend that you go to some of the other states now and interview some more Malaysian people , places like Penang, Cameron Highlands, Genting Highlands , And some of the other well known tourist locations. There should be plenty of English speakers in these places Spend some more time In East Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah have lots to offer. Show some more of the local culture too I live in Sarawak, I speak English and there are plenty of English speakers , and fantastic places to visit and a great mix of culture
Go to Sabah- Swak on the month of mid May - early June. Harvest festival in Borneo. Maybe you could go to Kalimantan after kuching . I would love to hear more on Kalimantan.
I told you this from the beginning. KL is just another New York (to you) or a San Francisco (to me). If we wanted such an urban jungle (LT or ST), we would have just stayed, right? Forget Langkawi. Waste of time. Head to Penang (Island). Not that you care, but I just picked up my keys to my seaside condo there. Penang is it for me. Not too big, not too small. Good luck!I
I m from Penang but been living in KL 16 yrs now…KL is in d Klang valley n trust me, most of d time I feel it’s cooler here compared to Penang as it’s an island n humidity is high, coolest month there usually is December but weather nowadays is kinda topsy turvy but wherever u go in South East Asia will be similar weather pattern unless u stay in d mountains lol. Maybe Malaysia is unsuitable for u added d stress u experienced lately, good luck with finding a perfect place dat suits u in south east Asia with a budget haha!
Malaysia is allowed tourist to rent and ride motorbike for short term / during their visit. No need international license. There are many tourists renting it especially areas like Langkawi, Penang, KK etc...May be not KL because public transport is quite efficient.
What about shifting the vantage point of interviewing locals about their perspective of tourist? :) you probably get better around suburbs in weekend (like Subang, PJ, etc) vs KL (when people are working).
Ben could u also do some vids about Thailand and Bali? I think it would really be interesting for Malaysians cos it’s so near and if we wanna go for holiday then we’ll k ow where to go. Thanks!
Hi bro. hope you having good time in Malaysia. Here i need to give you some info or idea where to visit. maybe you can go to the place call Taiping in Perak state. That place actually the fist Capital of Malaysia before changed to KL. so many thing is started there such as first railway station in Malaysia. Great mountain, great lake garden, great food, great people.
Thanks for your honesty about Malaysia, yes local are to busy working daily, event during weekend, everyone struggling to keep survive and pay rent and tax , everything would not be the same before pandemic
Staying in Penang (or any where else than KL) would be a good idea during CNY, for having interview with Malaysian ~ As Many Malaysia who are not origin from KL will back to their hometown during Chinese New Year. CNY Public Holidat 2025 : 29/1 ~ 30/1, which alots people will be taking leave from 27/1~31/1. It is a really good idea to experience chinese new year in Malaysia (awesome decoration in most of the Bigger mall like 1U, Pavilion KL, Sunway Pyrahmid)
monsoon ends by chinese new yar which is 29-30 Jan, which i advise u to be in kl, u can go to penang for now for 10 - 14 days, langkawi best place cenang beach
I hear you, i'm a city girl, however, i'm conflicted (I love animals/nature more than people) so why on earth would I travel/live in a beautiful country like Malaysia and not experience & try real tranquility nature (my) new home. give it a go. Peace
Come to Perlis. The air is nice and cool. The most relaxing state in Malaysia. The people are very friendly and the living cost is the lowest . Come and feel yourself.
Well, as you head North into Thailand, it's dry season! Although, you may not want to go to Thailand! Most of SE Asia north of Malaysia is largely dry at this time of year, if things are too dodgy with weather in Malay....Just a thought! Peace!
Nature filled? An easy but beautiful place is at temurun waterfall, it is near tengkorak i beach. It is easy to get to from chenang but you would be awarded with a breath taking waterfall. You can you tube it. Some has gone there. Another place i would advice would be at Lang tengah island. It is remote and more pristine waters
Is Penang really West of KL? Maybe a little, but mostly North. Yes, give Penang a try. Georgetown is a very nice city. A lot to explore, but not as many airconditioned malls.😁🥵 Spend a month in Penang and a month in KK. Also, consider that Chinese New Year is January 29, so lots of traveling locals, or position yourself where there are great celebrations! All trains and planes may be fully booked.
Malaysia is a small country, and it sits in the Tropic. So you need to get used to its weather, which is if it's not hot, it's rainy. Almost anywhere you go, the weather is the same. If you can't bear the heat, or the torrentail rain, then stay indoors until the weather improves.

In East Malaysia, Sarawak and Sabah have lots to offer.
Show some more of the local culture too
I live in Sarawak, I speak English and there are plenty of English speakers , and fantastic places to visit and a great mix of culture
Good luck!I
in the south of Malaysia, Johor is now experiencing a mild winter, you can feel it
I m from Penang but been living in KL 16 yrs now…KL is in d Klang valley n trust me, most of d time I feel it’s cooler here compared to Penang as it’s an island n humidity is high, coolest month there usually is December but weather nowadays is kinda topsy turvy but wherever u go in South East Asia will be similar weather pattern unless u stay in d mountains lol. Maybe Malaysia is unsuitable for u added d stress u experienced lately, good luck with finding a perfect place dat suits u in south east Asia with a budget haha!
After fully watching this video, i think your next go to is the Penang island. Looking forward your next video
Malaysia is allowed tourist to rent and ride motorbike for short term / during their visit. No need international license. There are many tourists renting it especially areas like Langkawi, Penang, KK etc...May be not KL because public transport is quite efficient.
Interesting idea on the weather, though!
The primary foreign tourists season in Malaysia is December - February. The secondary season is July - September.
Penang also hot... 😅
I suggest to go to Sabah kota kinabaru, a place called Kudasang is cooling, very nice greenery and nature.
Sabah will be interesting to explore 😅
Just try out stay in redang island or rawa island as a castway, very cool experience ...
What about shifting the vantage point of interviewing locals about their perspective of tourist? :) you probably get better around suburbs in weekend (like Subang, PJ, etc) vs KL (when people are working).
I would suggest going to ipoh city. The history of that place is amazing.
Sunway Pyramid in Petaling Jaya.
Central Market in Petaling Street
Go brother
Staying in Penang (or any where else than KL) would be a good idea during CNY, for having interview with Malaysian ~
As Many Malaysia who are not origin from KL will back to their hometown during Chinese New Year.
Yes just go with the tourism board of Sabah. Don't be greedy and accept what they give you. Take it step by step bro.
With a travel guide you'll get to places where you won't normally visit. Think of it as much more content for your videos to generate revenue!
Right, as the saying goes, beggars can’t be choosers.
Yah in the northern region like Penang and up north to perlis is likely sunny and not much rain as if in southern part currently
ya bro ben .. come to Sabah .. visit Tambunan a rural area also known as switzerland of the east :) ..
monsoon ends by chinese new yar which is 29-30 Jan, which i advise u to be in kl, u can go to penang for now for 10 - 14 days, langkawi best place cenang beach
Very nice looking city. Clean and modern looking
Ben, u wanna see phenomenal things at klcc, go there on the 1st day of Chinese new year.
bangi, putrajaya ,kajang, gombak, kepong, cheras, bukit jalil, sunway, subang, check these areas with locals
Go to Langkawi, take a short boat to Koh Lipe Thailand. They call it the maldives of Thailand.
Probably not a good idea to talk about your negations with tourism board publicly.
You need to go to Johore or Ipoh or Kuala Kangsar.. if you are going to Langkawi.. stay at the capital Kuah..
Thought he say leaving malaysia😂 but have a great trip anywhere, safety 1st👍👍
Penang will be more jam and chaotic due to thr Chinese new year and thaipusam till mid February
I'm stuck in Portland OR right now I wish I had your problems!
Ben, u can rent an e-bike n move ard in Penang island 😇
Well, as you head North into Thailand, it's dry season! Although, you may not want to go to Thailand! Most of SE Asia north of Malaysia is largely dry at this time of year, if things are too dodgy with weather in Malay....Just a thought! Peace!
Nature filled? An easy but beautiful place is at temurun waterfall, it is near tengkorak i beach. It is easy to get to from chenang but you would be awarded with a breath taking waterfall. You can you tube it. Some has gone there. Another place i would advice would be at Lang tengah island. It is remote and more pristine waters
Better go to Sabah Sarawak during Keamatan Gawai festival at the end May June.
Come to Thailand again,I think it may be the ‘second home’ from many tourists
Is Penang really West of KL? Maybe a little, but mostly North. Yes, give Penang a try. Georgetown is a very nice city. A lot to explore, but not as many airconditioned malls.😁🥵 Spend a month in Penang and a month in KK.
Also, consider that Chinese New Year is January 29, so lots of traveling locals, or position yourself where there are great celebrations! All trains and planes may be fully booked.
Rains bring cooler air, fresh air... brings life .
You should go to Singapore...there's tons of people wanting to talk to you !
Welcome to Penang!
Malaysia is a small country, and it sits in the Tropic. So you need to get used to its weather, which is if it's not hot, it's rainy. Almost anywhere you go, the weather is the same. If you can't bear the heat, or the torrentail rain, then stay indoors until the weather improves.
To me January to April there will be less rain. Kuala Klawang in Negeri Sembilan has the least rain.
Slower pace! Come to east Malaysia. Sabah and sarawak..you gonna enjoy it!
