The original version is for wind instruments, drum and harpsichord. The piano version has many subtleties that the original version hasn't, but the original version has its own merits too, the drum and harpsichord adding greatly to the character and atmosphere. I would not say one version is better than the other, Poulenc's genius is equally present in both.

Danke. Die Klavierfassung ist der für Kammerensemble für meinen Geschmack überlegen. Gerade dann, wenn sie mit der Clarté Tharauds aufgeführt wird.
