20:38 um... also... unless I am mistaken, was there not another option besides Native American guy? The Village people had SIX members. I think the last member may have changed over the years, but there was a sixth member who was sometimes a soldier and sometimes a sailor. There was absolutely no reason to make someone don a headdress or ceremonial dress. I truly feel that Alexis was placed in a severe disadvantage by virtue of being given the Native American while not being an Indigenous person... there are some things which were simply off limits to her. It created an uneven playing field.

The thing I don’t understand about the season 7 Ball is how Pearl was declared safe and Katya was in the bottom. Katya had an original friend character unlike Pearl who was virtually a rip off of Violet’s and a bit of Kennedy’s and Katya had a much better second look. Pearl had no wig, didn’t accessorize beyond a bracelet, didn’t cinch or use body padding to create a silhouette, and her outfit didn’t even match the theme! She came out in a tube of fabric and looked like an ugly tube of Hello Kitty lipstick! At best the outfit looked like an 80 year old grandmother’s nightgown! How is that couture?! If any other queen did what Pearl, they’d all be ripped to shreds by the judges. Think about it. Adore rarely cinched and was always called out for it by Michelle and lots of queens were read for coming out in just a piece of fabric draped over their bodies.
I assume that Sanrio had some sway in who succeeded in that challenge due to it being a brand collaboration.
Kennedy and Katya's characters were more off book for "friend of Hello Kitty" than Pearl/Ginger/Violets from a branding standpoint.
@@OrganzaExtravaganzaPearl seriously got away with so many Drag Race runway sins with her Hello Kitty look that I still don’t understand why she wasn’t in the Bottom. I don’t care *if* it’s a movie reference. There was absolutely no body shaping which is still frowned upon greatly by the judges even in the most recent seasons, no hair underneath the hood which is something RuPaul and Michelle both hate unless you’re a bald queen which Pearl isn’t, and she didn’t follow instructions and made something that doesn’t look couture at all and we all saw what happened with Kori not making an outfit that was Monopoly eleganza.
1:59 question... does anyone know, in the first ball, is they had to make all three looks? If they didn't know what color they were going to be assigned, they couldn't have brought the looks... or, being season one and largely local to the filming area, were they just going home at night and didn't have a set amount of drag with them?
I just don't know how they pulled off having the correct color stories for all three looks when colors were not assigned.

I actually agree with most of what you said but I will die on the hill that early balls are one of the greatest things to happen to drag race 🙊
